Well I dropped off the DBW throttle pedal and my shrinker / stretcher at the weekend so Cain can carry on with it, but not sure how much more he'll be able to do at the moment as I have just been made redundant Hopefully I can get something sorted quickly so it doesn't impact the progress too much Really nice work Really curse word news on the job front

Sorry to hear the job news chap I remember when we attacked the sills on mine; one was neatly patched at the back end (usual Kadett / Chevette place) the other had several patches along it, all covered by cover sill stuck on with P40 Proper bodge

Mechanic's rule #1... If the car works, anything left on the floor after you finished wasn't needed in the first place

Sorry to hear the bad news - its a shame I'm not closer as I would happily lend a hand if I could. Cheers fella I do really appreciate that We'll have them parked up at a show somewhere, side by side , soon enough The wheels are turning job wise, but I suspect I won't be able to stay local, so I may well be back off to the midlands contracting again

Some pics from yesterday and today ;D New Sill on, including fixing the inner and mid sill panels too Back down on dollies and pushed into the corner again And the rear 1/4 patchwork coming together I`m gutted I`ve had to stop Cain on it now, as he was really cracking on with it ;D Hopefully I`ll get sorted out with a job soon enough and I can get the rest of the metalwork finished Cheers for looking Dom

Thanks fella ;D Hopefully Hollywood has found me a pair of wheel bearing kits in NZ which he is going to bring back home with him, so I can crack on and get the caliper mountings made in readiness.
I have scored some work for a few weeks with a friend who has a full Fabrication shop too, complete with mega laser cutter etc ;-) So with a bit of luck I should be able to get a few bits profiled and cut while I am here ? He has also said he is going to get me in the workshop with the boys for a few days intensive TIG training, he reckons once I crack it I won't want to go back to a Mig again ?
Hopefully some more proper updates soon Cheers Dom

Looking superb.
TiG welding is brilliant, if you have the patience and skill to get the gaps right nothing beats it for bodywork, you can stick the panels together without a filler rod, needing very little finishing.

Get that offer of tig teaching in for sure. I have just bought a very nice AC/DC tig and have much learning to do- i have not tigged for 18 years! Once I get good at it I think I will find it very useful indeed!
I'm sure you'll have no trouble finding work here and there Dom.

Great news on the job front, and as an added bonus it sounds like it will be really interesting!
Learning to TIG is big on my want list too however i cant afford a machine atm so its kinda pointless for now, i look forward to finding out how it goes.

But in other news, I should pick up my first bits from the soda blasters this weekend so I`m quite looking forward to seeing how they have come out Cheers Dom

Update time at last !! Well I dropped a few bits off at the sodablasters to see what the finish came out like and I went and collected them the other day. Before: Supercharger Alternator Starter motor Engine mounts And after Still not sure whether I'll just leave everything blasted or paint it all, but at least the soda gets everything clean but with no damage.

And the other day I had a day in the shed, so I stripped the front crossmember down. Basically I'm back down at caged again next week, and I wanted to do a complete front end strengthening kit as used on the works GTE cars so I thought I better get it stripped beforehand. All ready for the blasters Dropped all this off on my way home and should pick them up all done tonight Next there is some cad work to do and then I can get the strengthening plates all Laser cut and welded on next week. I'm really impressed with how light the standard stuff is too, so I'll be trying to stiffen the crossmember and wishbones without adding too much weight, I reckon you'd struggle to do tubular wishbones and a tubular crossmember as light as the standard stuff ??! Cheers for looking Dom

Good stuff dude, pulling my front cross member apart is on my to do list too! I will call you in the week Does that mean you'll be wanting a strengthening kit too ? I'm heading back down on the 2nd but I am only down there that week, so if you decide you want the cage bringing down, I need to know ASAP really as I'll have to get the van ready to come down in ? Let me know either way ? Cheers Dom

Interested to see what the strengthening kit is. I've seen quite a few cars with plated x-member and extra welding as well as plated upper and lower arms. What else do you get/do. Is it worth the extra weight??
