heres the link to my restoration page on the mk1 website (which you might find easier to read as the pictures appear on the page, as opposed to clicking all of the links)

but heres a basic rundown of the story and some pictures to explain whats been going on over the last year.
this is how it started...
Then this..
then this...
arriving back home...
semi assembled:
my favourite shot
Finished article:
to get to this point id spent well over 4 thousand quid, close to 5. replacing all the nuts and bolts and screws, refurbing and repainting nearly everything, basically complete overhaul.
And theeeeeeeeeen I was driving the mk1 home one night, pootling along when the engine caught on fire, melted everything in the engine bay, blistered up most of the front end, fire brigade smashed in both window, dents to the bodywork, whole inside of car got sprayed with hose, basically it was ruined totally.
I delcared every last modification and pay an extorsionate rate of fully comprehensive insurance at 18 in my own name, without even looking at it because my car is over 10 years old and has been in a fire accident it is automatically a write-off, completely defeats the point of being honest. you wonder why people go without insurance?
here are some pics of the damage....
gutting to say the least....
so basically heres the situation with my car, I got the body restored at Tim Philips 'Timskis' place (Project VW) when the car was originally done, and through that, did a bit of work for tim here and there, helping him out with the mk1s, as well as him regularly helping me with bits and bobs.
Because of this, I know Tim pretty well now, and he thought that my car was very unsual to come from someone my age, because of the obscene costs, the retro look instead of rudeboy, and basically the passion that went into it to produce a car that was nice to drive and look at.
Now that my car has black added to the colour scheme, Tim has offered me a complete in and out and engine bay respray, and then an oven bake to finish it off, as well as helping me out with numerous parts, because my funds are literally nil, and he wants to see this car back on the road, as he sees it as unfair for someone my age to spend that much money and sweat into a project only for it all to be gone in an instant.
I'm going to be covering this rebuild pretty extensively hopefully, ive been doing a bit more camera work than on the last one so far, and just want to convey how much of a nice guy Tim is, to show off his work and generosity. I seriously reccomend his work due to his love of retro cars.
Hopefully it will show you all not just a nice car again at the end, but something that it bigger and better in every way, that has come from some hard graft, tim puts alot of effort and is very pedantic about his work, which is a good thing because it results in a fantastic finish. and ill add the car and attention it needs too.
the boring work so far, stripping of everything:
barren
leftover mess from engine/dash
slightly more bare
new a few weeks ago...
melted plastic everywhere...
the inferno epicentre.
and now:
the mess is growing:
more progress:
Getting the crane ready:
Hauling it out:
The leftover mess:
After a bit of jizer and a pressure wash, just to clean the worst off for now, ill properly steam clean it soon.
and the comleted floorpans:
and just some old pics I found when it was back from fresh paint, made me laugh, and the thought of doing it ALL over again, oh well thats olf cars I spose, ill never be a rich man.
thats as far as ive got so far, ill update with any more progress soon, its all very hard work...
hope u enjoy reading the mammoth amount of info
any comments appreciated
thanks very much
