cheers mate. it was really foggy today. my biggest problem though was that i was on a bike i didnt like. I wanted to do it on an 07 reg Yamaha YBR but ended up doing it on a Honda XR which isn't ideal [google it and you'll see what i mean]. and that coupled with nervs really didn't help.
very big sigh of relief though climbing onto the MZ after that. One owns, one is poop...

Not a lot to say. I've passed my test and have since been ferring my girlfriend around alot on the MZ. Its alright actually, as long as you don't come across a hill! Anyway, on Saturday we did 80 miles going over to Darlington and back. Went the back roads as opposed to using main A roads and though it probably took longer is was so much nicer. Sophie [my girlfriend] got a bike jacket and the guy from the shop couldn't believe the MZ when he saw it! "it doesn't have electric start!!" etc. Also stopped off and had a look at those brand new Royal Enfields - I quite fancy one! So, got back and all was good. On Sunday we were meeting my family at High Force for a picnic so we set off at 12 from Hartlepool and battled against a head wind making our way to High Force - again using backroads. We got to just outside Bishop Auckland and were turning right on a roundabout and as I started to lean the bike round it all of a sudden, and very quickly, fell over and the back end stepped out. Thankfully I got my foot out quick enough and managed to hold the bike up. I limped the bike off the roadabout and pulled up. We'd had a puncture. God, it was freakly. Thank god we weren't going quicker and that I managed to stop it hitting the tarmac. Girlfriends are great, but can be quite a worry some times! I have breakdown cover and given I didn't have a spare inner tube I figured I'd ring them. They dispatched someone at 13.15 and he eventually turned up at 15.00! I got snapping in the mean time: The bike looking sorry for itself; The offending article; Sophie could still smile though; When the guy finally arrived he offered to repair it on the spot for £11 so I said "yeah" and 30 minutes later we were on our way. And that we were. The wind was behind us this time and the bike covered 25 miles rather quickly! ;D hehe Today has been much less eventualful, popping up to the farm where Sophie keeps her horse. And then just some random shots of the bike: Looks like I might have to wash it !

Oh, forgot to add, the rear shockers are fooked, so you get the sea-sick effect when you go over bumps!

a prime candidate this bike for barbacue painted exhaust (it works) & the mudguards & panel work off one weekend for a rubdown & coat of silver smoth hammerite, the mz will then stay! cool bike there

Yeah. Plan is to get my 250 road-going and then work on this. Quite a few odd things that need doing. Then pass it on to who-ever needs it next.

Well, time has come for an update. The MZ has been used hard as a daily since Jan. now and racked up nearly 3,000 miles. It was last washed before Easter, and is either satisfying my need for speed or ferrying me and my girlfriend around. However, this last week the old girl has started showing signs of wanting attention. I think it was all compounded by the fact that I only put 4.5 litres in this week [as much as the bank balance would allow!] but since yesterday it has stalled at every set of traffic lights in some sort of attempt to embarrass me and remind me that it needs some TLC. So, I have given in. The first stage was to wash the bike. Its covered about 1500 miles since its last wash, in all conditions on all kinds of roads so it was to say the least; dirty. Before: ^ I was very proud of that utterly manky numberplate! ^ Check all the flies that have met their maker in the face of a slow Smokey 2-stroke! So with the help of a bucket, sponge and pressure washer we had a nice clean bike! ^ I see no flies ^ Crikey, there is no muck there! ^ Almost a shine. ^ Clean numberplate! I noticed this though. The luggage rack is giving up. Will have to find another.... *** I'm not stopping at a clean though. Oh no. I'm gonna check the ignition timing, clean out the carb, clean the plug and check the tyre pressures tomorrow. Hopefully that'll cure the stalling problem and rattle that have appeared recently... I'll leave you with this rather lovely shot my girl, and stay tuned for the update of how the mechanical servicing goes...

you could weld that luggage rack or pop by a car body repair shop & have a word & sort the guy with a 10er, jobs a gud-un! hope you get her running ok, reminds me of "the long way round" some nice atry shots of the bike too! deseves a little feature in classic bike i reckon!

curse word off.
carb has been striped and cleaned and back together.
when i started it after putting the carb back on the fuse blew. so i've gone and got a new fuse and changed it. the wiring is a total mess round the battery, connectors here there and everywhere and a complete mix of wires. anyway, i put the new fuse in and started it up. it's running like a bag of nail, not really revving, tring to die and the ignition light was on [its supposed to go out when the engine is running]. the brand new fuse i had put in was really hot and has blown in a bad way.
ideas?
i need a bike for monday and also have an exam on monday so i cant spend anymore time on this bike this weekend!

Without meaning to sound horrible was it running better or worse before you stripped and rebuilt the carb? I seem to remember you having a fuse blowing fault before TBH. To trace the fuse blowing fault I would disconnect everything that the fuse powers and 1 by 1 reconnect them all till the fuse starts getting hot. Good luck with the exam.

it was running fine before hand. The only reason for stripping the carb and cleaning it was that it had clocked up 3000 miles and had been quite some time since it'd had been. it was however stalling at traffic lights and there was some sort of electrical issue. if you have the headlight turned on it won't rev beyond 5,000rpm and stutters in 1st at high revs. also, with the headlight on, if you indicated at 50mph (5000rpm in 4th) the bike lurched each time the indicator flashed (no spark i am asuming?) my dad reckoned this was a poor earth? turn the headlight off and it all works perfectly (the indicators are also brighter).
there are two fuses on the whole bike. both in-line and its the same one that has blown on 3 different occasions since i got the bike.
i have stand-in transport for monday

Just been for a random ride covering about 10 miles locally (so that I could push it home if required!)
Nearly got killed by some noob, but apart from that it was great. Oh how I have missed the greatness of two wheels.

i miss my bike just read the first post... aww. the clock now reads 17000 miles. the engine reads a big fat ZERO. she's died.
