1992 Rover Metro GTa 16V: 9/3/08 Trackday *VIDEO*

Bah! This car really tries my patience! The weather tomorrow is going to be just a notch over terrible, only just got the transporter i've rented as the wheels were buckled, it needed a tyre and the lights fixing but since it wasn't ready i got it delivered to the house!Did the oil last night, going to change the rusty water later. Moved a rather large heavy marble table to get to the metro and pulled it out of the garage...

....lop sided. Displacer burst again. They're all just too old and worn out and it was the one i just changed, it has literally travelled 20m 's! I had dropped the pressures too hoping it would avoid damaging then, 400psi now instead of the standard 350psi. I have one left so i'll get it in tonight and hope it holds, not what i needed when i planned to finish up some coursework today. Only problem is i'll have to do it outside, and the rain here is undescribable, not been this bad in a long time. I could do it in a lovely 4 car heated garage but my brothers VR6 golf is still on axle stands and i told him last week it was in my way. Argh! Rant over!

I WILL be at that trackday tomorrow.

I made it!

As i mentioned above the problems with the trailer, it got worse. The trailer was delivered to the house but later i realised it had no skids to drive the car on! Argh! Had to use heavy iron ramps and take them with us to the trackday.

The suspension problem was a tiny O-ring on the front left induvidualisation valve, ended up having the suspension out twice and tested it twice in the vice before i solved it by fitting another O ring which just by complete chance i still had an old pipe under a bench in the garage! Result!

We loaded the car up but had to reverse it onto the trailer as it was too low to drive on with the ramps. About halfway through the journey we stopped at a garage to find the car was working itself loose and down the trailer! Reversed it up tight and tied it down much better, didn't move after that.

So after all that we eventually arrived! The sun was out, despite some chilly winds (which eventually died down a bit) the weather was good, it threatened to rain but held off luckily! Not many cars showed up, to list a few; Kit car with paddle shift and awesome power, Mi16 309, many MK2 Golf's, Fiat Panda, 106 on bike carbs and a few others.

its the usual story, the driving ROCKED! It was definatly the most fun i've had at a trackday yet. Plenty of track time, 5 runs for me, 4 for my brother and 1 for my dad. A few hightlights: Had my brother in with me and he urged me on as i chased down a Pug 309 Mi16 and promptly pwned him! My brother giving a Golf GTi 16V a real good run and it's owner being genuinely happy about it and commenting on the car afterwards.

I had two off's, one loosing the back end into a chicane and sending a poor cone flying and on my last session loosing it on a 3rd gear corner at the end of the straight. One scary mistake was at the end of the back straight i was braking, and hell-toeing as i went down the gears but dropped in into 2nd waaay to soon and the hand went off the rev counter! Eek!

My brother had bad luck, his 2nd run he hit a kerb too hard and put off the Kill switch so i had to advise over the phone were it was! Then it caught fire on his 4th run! The battery dislodged itself and earthed, sending it up in sparks, luckily that fire extinguisher worked and saved it! He promptly drove on and it went on for 2 more sessions! It's now FULL of extinguisher powder!

It was the most fun i've had yet, despite suspension, trailer and many other thing's we made it and it was well worth it.

Sorry about the lack of pics, there are no internet reports of the TD yet but i'll copy/paste as soon as there is some. Just some of the aftermath of the fire.







Only have 3 video's from the day and the camera is too low but you can get the jist of what cars were infront of me, will try and get them up soon. Reports are 10x more boring without pics!

i don't suppose your an apprentice plumber?? Take it u know michael nutt and the squad? Metro is comin on supurb by the way... used to have a rotten 5 door with a 14 16v in it, sounded great wi cherry bomb and tights! u shud def buy a 1.1 for ur first road car, 14 it, and make it a lil euro!

oh aye! racey steels on the back and a hole in the bumper where a fence ran into me! lupo wud b cool, is it a diesel?
