the 1.4mpi gti metro is a seriously quick car on the track.. you got that right.. I used to work at a rover dealer when these were new and the salesman mate of mine used to get a multi point gti metro as a company car - it could shift ;D and I think there were even less of them sold than the gta single point oh and his car was the same colour as yours J.P so this thread is bringing back some good memories !!

Also, since I havent really figured out eBay yet got Mark to order me a clutch - Thanks Dude! So hoping that arrives soon. So that leaves a clutch to fit and all the suspension work to do before the trackday so the sooner the car returns the better! Let me know when it arrives man.

Update. Rollcage is in. Mahoosive thanks to Jason and his friend who did the work for me. Excellent job and excellent price. Cage makes it feel more 'race car'. Going to give it a lick of black paint before Sunday. Basically a 6 Point cage with: Bar between rear arches for harnesses. Diagonal behind seats Doorbars They also plated up the worst of the rust for me. Fitted the Yokos as i said. With this evenings driving the fronts are nicely scrubbed in. Will stick them on the rear for the trackday. Yesterday (Thursday) came home. Homework done. Eat Dinner. 5.30pm out to garage to work at the metro. 6.30 brother is home from work and he helps me start suspension. Rear has been lowered, Induvidualised and stiffened sucessfully. but it isnt low enough we've decided. ^^ Suspension de-gassed before dis-assembly. Also no droop stops. Couldnt get the original stops off atall even with WD40, BlowTorch, LOTS of Block Hammer/ Attitude adjuster/ Gentle persuader etc. By this stage it was 12 at night and we called it a day after we bolted the front unit in again. Today (friday) Front is where it gets annoying. We lowered it but the height didnt drop whatsoever. I look it for a long drive, threw it vigourisly side to side, jumped on it etc. After one helpful being on MetroPower told me i need to cut down the knuckles aswell i tried that but havent taken enough off. Called it a night at that. Will resume tomorrow. Clutch arrived! The people who do all the stickers/signs for Dads' work are currently doing a load of graphics for the Metro. Various people/friends companies who helped with the metro, not nesscessarily sponsorship but cheap tyres/ lend of a trailer etc. So it'll look like the race car it was ment to be after tomorrow. Still to Do Finalise the suspension Bleed Brakes - Soft pedal Fit passeneger seat + Belt Clean out the inside - Minging from Rollcage fitting New Wiper Blades Probably some more ive forgot about Finally i need to buy some Skill and experience for Sunday, anyone know of any For Sale? Probably wont have time to do the Clutch tomrrow but we'll see. Its not desperatly needed, the old one could hang in there a while longer but a new one would be nice. As it currently Sits - too high at the front. When front is lowered the rear will probably need levelled with that.

The cage is looking pretty good! Definately needs a lick of paint on that. And having taken the curse word out of how 'high' the Polo....

And having taken the pee out of how 'high' the Polo.... Secretly its a 4X4 Metro...... Think i have it sussed now, 1/2 hour of different searches on MetroPower brought up an answer. Learned the hard way not to pull myself forward in the seat to adjust myself as it only leads to my head being cracked off the 'cage!

Rollcage padding?! Thats for Saps GJM - Thanks! I'll swap you for the Marcos! I enjoy having this car aswell as the Mini, this one is much more dirty, rough and ready, and that bit more hardcore, So its nice to have that difference! Think ive sussed the Suspension problems.Had to machine the suspension knuckles.Ohh how the sparks fly . Have right hand unit built up and gassed. Stopped now for lunch now though, then the moment of truth if the height is ok :S

Done! Got the height sorted, wasnt as low as i wanted but we've agree'd now its a good height. Too late to upload pics but the car is transformed. All stickered up and it looks the SHIZZ if i d say so myself. Sorted Ride Height and Pressures Fixed bowing exhaust New (ish) Wiper blades - Forgot to get new ones, old ones non existant so had to modify some used ones from an Avensis my brother serviced last week. Swapped Tyres Front and rear as fronts were better scrubbed in - Wanted more grip in Rear. Fixed Soft brake pedal - Lots of bleeding. Fitted Psseneger seat + Belt Sprayed some of the rear to tidy it up a bit. Hoovered out all the curse word Wash, bumpers gel'd, tyres slicked, graphics on, quick polish. Woo Took it a few test runs to try out new suspension and Camera Mount. (ghetto'd camera tripod tied with shoelace to rollcage ) Let my bro drive so thats his head sticking into the Camera at the start. Heres a link to YouTube for the Video - May take a while before its working. (Note: Speaky clutch -Rattly bootlid) Roll on the Trackday!

Really like this Metro. A friend at work races them and they can REALLY shift. He's just finishing off a K-Series one for the coming season. Metro Cup, I think. Metros boogie... ;D "I'm"

Update! Worked all easter ( Goodbye Toyota Parts Assistant ....Hello Volkswagen Parts Assistant ) and gathered some wedge and spent almost all of it within an hour of leaving work! Met a nice man breaking two Hillclimb metros and bought as much as i could afford. GTI Vented Discs and Calipers Cobra Monaco with Metro Subframe TRS 4 Point Harness Diesel Radiator (these have 2x capaity of a Petrol one) - Free! Going to get the discs skimmed at work, i'll see how these pads are but i may see about some EBC type pads, the racier the better. I tested the radiator just now as its leak free, i think i'll still have it re-cored though. Also over easter i wired the Fan up to the dash and used one of the buttons for the rear wash/wipe since they arent needed anymore after removing the rear wiper motor and wiring. The original modifed subframe was fitted to the Monaco and the subrame that came with the Monaco fitted to the clubman seat, this was ment for a driver so its too far forward for a passenger, modification required! I had a length of battery cable from the Donor Mini and relocated the battery to behind the passenger seat. Before Looks much cooler with only one seat IMO Leaves plenty of room up here The Monaco is much nicer to sit in, the Clubman was tight and very comfy but the Monaco 'Feels' better, and the 6 Point harness now funtions properly because it comes up through the seat. A Mini club I'm in are having a trackday soon at a track called Nutts Corner so they don't mind me attending, provisional dates are around the end of May so thats something to look forward to. Hoping to be able to buy a few more bits from the same guy i bought the last bits from before then. He has an MPI tubular manifold which is modifed for a bit more flow accompanied by a side exit exhaust. He aslo has a full MPI system with 1800 injectors, Rover 220 turbo 56mm throttle body and plenty other bits, that would give me 110bhp +..... ;D He also has an 1800cc engine, but that'll not be anytime soon Also, the onboard video from the trackday was made in a read only file, so i cant upload it, which is a shame because it was very cool! That is all for now!

UPDATE 7th JuneAfter Hating the car so much since march i love it again. Went to a trackday last Saturday (2nd June) organised by a Mini club I'm in but they said they'd let the Metro in. After fitting the GTI Vented Discs and calipers I faced plenty of hurdles to get the car there. I planned to fit some new dampers from the Mini (we got Gaz adjustables instead of these) but the hole the lower pin went through was too small, so i bored it out in the Pillar Drill, but the rubbers got a little hot, into a bucket of water and they were fine. My exams coming up next week, various courseworky things to get done i was up til 2am last Thursday getting everything done to get to the trackday. Pumped suspension up to 600psi but the ride height was higher than expected but i left it and done the homeworks. Up at 6.30 as usuall and off to school. Arrived home and the Car is lying to one side. Knew the Displacer had give in. 4.04pm had the displacer out and it was well and truely done! After a few phonecalls i found someone, 15mins away with a metro for breaking, so i packed all the tools to remove it and left at 5.45, arrived at his but he had left, wife had no keys to the shed with the metro. GRRR. Many phonecalls later Ryan came to the Rescue again, kindly having the displacer out of the car for when i arrived. BIG Thanks! Home at 8.30 fitted it and set pressures at 500front and 550 rear. My cousin hadnt made the battery strap i asked him to so i took a metal petrol tank strap from a Mini and bolted it through the floor. Finished at 12.30. Up at 5.30am and got all the tools/spares into the car and Dad helped get the ca on the trailer. Stopped for some BT Ultimate and off to Nutts Corner! Couldnt believe it after the setbacks. There wasnt a big turnout, about 15 cars, so we got plenty of runs. The track was Nutts Corner, us being the first on it in years after it was closed or something but our Trackday was a testbed noise wise to see if it can reopen. We arrived and the track was dry, but they sky was waiting to rain. I REALLY wanted it to rain, just to see what driving in rain was like, bearing in mind this is my 2nd time ever driving! My first two sessions were dry, i was doing really bad though, couldnt get a rythm and driving rougher than the skin on yer grannies feet. I eventually got a 'rythm' and slowed down, being smoother and getting faster etc etc. Dad also had plenty of runs. We stopped for lunch and the rain came on. WOO! I really loved the wet, plenty of oversteer, lost it once and put it in the gravel, all caught on camera! Same thing happened next session but i managed to control it! Woo! Really felt i learned lots about driving, when are you ever going to spend a full day oversteering a Metro on the open road?! I did like the organisers changing the layout throughout the day, very good idea. I started chasing a friend of Mine, Colin, in his blue race Mini but coundt get past him atall, was so much fun, couldnt believe i could consistenly drive so fast! The highlight of the day was the last Run, petrol was at just over enough for a session, i was first on track, but missed a gearchange on the straight and let Nicks 1430cc 115bhp clubby past, nailed it for a few more laps with no-one around, a go-kart came out on track and i went on a Kerb and over the grass and Let Jasons Mini, a Z-Cars r1 Bike engine'd Mini pass me, then FLOORED it after him. On paper he had the faster car but despite these minis seeming the ultimate Mini, they don't handle half as good as the normal suspension in a Mini and i was right on his bumper, bar the straights where i was left for dead, not helped by 2 missed gear changes! Inexperience showing its ugly head! He couldnt get any worthwhile distance on me. Probably the most adrenaline filled 5 mins of my life ever, just amazing. For the Metro however, this extra pushing took its toll. The radiator fan siezed, temperature was fine when i was moving, but when i stopped i couldnt get it cooled and the expension tank was swelled up like a balloon! We called it a day at that and headed home, very satisfied. Taking it off the trailer it ran off by itself! :S Just missed a wall and took a lump of Isopon (don't know how that got there wink ) off the back arch and bent the bottom of the front panel so the bumper doesnt sit right! Total Damages: Sore engine 3 Broken suspension displacers, bent Drivers side damper mount, ripped the welds from the chassis leg! filled with water from many new leaks, broke my new bike speedo, broken radiator fan, even more munched Yokohamas, bonnet doesnt shut right, loose ECU plugs secured my cable ties, loose coil plugs (no known solution yet!) Was worth it though. don't know of any trackdays until september time, Two GTI NI ones and another Ni-minis one. Cant wait! Also been researching fitting an MG TF rear Subframe (basically a Metro Front subby) with Damper mounts and coilover kits are readily available and wont be like a Metro coilover that would mount to my already damaged Damper mounts. Heres the Video of me after the R1, Enjoy! video.google.co.uk/videoplay?docid=-8477259684609611679&hl=en-GB

i see its a single point injection metty, can the 56 throttle pot from the rover 220 turbo fit? i ask as my dad has a rover 414saloon thats a single point injection, also where did you get your airfilter, i need one but struggling to get on i have grp front wings for one of these rover metros, brand new if you want to make an offer, they are light as a feather, good on a trackday machine & if you crack them the yare easy to repair! whats the contact details for reyland? love ya little metro, its great! you can cut the spare wheel well out & replace it with some thin sheet alloy! put polycarbante back windows in thats cheap & worthwhile, make the car as light as you can, break open the grinde & cut all the un-needed brackets & mounts off & take the meta crash bars off from behind the bumpers! gta wheels are the best rover mtro wheel choice by far! if you convert to a MPI let me have 1st dibs on your airfilter! cheers bud, keep it up good driving too!

reyland.co.ukdon't know if the 56mm Fits SPI's but it definatly fits MPI's! Pipercross was on it when i got it. Ive seen the same filter on SPI Minis but how different the mounting base is i don't know. Had a look on the Pipercross site but i don't see any for SPI's. I'm told its the best filter for SPI's, sounds great too. I am very intrested in your front wings but i have absolutly no cash at the minute! Ive only heard of them never seen a set for sale. If you still have them in the future i'll see what i can do. I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place when it comes to Mods Now. Rust situation is, as with any metro, looking bleak. Still fine for trackdays, if it lasted until this time next year after my GCSE's id condier repairing/reshelling it. But it might be more worth my while to get a Nova or Savo VTS/ Pug106. Really want to keep up motorsport, hillclimbs, sprints and trackdays. Just knowing when to stop discarding the rust and bolting on performance bits! I a sappy way, i feel attached to the car! Hate to see it get so rusty that it was broken for spares etc, would rather it go with pride and flip eleventeen times!
