We've put a mk3 polo GT engine (3f) into a mk1 golf on twin 40's with a 276 cam, just needs setting up and it'll just nudge into 100bhp territory. It did a 17.4sec quarter mile at santa pod. Not bad considering it is really rich at the moment Funnily enough, I have a carby 1.3 in the garage from an '89 polo ranger, was thinking about doing something silly with that actually... Isn't the G40 bottom end mean't to be much tougher than the others ?! Hmm, I wonder if the mk4 16v head fits on it.......

Isn't the G40 bottom end mean't to be much tougher than the others ?! Hmm, I wonder if the mk4 16v head fits on it....... the ranger engine will be lower compression than a GT engine. I would recommend the following> GT bottom end mk2 coupe S head weber 32 carb or bike carbs 276 degree cam (or higher) late mk2 coupe S ignition system GT gearbox (short ratios) You'll have to weld the polo gearbox mount to the golf one if you are using the polo gearbox and if I remember correctly you have to change the gearchange linkage to a polo jobbie as well Yes, a G40 bottom end is stronger than the rest, it has webbing around the block to make it stronger. When my engine made 189bhp on the eaton charger, the crank, rods and pistons were all standard items!! There is a G40 engine in england bored out to 1341cc with forged pistons that runs 9:1 compression that makes 233bhp at 8k rpm!! That still uses standard rods and crank!!
