Eventually decided to get this topic going! Bought the car October '06 (Friday the 13th!) for a local racing series but it has been closed down and moved locations. So after spending 4 1/2 months and some cash I'm left with a car almost ready to race with the racing series closed down. There may be a trackday soon that I can take part in but that is unconfirmed....More on that when I hear. Spec:'92 Rover Metro GTa 16V 1396cc SPI K-Series 97K Miles Pipercross Filter (Amazing sound when the Loud pedal is pressed) New Water Pump New Timing Belt Thermostat Removed Colling system flushed New Oil + Filter New Plugs, Leads, Dizzy cap and Rotor Arm HD Toyota Avensis Battery! GTI Metro Front Dampers Rear AntiRoll Bar Carpets, Headlining, Doorcards etc all stripped out Cobra Drivers Seat GTa passenger Seat 6 Point Sabelt Harness Mini Steering Wheel Some sound deadening removed Steel wheels + GTa wheel trims and random 165/65 R13 curse word tyres To be Fitted:175/50 R13 Yokohama A539's Rollcage (home made jobbie, friend in the Mini Club will be employed!) De-cat (remove cat, fill it petrol, poke insides out) Fit GTI front Splitter Going to sort the suspension: Induvidualise the Hydrogas suspension with a kit from Reyland Lower + Stiffen it (guide on Metro Power) using the Hydrogas pump I got free. Fit rear Droop Stops (like the opposite of a bump stop- When cornering hard it will tripod and lift the inside rear wheel) Needs:Clutch (slipping slightly in the higher revs) New Brake Fluid (boiled it once already, hasnt been changed in years) Speedo Cable A few Patches welded when cage is being welded in Finish bolting in the Harness Gearbox Oil Now for some pics: Some of the Rust The reason I stopped removing the Sound deadening! This is the 6" gap with the Yokos and GTa rims! Will need some serious slamming! Obligitory Cheesy pic The desired effect of Droop Stops And said droop stops

Nice! I still prefer A series Mettys myself but always had a soft spot for the Rover Gta and GTi.
Ooh, just remembered! Was chatting to someone who worked for Rover during the time the revised Metro was being developed. At one point, they had one with a 1.6 TURBO'd K series in it!
Quite nippy apparently. (under-statement of the century!)

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

@ Adam - Yea, was undecided, still don't think its retro atall in my eyes but here it is. Cant wait to see it slammed and finished ( for now). Planning just to keep it, hasnt cost me the world and any debts are squared, just a track day car for when i have a liscence (or if it is possible for me to take part in TD's i will!) @ Dollywobbler - Love A-series metros myself, didnt really know muc about them(apart from i needed an MG metro engine ) 'til this came about. The guy i bought it from (friend of mines dad) gave me a load of tuning magzines for Rovers and Metros, also read about some on Metro power with the 1.8 Turbo'd K from a Rover 220t shoehorned in with good effects. Slap on an Elise PG1 gearbox with the LSD and its all good. @ Slater - There was a group buy batch of them on Metro Power not so long ago...Might be a few sets still kicking about. Mines are 7mm from memory. Just a quick search on there should bring up some info, but I'm sure you'll be fit to make them yourself. The Harness was a bargain £30 after it was beyond FIA safety dates As was my cool Arai Helmet - £40 because it was out of Date with the FIA My bro says he has some Moon Eye stickers which i'll slap on the helmet for the added coolness One more cheesy pic:D

+1800vvc ftw
the 1.4mpi gti metro is a seriously quick car on the track..often seen embaressing far more powerful cars on the track. I remeber seeing one at Cadwell demolishing an Evo. The whole car cost less that stcky rubber that the guy forked out for on the Evo.
Rust is natures way of saying it was too heavy to start with.

Ya'right mate. I don't suppose you live in Hinckley? Nope far from it! Northern Ireland! suffolkpaul - VVC'ing it would be almighty! Just don't have the funds plus the 1400 is quick enough for me. May eventually convert it to MPI and get a S/S janspeed but that all depends on if I can drive it, if not it'll not do much until I'm 17. Rust is Lighter than metal ;D

This is a cool car - I wanted it, but I didnt have the space. Jay - put the headlights back in though I'm still recovering from that nighttime drive From what I know the 16v Twincam GTa is very rare, so keep her between the hedges dude!!

Wooo - Hooo! Trackday confirmed that i can take part ;D Just need to get practising now. Also because of very good feedback from my teachers from my Parent/Teacher Interviews I'm getting the Induvidualisation Pipes a bit sooner! That means i can Lower it, Stiffen It, Fit droop stops and Induvidualise it! Accompanied with the GTI Dampers and Anti-Roll Bar thats the Suspension Sorted! After that it still needs: Rollcage Brake Fluid Speedo Cable Suspension as above Also need to find the passenger Seatbelt, need to take Dad in the Car with me to keep me right! Woo!

Small update! Trackday ever closer and its going to be tight going to have the Metro ready in time. Decatted it the other night with the Help of my brother. Hammer, selection of bars and 30 mins later we had a povo spec de-cat. There are possible health issues with this method! Be careful! (Does sound much better now though!) Also since i have very little fast driving experience we went for a bit of practising and for me to get a feel for the car - Fun! Also fitted the yokohamas before this to get them scrubbed in. Also fitted a fire extingusher - Hopefully never needed! Brought discs from Halfords - £20 Bargain! Local Motor factors had some Hydrolastic fluid in stock so snapped that up for a Further £14 Old discs didnt look bad but compaired to the new ones were very thin! The pads were fitted shortly before it was taken off the road and were only about 80% worn so the grooves were sanded out and the pads refitted. Also filled the system with 5.1 Brake fluid - No boiling issues there! Lent a trailer (need to invest in our own soon!) and Dad and I dropped the car off to a Friend, Jason to have a Rollcage fabricated and some of the rust patched. Hes aiming to finish for saturday but it will be Tuesday at the latest. Ordered individualisation pipes from Reyland - When they eventually answered the phone - And then organised themselves to let the deal go through. Also, since i havent really figured out eBay yet got Mark to order me a clutch - Thanks Dude! So hoping that arrives soon. So that leaves a clutch to fit and all the suspension work to do before the trackday so the sooner the car returns the better! Really cant wait even though i will likely 5H17 myself out on the track! The car just flies and will stick to the track like crazy, absolutly cant wait!
