I got one of those build yourself kits, relatively simple to do but finding helper springs that worked properly was a bit of a pain in the ass and ended up using some from a mates spare golf coilovers (tip of the day ) Mine are wound down pretty much onto the bumpstops on my 13's so on yours to tuck the bigger wheels nicely it would still have plenty of travel! .... You're on 15's yeh?

Yep 15s with low profiles on the front. What kit did you use? Am I right in thinking you grind the spring cup off and weld on the threaded section in its place? don't suppose you have any pics? Love your capri dude, looks mean and the red is nice and different too

daveyboy i'll have a look through my pics i'm sure I have some somewhere of them but yeah as you said pretty simple to do (especially when you have a mate who does the welding...lol!) Mike D the cloudy lights must be a thing with Capri's! haha! I was so tempted to get the yellow tint colour but couldn't decide if it would suit it right so went dark instead.... I reckon with the gold bits of ur wheels a yellow headlight might just work nicely!

Cool cheers dude. You know what, Ive spent £30 on tint spray and its curse word up every time. I'm gonna buy some of that flyeyes stuff to do my tail lights red. Tempted to do my headlights yellow but not sure.. Anyways - yours looks class! How does it handle that low at the front?

Cool cheers dude. You know what, Ive spent £30 on tint spray and its broken up every time. I'm gonna buy some of that flyeyes stuff to do my tail lights red. Tempted to do my headlights yellow but not sure.. Anyways - yours looks class! How does it handle that low at the front? Yellow lights on a black car would look ace! U have mk2 lights on the back of yours yeh? It will go on simple because they are flat and be way easier to remove later on down the line than spray. I have some mk2 rears waiting to go on my car but I cant seem to get the lights to ever work when i try to put them on! haha I suck at electrics. I have quite a bit of neg camber now and I have to say it handles better than it ever has, feels nice and tight in the corners Have a bonus picture of my car...

Ah there you go Daveyboy thats a pic of the coilys. I got mine pre made like that from ebay and then took them all apart and started again because the welding was a bit rubbish and I didn't trust it. basically chop off the spring cups and grind it down nice and smooth, slip over the threaded tube and weld it on and boom ur ready to rock!

Right I need a bit of help now, My expansion tank boils over after I stop the engine if I've been stuck in a bit of traffic or have revved it hard just before turning off. I changed the thermostat and it looked a bit buggered when it came out but that hasn't seemed to cure anything, the cars not overheating as such because it boils over after the engine has stopped, never when i'm driving. I've been told the rad cap might be broken a bit and not holding pressure allowing it to boil in the top of the rad? So I was gonna replace the cap but they seem to all have different lbs rating and pressure to them will my old cap say what one I will need? (I'm at work atm so can't check)....and is it worth getting one of the decent caps like the stant ones they sell on Burton? ( www.burtonpower.com/product_main.aspx?home.aspx ) what exactly is better about them? Also does a Capri Laser have 8 or 9 inch rear drums? I think it's 9" but not completely sure?

That is a pretty huge rad actually! I will eventually need a new rad so that sounds like a good idea actually and will allow for a new engine in the future. Pipe work wouldn't be too bad i'm guessing just get some hose and cut to fit?
Hasn't made any funny noises...whats a hydrocarbon test?
How do the leccy fans work on ur rad, is it easy to fit an override switch on it as well?
P.S. Can you come and stick one of them 24v's in my car please...haha!

hydrocarbon test is a large turkey baster full of crystals. you suck up some of the coolant into it and they change colour if there's a trace of emissions in the coolant. it's a quick test to see if the head gasket has breached as if it has it could be pressurising your cooling system.
the noises which could possibly suggest water pump failure are like screeches, it's the bearing sticking inside it. if you've heard any noises like someone buggering a guinea pig it might be that.
I put a temperature switch on mine, its the little brown box near the washer bottle. there's a dial you can adjust to set what temp the fans come in at, but I also have a manual override on the dash where the old speaker knob used to be. I have to confess I had a leccy mechanic do that bit as I didnt want to risk it failing in traffic tho. best bit of money I ever spent.
i'm guessing the engine in yours is a pinto, which side of the car does the top rad go to?
and balls to fitting another 24v! i'm glad i did it, but i wouldn't do it again!

Ah right yeh I've heard of the crystal test thing! Defo no screeches so hopefully not the pump.
looking at the car from the front the top rad goes into the left of the rad.
At some point i'll be going 24v in mine, so please don't say it was hard work... haha!

it's got easier to do, mine was one of the first and i insisted on putting the cossie box in as well which made it a lot harder at the time.
there's a LOT more info out there about them now. it can be done. if you need any info feel free to ask.

been building it for over 12 years so not really. i've got a box of old disposable camera films from the bodywork resto nearly ten years ago somewhere, really must get them developed!
it's funny, although i've gone for a really factory look on mine i love the look you've gone for, reminds me of when i used to drive capris around in the 80s a bit. you've got the stance spot on too.
