Hi Dom, Looks like you are making steady progress One thing, have you taken all the laquer off the alternator windings with the soda blasting? Don't want all the smoke leaking out Blower looks good too

Some more progress ! I picked up the front end from the blasters last night, and tbh for £40 it wasn't worth trying to clean them up by hand !, He said once I have done the strengthening, he will dust them over again just prior to paint for me as well so that's a bonus And as for the strengthening...... This is what all the rally and berg cup Kadetts have done as a matter of course I want to do similar but maybe extend the skid plate a bit more to add some mountings for the flat floor, there will also be some chassis strengthening plates too, basically the shell will be built to the DTV manual (Dealer team Vauxhall) so it will appeal to the rally boys as well in case I still want to sell it on again afterwards ? James I hope it's still ok ? But I hadn't thought of that ? Maybe I will have to strip it down after all ?!

Oh and blower is looking good but I am going to have to strip it as the rotors in this one have flaked, so I have another "spare" charger that I will strip the rotor set out of and build into this one. While its apart, I will machine some more bits off it to make it a bit lighter and just generally clean up the casting, I may also modify the back end to get a better air inlet tract too

Quiet in here again Have managed to source a set of GTE Anti rollbars, front and rear, complete with all the drop links and mountings. They should be on their way over from Germany as we speak. The front is the same dia as standard, but the ARB itself is cranked to give more sump clearance, which will save me making spacer blocks to acheive the same result. Should give me some room to fit the Dry sump pump as well. The Rear ARB is a "Nice to have", I`ll mount it and then I can have a play with it if needed ;D If I make one of the drop links Q/R then its an easy Grip/Drift or Wet/Dry adjustment Cheers for looking Dom

Hi Dom! Just been looking at this one again, more clean parts ready to meet the welder The Shellac that is used on the alternator is just like brittle paint, so you might find it needs new windings? Easy way to check would be a resistance check against the manufacturers specification? As for your supercharger, look at some of these pics and links - www.benzworld.org/forums/r170-slk-class/1516156-home-port-job-eaton-m62-s.htmlBlock up those silencer ports for your car NVH is not a concern:D Looks like the main concern is getting the edges of the exhaust port matched to the 120 degree rotor spacing. That and creating the minimum inlet resistance

Not pic worthy but progress nontheless I may have done a blinding deal on a new DC TIG welder too as I`ve decided its the process I really want to learn. Cheers Dom

Thanks for the vote of confidence Down there again today and got some more shelving set up which was good. Also had a look at the rear brakes which are still not sorted :-( It looks like the options are going to be Cossie rear calipers, on golf disc = machine half shaft down to suit disc bell Cossie rear calipers on Astra disc, bolt on fit with some funky brackets required Ap racing calipers won't fit without a custom disc, probably floating All because I want to use 13" wheels !! Got half the bonnet stripped and covered back up again with rattle can for now. And got the diff out of the axle to make sure it's all ok and so I can get the axle case blasted without worrying The Diff is mint, no play, perfect witness pattern on the teeth, just needs a clean and paint and it can go back together with fresh oil Cheers Dom

Cheers Matey ;D Been trying to get it organised since I brought it all down here over a year ago. I can actually see all the components I have now, and can see what still needs sorting too. I need to make some decisions and then I can get a load of stuff that I`m not going to use up for sale again. I still have about 3 different "Build Kits" for the car ? and that doesnt include engine spec choices N/A on Carbs N/A on Throttle bodies S/C with eaton M45 S/C with AMG Lysholm charger (I Think thats definately phase 2+ with Forged internals) I have a Type 9 Gearbox and new bellhousing. I have 2 different Billet steel flywheels, one for a 220mm uprated but std size clutch, which I have the clutch for too. 1 for a 71/4" race/rally type clutch which will be better for big power but I don't have a clutch as yet. I also have an Aisin Close ratio 6-speed Gearbox which has great ratios, but will need an adaptor plate to work and a clutch plate to suit the Aisin input shaft and either the "ford std type" clutch cover or the 71/4" AP type clutch So as you can see there are some decisions still to be made

Your insistance on the 13" wheels is great so I know you'll come up with an elegent solution, what was your reason for not using golf rear calipers again? was it the size? as they are a superlight alloy caliper with integral handbrake

Your insistance on the 13" wheels is great so I know you'll come up with an elegent solution, what was your reason for not using golf rear calipers again? was it the size? as they are a superlight alloy caliper with integral handbrake ;D I`d love to use the Golf rear calipers, but they wont fit under the wheels Its only the sliding section that is alloy on them but I agree they are nice. I even stripped the Cossie rear calipers and tried to use the Alloy slider on the Cossie mounting / pins which will fit ;D but Pads will become an issue. As for weight, I think there is only the weight of the pads between all-Iron Cossie caliper and Iron-Alloy Golf caliper !! which surprised me. I`d love to use the AP Calipers as they are just a lovely solution and super light but I cant see a way of doing that given the packaging constraints I have I think I am going to machine the halfshafts to suit Golf 239mm discs as that gives me the most options (I can still fit the Astra 240mm discs) and see where everything ends up

Well there are some benefits to getting "Middle aged" ;D My new toy has arrived and I`ll pick it up later !! This was kind of a Belated (Due to redundancy) 40th birthday present with a big contribution towards it by my wonderful Fiancee ;D I finally have a proper welder......... I got a stupid deal from my local welding suppliers on an R-tech 200A digital DC TIG welder complete with foot pedal ;D Cant wait to get it set up and have a play now ;D I was going to get a Portamig, but went with a nice TIG set instead. Its a skill I have always wanted to learn, and now I have some proper kit to do it, so its just down to me now ;D Extremely happy boy here
