Here's my latest acquisition, a C58 shape Colt GTi Scored for £200 after a couple of failed ebay auctions, it's destined to replace my lancer for daily driver and backlane thrasher duties. It needed a new gear selector cable, new handbrake cables, and wants the exhaust sorting, towbar removing and the bumpers and side trims de-fillering and repainting black. Luckily i dragged a same shape colt out a garden the other week so i've managed to score the selector cable off that, and it should yield a few useful spares too It also let me find out that it's unfathomably quick! and so should be a right hoot Here's a poor before pic: and now a few after a trial fitment of some spanky nice rims They couldnt fit better!! Its already lowered 40mm, and if it goes down any more i wont be able to get it in my drive, so proper slammage is unfortunately out of the question!

Looks ace and the wheels really suit the car. What are the specs on these, engine size, power/torque etc? Don't recall ever having seen one before but I was never much into J car spotting 'til I started hanging around here too much...

A very neat little car, I like. Amazing how sh1t the original wheels look, it would never occur to me to change em, but it looks about 100000000 times better with the new ones on.

The C5 series Colts were made from 89-92, With a 1.6 16v GTi from 89-91, and the 1.8 16v which mine is from 91-92. Engine Tech specs are: Code 4G67 Manufacturer Mitsubishi Type S-4 Wet sumped DOHC 16 valves total 4 valves per cylinder Displacement 1836 cc Compression ratio 10.50:1 Fuel system EFi Aspiration Normal *edited as it has a 4G67 rather than a 4G93*

Cheers for the info Mike. It appears the 1.8 model as very similar vital statistics to a 1.8L 16v VW engine, they make 139bhp and 124lbsft peak if I remember correctly. I expect the Colt is lighter weight than a Golf though - must fly!

Another bargain! one of those cars i'd never look for, but should, looks bloody smart. a lot of cars have curse word wheels restricting obvious potential. nice work

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

Wow, that looks good! I find myself looking at the 80's J tin on the streets of Amsterdam more and more, riding my bike looking the wrong way... all that potential!

I can’t remember torque right now, but that power output is also very close to the Mazda 323F GT I used to have, also a 1.8. Likewise that used to go rather well. I sometimes used to see a 5dr Lancer GTi locally, which I think is basically the same as this Colt but with different back end.
Looks great with those wheels on!

Really transforms the car, good job there! Is this the hatch version of the Galant? I recall seeing a 4WD rally version a few years ago. I'm a huge fan of all incarnations of the Galant.

Looks mean, I've never been a fan of these before... seeing one on rims like that is a breath of fresh air.
I wouldn't try boosting a 4G93, the turbo ones snap rods as it is.... 4G63T conversion FTW!

Well, it's been a while but there's progress on the Colt at last! I've not really done a great deal to it apart from remove the exhaust manifold and get it welded up as it'd cracked, and get the wheels bolted back together and tyred up, but tonight should see them all fitted, and the handbrake cables and new back box fitted too Just the cambelt and oil and filters change to do then and it's MOT time, which hopefully will see it on the road by the 1st, so i don't have to re-tax the lancer I'll add some pics of progress later
