New rolling project- bought it a week ago. Drove it back around 60 miles- brake warning light on all the way. Not the most sensible move looking back but it was stopping OK. Also leaks a bit of oil, no suprise on a Jag engine. 4.2 XK engine in, black leather interior, very smooth old man drive but can shift once it's going. Plans- right awayNeeds new pads for MOT. Apart from that should be OK to pass. Speedo doesn't work- needs a transducer that fits onto gearbox. Thinking about wheels but the originals are nice as well. Then run over the summer Winter plansSort rust around front and back screens- common on these. Apart from that body not bad. Considering dropping some sort of V8 in, think this through when it is running though as the XK may be enough.

nice cars. I like. I nearly bought a series 1 XJ6 a couple of summers back but spongy brakes and one fuel tank not working put me off. Even though it was rot free and defo cheap enough.
One of the magazines years ago (like early 80s) did a feature on fitting a Ford smallblock in a Jag. Seemed an fairly easy swap. And now Ford own Jag its kinda "in the family". Have a look o nthe web 'cos theres plenty of info aout there in the US where fitting their domestic V8s is popular 'cos its far cheaper than fixing any faults with the XK lump!

Beautiful!! These and Early XJ6's are some of my favourite cars ever!! I love the shape, love the whole aura around them. I thnk they're beautiful cars.
Love the Old Jaguar ethos "Space, Pace and Grace". Well done

Fantastic. If you must change the engine, why not keep it Jag and fit the later fuel injected 4.0ltr AJ6? All alloy and very reliable. Loads of torque and power and cheap to buy. Should also be quite easy to fit.
What's up with the heater vent in the 4th picture? Did it get a bit hot or is it just the photo?

I'd be turning it into a Series 2 clone as I think they are the nicest looking of the XJ6s.
AJ6 would be a complex beasty to fit, theres a zillion computers in an XJ40 series...

I love these. I can remember my uncle smoking about in one years ago, looked like it had been repainted with a brush and a tin of dulux.
Theres something so elegant and refined about them though, they really do look so classy. I've often thought about buying one, but haven't been brave enough yet.

Thanks for all the comments!
Will think the engine options over during the summer. Not set on a change for sure yet but tempted. The XK is great but always tempted to change things with a new project.
Will get some more photos up tomorrow from the side, of the wheels and more interior shots.
Wanted one for ages but finally plucked up courage. Great car, wish I'd got one before. Really good looks and a nice drive, only wrd to describe it is class. You feel like smoking a cigar when you're in it. Parts not too expensive so far, plenty of stuff on Ebay as well.

What a damn fine looking machine, nice 70s shade of colour as well. Sounds like it'll be a right proper M1 stormer when you swap the motor out!
