I prefer the 'before' pic! Wheels look barry and the new-font reg plates look wrong wrong wrong. Sorry! Me too! Indicators i can deal with, number plate i can't, nor for that matter the rims - the original rims would've looked better had they been polished - also shame you've lost the 'graphics' below the rubbing strip....

Not a bad looking car. The wheels I can live with though you may find the handling suffers a bit. A word of advice, polybush it! I polybushed my mk5 and it transformed the car!
The plates are a bad idea, doesn't look right and will also attract the wrong kind of attention. There the retro equivilant of the blue washer jet lights (unless the car there fitted to is pre-73).
Other than that one niggle, top motor! I really like the mk5 shape and in many ways prefer it too the more popular mk3 now.
Smiler.

I agree with the majority, wheels and plates spoil it, but then its your car so if you like it stuff us!

Volvo back as my main squeeze, more boost and some interior goodies on the way.

On the 'before' pic you can see that it's had new front wings.....probably why the striping's gone missing. Looks better without IMHO. Mk4/5's are difficult cars to modify, what works on a Mk3 looks like a tit on a stick on a post-76. Wheels will look better with a bit of slammage, I reckon. Whatever, it's better than that bloody Datsun!

I reckon the wheels will look great once you slam it As for the plates, black n silvers look good imho. Usually the plod would be all over you for em on a post '73, or is that just Devon + Cornwall c*ntstabulary having sod all better to do?

Ahhhh, the momories, I had a 1982 Cortina Pickup (P100) with a glassfibre canopy for a few years, still miss it to this day, traded on a new 1987 Toyota Corolla 1.6RS hatch.

I prefer the first pic as well, those massive rims do nothing for it at all.
Looks lovely and straight though.

The lack of those strips beneath the doors and those tall (15"'s?) undished wheels make your car look really high!
Not knockin your taste in modifying part's, but it's as plain as the nose on your face that they make your car look tall. Get some of the newly slammed pics up or this mob will tear you apart! (harsh crowd here or what!)

i disagree with all the unnecessary criticism in this thread. i know dave pretty well and i know the car well too-its a straight old girl (the car - not dave....unless its a thursday ;D) and surely as its his car its his decision on how its modded. the blokes proud of his car and wants to share his passion with you all i have 17" rimmage on my mk5 and i havent had such negativity....why is this car attracting such a reaction? looks good dave - fahook what others think!
|
|
I then wanted to start cleaning the interior as it stinks of wood (the material not the smell of a boner) best quote ever!

I totally agree with 'fahook what others think', its his car and he should defo mod it how he wants. Just not my cup of tea thats all.
Don't think anyones dissing the lad, he just asked for opinions, and he got some.

I love it! i am a big fan of modern wheels on an old motor so it gets a thumbs up from me! The plates will get you stopped by the old bill though...

wow, a varied variety of comments! at the end of the day there is a few cars being shown on here that i don't like or things that i would do differently but thats what a makes our hobby a great one in that we aren't all driving the same car, and we all get a kick out of doing things a little different to the next guy. i think you either like old skool cars/modern rims or like retro all the way. bit like in the early 90's when street machine kept banging on about "new wave", a vast majority didnt get it and they got slated huge amounts. i loved it tho and i think it stuck with me so i like my old cars with a modern lean. re brian, its about a 10000 times quicker than the datsun! i'll get a piccy of it up now its lowered i promise by tuesday.
