	engine bay is finally painted, did it with satin hammertie to to keep the grease from showing up too bad, and to eliminate any rust that hadnt been treated with the por 15. ive still got to cut the old left engine mount off and get another one welded on but this is how it stands for now, also a few areas I'm gna rub down and go over again cos of runs hopefully something will go back onto it soon Josh

	ok, so finally got round to doing the inside, basically just to coat over the primer and make it all nice and fresh in there, again finish isnt that great, but the bits you will be able to see are already sprayed i.e. boot area, or are going to be sprayed like the pillars inside. took apart another 1.1 mk1 for parts, took the loom, dash, heater matrix etc etc, also almost took engine out of the mk2 today, got the front mount off, all cables and wires and pipes, exhaust, gear linkage etc disconnected so its just the driveshafts and 2 engine mounts to come off and i can whip it out. hopefully will get it out one evening this week got a car cover for it so it can be protected from the elements until it is finished.... cant think of anything else to say so ill leave it there, bit more progress soon. Any comments appreciated Josh

	been able to start work on the golf again, now that I'm at home, managed to strip all of the inner wings and door posts, por15 and primer them, then coat the whole wing with black stonechip also managed to ALMOST get the front antiroll bar on, painted all up with pinky red translucent polybushes (to match my purple steering rack ones, red and yellow wishbone mounts lol) on the last bolt however, i managed to snap it, but luckily it was the bracket for the wishbone and not the bolt that goes into the body, otherwise that would have been a REAL pain. i threw a coat of jizer over the engine today to try and read some of the numbers and figure out what the engine actually is, so ill put the pictures up and see if anyone knows, because it didnt seem clear to me...it says 1.8g2 on the rocker cover in a tippex pen, so I'm thinking the engine has been replaced at some point. once i know what it is, i can order a clutch for it, and give it a good clean up, I'm going to steam clean the whole lot, get a new carb gasket, belts, filters, oil, oh and new fuel lines! then ill just remove and paint a the components one by one, just give the block a light coat of oil because unless i spend alot of money... its all going to peel off anyway, so i thought id make it look smart, yet practical considering my budget and also bearing in mind that its only an engine and I'm not really that bothered if its not chromed up to the nines, id just like a nice clean working engine, because I'm not into car shows, lifting up bonnets all that much, i want a tidy runabout that looks retro, so theres only so far I'm going to go, however the engine does look really clean (probably becaue of the amount of grease all over it) so should turn out looking good, watch this space...most importantly of all I'm going to make sure there is no fuel leaks this time, and put two big fire extinguishers in the car! anyway, pics do the talking... you can see the brown patch where the fire has penetrated through... as you can see, quite a bit of pitting/surface rust in the next few photos, I'm glad i managed to catch in just in time... started some wiring.. so onto the nicely fresh clean inner wings...thank god thats one less place on the car covered with the dreaded waxoyl. stonechipped (looks weird in the flash light) now onto pics of the engine numbers....any help figuring out what it is? like ive said before... mainly the progress is hinging on the fact i don't have the money to buy the parts, so come easter/summer time it should start progressing faster, but hope u enjoy the read all the same how it stands for now, being guarded by the hilux.. 	ok, I'm back from uni for a week after my exams, as its marking week, and I'm back to earn some money...thought id do some work on the mk1 as well... picked up a set of red stripe gti seats like i used to have in it b4, because my friend jake is making his mk1 into a 16v stripped out racer, he kindly donated them to me...they were very wet and mouldy so... basically i plan on giving the itnerior a retrim as orange is a sod of a colour to match it with, it looks rubbish against grey so that eliminates using mk2 seats or the grey stripe gti ones, ive done some photoshops and didn't really like the look of it... heres a couple of photos i've found for inspiration of the vwvortex, i think I'm going to go for tartan as its more fitting with the older series 1 feel I'm aiming for, and i think it works nicely. I'm not sure what type of tartan I'm going to go for yet, the first picture looks really nice, but a bit pale, would get filthy...so i might go for something more like this... I'm going to make my own doorcards front and back out of MDF, and use a fine fabric/felt with a seam/stip of tartan through it, a bit similar to the first photo, but in the middle of the doorcard, not the top. also there will be two upright strips of tartan on the back seat, to replace where the red stripes once were, and then ill make a parcel shelf up of a decent bit of mdf or ply to replace the flimsy standard shelf, which will follow on from the upright stripes of the rear bench. all the remaining parts i.e the bolsters etc will be covered in a black material, pretty similar to standard, and I'm keeping the vinyl that wraps around the back of the driver and passenger seats, and stitching the new fabric onto this... heres my progress today: firstly i stripped down all the seats, they are pretty much held together with lengths of wire and little wire clips (the same clips i use at work for wire rabbit netting/fencing. so ill be putting it back together with one of those) i split the two halves of the seat, cut off all the clips and took the seats back down to the base, then sprayed it all with hammerite as they were really rusty, i also found some money, and a cigarette, with lots of dust and fluff underneath the seats. i'm probably not making myself very clear, but i thought it needed a nice interior to finish off the rest of the hard work, the clashing red interior was detracting from the hard work. i might try and get hold of some cloth , its all about 5 pound a metre so its worth buying a sample to see how it looks any good websites/places in the south east to go looking, what sort of blend/density do i need for seats i.e. poly cotton etc? might have an update soon...who knows, if anyone knows of any decent tartan/ideas that would work...feel free to post some pics. thanks for all the comments along the way JJ
