As well as my turbo Sapporo (link here - retrorides.proboards86.com/index.cgi?board=readersrides&action=display&thread=1187528484 ), I have a 1982 Corolla SE 1.6 two door liftback which is an ongoing project. I acquired it in 2005 off a bunch of kids who were using it as a paddock racer. Take one perfectly good elderly owner Corolla, proceed to rip out and bin the interior, paint the outside with various colours of housepaint, rip off the air filters housing and continue to race around in a paddock, slide into fences/ditches etc After I acquired it I decided to paint it matte black just to make it one colour on the cheap: And tinted the windows, also trial fitting my 16x7" BBS wheels: At this stage I also bought a 2T-GEU with intentions to rebuild it and drop it in: Original 2T-B pushrod twin carb engine: After its Warrant Of Fitness (MOT) ran out I started sanding back panel by panel repairing all the dents, and rust which I kept finding and the worst of the lot Some months had gone by, and after moving to a new place I somewhat lost interest in it (about this time I purchased the Sapporo), until one day I started toying around with what colour to paint it - after trying a few coats of white on the front guards I decided it will do: Couple coats later on the rest of the car: I recently picked up some factory GX71 Cressida rims, which incidentally are the same as AE86 'black edition' rims. These are the same rims as on Billy's GX71 Chaser. So this is where it stands at the moment, hopefully within the next month I can finish off the paint and get it back together and back on the road.

Nice recovery! Coming along nicely now, the top photos didn't fill me with much hope but it certainly got better when I scrolled down!

I'm planning on selling my standard rims under the 'black edition' guise when i'm done with them ;D They are the same, just need to be gold ;D Nice TE and good boy for rescuing it! I do love a white yota

Yeah I am contemplating painting them gold, but I don't know if they will suit a white car. Another idea I was thinking was spraying them black, and then sanding back the front surfaces so the spokes and rim lip are polished.

We got the 'T-18' version here in Oz, there are a few modified ones getting around now since AE86 etc prices have gone mental.

whoa took me a while to find this thread again uhmm I ended up selling my 2T-GEU last year as it was in bits and was going to be too costly to rebuild, so instead I found a running 2T-G on twin side draft carbs instead - that way it would be a completely drop in, no need to worry about EFI hopefully this should restore my enthusiasm for this rust heap

Nah I got up to where it's at in the last pics, the Eterna is stealing all my attention (and so it rightly should!)
But once I get back into full time work and earning proper money I should be able to get stuck into it (currently a poor student, but only for another couple weeks)

Haha yeah I have an addiction Anyway went to pick up the engine yesterday (my mate got the gearbox). Good news is that it looks to have been rebuilt at some stage (new frost plugs, water pump etc, carbs are super clean inside), but bad news is that it's a very late model 2T-GEU so it will have the lowest compression of them all - 8.3:1 which is shocking for an N/A engine haha. Not too bad with its injection system but with carbs it's going to be interesting to see what it's like. It came with a spare block missing pistons but it looks toast anyway, as well as a spare '260' head. The headers which were on it are total rubbish, I'm definitely going to find some better ones. I gave it a good clean up with turps and a dishwashing brush and parked it between my other two prized possessions

This is truly its most lightweight version - you've really stripped the bodywork back here!!

haha yup, did some massive weight reduction there thankfully toyota thought people may want to do this so they made the body rust so quick that there wasn't much to strip in the end
