A couple of weeks ago i received an email about a 1985 Skoda Rapid 120 that was FREE for collection. I contacted the chap who owned it, he said it needed moving asap as his wife was wanting it scrapped. He didnt know what the condition was as he hadnt seen it since it was parked in the garage when the tax ran out, this was end of Nov 1998.
I was expecting the car to be rough/vandalised, as on the phone it sounded like the garage was nowhere near his house, and the garage door was past it.
I said i would have the car anyway, as even if it was rough it would yield some useful spares.
WELL.....
today i travelled up to Cramlington, nr Newcastle with my mate wayne105 and his family, in his 2.8 VR6 VW Sharan and trailer, not knowing what to expect.
Upon arrival, i was met by the owner of the car, stood outside his garage with the door propped up with 2 lengths of wood. Inside sat a Hipberry Red 1985 Skoda Rapid 120. It looked a bit sad with a bit of accident damage to the osf corner, and no front bumper.
The handbrake had been left on for the 9 yrs it had sat in the garage, so we hooked a tow rope on to it and dragged it out with the Sharan.

I've not had much chance to have a look at it yet, the interior looks good, and the bodywork seems sound, needs a pair of front wings (got) and a front panel (got).
1 of the sills needs welding, not sure of the other side yet.
Parts needed so far.....
Pair of bumpers (different to normal Estelle/Rapid ones)
Pair of headlights, but may get twin headlight conversion (got 4 pairs of those)

My first car was a Hipberry red Rapid! it was a D reg 130 though so it had the later front, but the pics from the rear make it look just like my first car! Same wheels and cream interior too.  That is really good for a free car! |

If it had the same front as that it would have been a 120, unless it had a replacement engine

You've made me very happy. ;D I think I have some Mk1 bumpers, and some headlamps. I'll have a dig around in my collection of stuff. What plans have you got for this one? And crikey Kenton, how many cars do you have now? They don't all appear to be in your sig ATM.

My plans are to restore the car back to original, no modifications, like you said these are a very rare car now. All the cars in my siggy apart from the Cortina and the CZ are safely in my ownership, still have the Cortina and the CZ to collect. |
