also an update. Put some 280zx wheels on it and drove to the RR08 show. Then put some dubble 40mm webers on it. Then the head cracked, and now it's waiting on a L20b head with bigger inletports and racy camshaft coming over from down under. So it'll be standing in the garage again for a while..

...do I hear some Rolf Harris on the car stereo? ;D what movie made you think that? The only thing that's coming near the sound of Rolf Harris is Thomas who's thinking he is a bubble 40mm Weber..

Wow.. It has been nearly 3 years since my last update! And the most shocking thing is that there is not a lot to update! After a while I got the Aussie L20b head with lumpy camshaft and polished intake and eaxaust ports. When Thomas and I did the head swap and started the car, it had no oilpressure. The oilstrainer seemed to be blocked. But you have to lift the engine to get the sump out and that wasn't possible in my little garage. After a while Thomas and I decided to tow the car to the barn where the Doctor's Corolla is becoming a car again.. That's about 20 miles from my home. The next story started last Friday. Last Friday in the afternoon, Thomas and me have towed the Blooper to the shed where more slow projects are. There we could lift the engine a bit so we can take the sump off and pull the oil strainer out. Was it much needed? Uhm, I think so... A clean couple of metal pieces.. Now I can post a movie of starting the car, but this topic is full of these clips and they all sound the same and end the same. Cranking, cranking, cranking, not fireing, fiddleing at the ignitor, cranking cranking cranking, not fireing, fiddleing at the ignitor, cranking cranking cranking, not fireing, fiddleing at the ignitor, crank.. vrop vrop vrop burble burble VROOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRR!!And we have oilpressure again! And then the radiator is draining. Then we saw a image that we all have seen before at this car. Radiator empty, sump full again. Draining the sump and have a glass of milk.. But, there was none of the usual swearing, but a decent 'curse word' rolled off my tongue. Options: Burn the f*cker down! Wait, there are cars in the shed that may not be burned (yet) and there is a pair of shoe in the back of my car so that would be a shame.. Replacing the leaking gasket? No, that would be a pain in the to fiddle that one out with the engine in the car. It's the waterpump gasket. Let's pull out the engine completely! Order a complete engine gasket kit and rebuild the whole curse word engine and replace all the gaskets in the engine.. Damn, look how high it is with no engine in! Towing, Dennismo style! Till next year, with another update! ;D

Sheesh That really does look like milk!!! Flush that engine good with several oil changes in short succession with no load on the engine or you may damage bearings!

Thanks! I'm waiting for a email from Datman so I can order a engine gasket set.. I hope this rebuild won't take as long as my last update. It has really tested my patience. I've taught a lot about selling it, but something keeps me from selling it..

In the meantime, stripping down the engine Now only the head and the sump needs to be removed, then there is only a bare block left. For now, the parts that need to be replaced are: Gaskets All of the exhaustmanifoldstuds. ( they are all bended ) Thermostat (looks like a dead turtle, all green and mushy) The waterpump is deteriorating as you can see in the picture. Next up: Take off the sump and head, order the new stuff and maybe give the engine it's original colors back..

It's stupid how slow I am with updating this topic. The Engine rebuild went like a dream! The waterpump and gaskets from Datman arrived pretty quikly, the whole engine got cleaned up, all new gaskets. so we started the engine, it fired up pretty quik and after a minute, the radiator was empty and the sump again full with milk. The only thing that is not replaced now is the engine block. Try to find a decent block in the Netherlands, and you'll be searching till hell freezes over (with a summer like this years, I may not be far of from finding one ) But, stuff the L18 crapbox and give me some raw power! ;D So I decided to put in a 140bhp ca18et from a Silvia S12 in the bluebird. ;D To let you al know that I'm not completely wasting my time on hillclimbing with the Starlet, here's a small update on my Bluebird. From the start of the ca18 conversion. Parked the car in the new shed. Found the S12 crossmember and engine. Rip out the old and shiny L18. Put in the crossmember and gearbox. (no pictures there ) Put in the engine. Things to do: Fix electrical loom. Fit altenator, starter and ignition coils. Fit radiator Fit dubble electric cooling fans Fit hoses Fit intercooler Modify brakeline. (hits the intake pipe) Fit fuel lines ( return line) Fit swirlpot Modify exhaust Modify gearbox crossmember. Make a longer throttle cable. The list will get bigger as I get along I'm affraid. Slowly getting there, but I don't have everyday time to work on the car, so it's no 2 month project this conversion. Be patient and you'll see an update when the time's ripe.

Hmm not often you see an ET going in lol. I've more or less decided to keep mine, probably treat it to a CA20E inlet plenum to go with the front mount.

This is a CA20E plenum. Unfortunately, unless you want to do some cutting and welding, the throttle body will be the wrong end for a RWD install. I used one on my T72 Turbo along with a CA18DE throttle body. It made a big improvement in responsiveness. It came on boost nearly 1000rpm earlier then stock.
