Picked this wee beauty up this morning. Its about as basic and beige as you can get, and comes complete with a 1196cc pushrod motor that pushes out a stool softening 55bhp. It needs a bit of a tidy here and there, but is pretty solid. It survived the 90+ mile journey home ok, but only having 4 gears got old quick, may need a swap for a 5 speed. Big thanks go to Pogweasel for driving back and forth and guiding us around Biggleswade today. More pics and some possible potatochoppage when I'm not so tired.

Love it! Great find. My mate had one in orangey brown with matching brown interior as his first car. We spent lots of time hooning and cruising looking at girls in it. ;D Them were the days.... ;D ;D Not many of those left, what do you plan to do with it???

Nice one, probably safer bet than a Maestro too! I'm really really looking forward to seeing a mike-photoshop, come alive. PS, how lively is that engine? enough to have some fun? I know a good service worked wonders on me festa.

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

Cheers for the comments guys ;D I'm not sure on plans at the moment, my initial quick-slam idea has been thwarted by the pigtail springs, so that'll have to wait till pay day.. Hmm. Wheel-wise Astras are +49 offset, so some dish might be tricky. Wondered about rostyles (but not sure they'll fit), but couldnt go for too small a profile on the tyres as i'll only be able to do about 50mph... A 5 speed conversion will be looked into at some point. Definite immediate jobs are a quick tidy-up of the bodywork, and a damn good clean. The original steels will be refurbed, and I might rock the totally standard look till I can get some lowering springs. My photoshop idea so far (this will be constantly updated) looks like this; Not sure on the wood yet though, might drop that idea. Depends how lazy i feel. And an interior shot for extra beigeness; Reanimation: Its quick perky for a 1200, enough to keep me smiling anyway! Suspension is a bit roly-poly tho. Soon as it stops raining i'll probably give it a service anyway, and take some more pics.

Sounds great. once you got suspension sorted, it'll be ace! Wide wheels should work if you stick somewhere near 49 and not so mega wide tyres. Top, looks like a museum piece.

Good plans! I like it in its all-beige glory personally, rekon it would look pretty darn cool with the right wheels and a drop

I think the all-beige look will have to stay, i've got ideas in mind about what to do with it, but i'm going to try it first in case it looks cack. Lowering springs will be ordered this week (-80mm), then those little rust patches will be sorted out. Hopefully they'll not be too much trouble, i've had a good look over it and the metalwork is pretty solid, unfortunately beige shows up rust a lot... Cleaned up the original wheels too, tempted to stick them back on... This is how they look now..

Cool! another mk1 1200. & 2 years older than mine too. My 1200 can be fun but you have to keep it working hard, it'll never be enough though. a cheap option is the 1300 s (75bhp) engine, it has loads more poke & will fit strait in. its tuneable too. & only £50 from all good scrappies ;D looking forward to the next update
