 aaaaaaaanyway, the escort gets picked up  bye bye escort! the mondeo gets picked up  bye bye bye mondeo! i get cracking under my friends caful supervision - i bleeding hate bodywork, and we get to this level of prep - brilliant i think - a coat of high build, and we are home dry   yeah, got it in the booth for the last coat of primer, it starts cracking....quite bad. carl (bodyshop guy) asks 'what sort of primer did you use for prep?' i grab a can 'oh....acyrilic' he replies 'yep, itll all have to come off, start again' so, he leaves me the keys to the workshop and i start stripping all the paint off, the darkness of the pictures is evidence to the fact i was there until about 9 tonight   ah well, stat again tomoro, should have it done by tuesday at the very latest  |

Was it a reaction between your hi-build and his normal primer that caused it to crack?

yeah exactly that, the acrylic primer is basically soft and cheapo primer, whereas 2 pack primer is the mack daddy.
but me knowing nothing about bodywork didnt know any of this, which is why i have a big reluctance to do any bodywork as i always cock it up ;D
bodywork is an art, faffing with hengines just takes a bit of working out

Hopefully they'll stand up okay with the number of coats I've put on! |

used to be 4" at the front and 3" at the rear, but now its 4" at the front and standard height at the rear with 205/60/13's on which are oversized ;D ;D oh - progress - engines had a coat of stone chip - no reaction and a coat of 2k primer going on now - but i wasnt needed anymore so left them to it. ive been roped into prepping (with careful supervision) the whol;e of the car now, which i didnt want to but it means ill be getting an almost free respray  and a lesson in bodyshoppery too forgot the camera so no pics for todays antics, tomorow ill be building the engine up ready for dropping in once i get it back |

i post a RRRR thread (retro riders readers rides - just rolls off the tounge) on the silver one and all i get are posts about how great the beige one sits ;D ;D ah well.......been and bought a new radiator - polo 1.3 jobby. why is it so difficult for the people at GSF to understand that I'm buying a radiator that isnt being fitted to the car it is intended for? ;D |

being a sunday and all, building up the zetec was going to be a hard task - i need about eleventy nuts and bolts and no where is open to sell them tis a bit hot too, got this far before i give up and got drunk from:  to:  plus the sump is painted.  got just about as far as i could before i relyed on somewhere being open to continue with everything ah well, still fairly on target for it to be finished by next week |

you connect the PCV thingy to the rocker cover, then the other pipe connects to an oil breater - saves any need for a catch tank at least thats what i think it was made like that for  ill find out when i pop up work next |

my 'escort' sump is a westfield one, so things will be on hold until thursday when I can get hold of one - £220 :x also need: flywheel spigot ring - friday all the bits to fabricate inlet - tomorow ST170 fuel rail - on the lookout still lamdba boss mouting into exhaust - asap   you can see the colour better in those pics too |
