Ok, pushing the retro bubble ever wider, i thought i'd include my 309, so you can all bask in its blandness, mmm.... Its one owner from new, and its in pretty good nick, the old little scratch here and there. It came on these steels and trims So i got the 205 GTi alloys off ebay (for £20) and put those on, a big improvement i think Plans at the moment are just to remove the tow bar, which i wont use, and doesnt even have a hitch on it... and take off the god awful blue and yellow stripe down the side

Thats a straight looking thing, 1.9 turbo like the 306? If so I bets its a really good drive, too.

Its 1769cc, with 76bhp, rather than the 1905cc unit in the 306 which has 90bhp, pretty good torque, but the turbo is quite laggy, something I would like to do summit about. They did introduce an intercooled version to the 309 range, but I don't know if this is one of those.
EDIT: Peugeot produced an intercooled turbo version of the XUD9 engine, but it might not have been put in the 309.

Ooh very clean looking, and those wheels are an instant improvement, bargain! I particularly like these lowered, they seem to be ablr to get them right on the floor and look awesome IMO From memory the intercoolers on these if they have them sit right on top of the engine, and have a different bonnet with a vent...... think thats right anyway

the 1.7 peugeot diesel engine never came intercooled. How ever the same engine did come intercooled in the old honda concerto shape Rover 200/400.
BUT the Rover installation doesnt fit in the 309 engine bay! Despite all my efforts.
However if you did want to extract some more horses from your engine, it has been recommended to install a Xantia 1.9 TD inlet manifold which enables easier installation of a FMIC. You can then up the fuel and rev limiter on the fuel pump which is said to give a 10 - 15% increase in power.
I have collected the mainfold and a Mondeo TDCI intercooler which is the perfect size for a the cut out on the bottom of a 309 GTI bumper. My plans have changed with the car, so if your interested you can buy the lot of me.

Apparently the 309 is on a stretched 205 chassis (i've been reading the wikipedia page on them) and the GTi versions are supposed to be a better drive than the 205. With this one i'm not sure about lowering because there are massive speed bumps around my way (near lincoln castle) and it'd be a pain in the , but would look good. It is going to have a bit of cleaning, those door strips in particular, but i think there are plastic lugs holding them on, rather than them just being stuck on. Some turbo improvements would be interesting tho (not to mention useful!), just need to start reading up now. Did PPC do an article on turbo diesels recently?

another disappeared model making a '92K retro IMO. great work, same engine as BX yeah? thought they'd have more than 76bhp. still enough like and watch those fuel savings

If it's anything like the non-turbo 1800 in my 205 it's spectacular on fuel- taking it steady I managed 58mpg and even caning the absolute nads off it it still did 49.
309's with their longer wheelbase are far less prone to the lift-off oversteer that has done for so many enthusiastically-driven 205's over the years. :-)

Use spax 205 GTI springs at the front if lowering. they are softer than 309 springs and lower about 10+ what they say, but it improves the handling alot and keeps a nice ride too. The strips are held in with plastic lugs, so the holes will need filling. I think there is about 3 holes in each door. But it looks alot nicer without the strips.

And talking of lift off oversteer, i made a ridiculous sideways entry into scotch corner services a while ago in the wet, and scared quite a few people (myself included) not the only time its done it either.

My mate's 309GTI was like that, till he ditched the Nankang tyres for some Avons and dropped it 40mm with some Spax action...much much better now.

I'm hoping that the better, and slightly wider section tyres on the alloys will help, but any spax based fun will have to wait till payday (prob payday in march come to think about it...)

Another 309 on RR! ;D , i'll put mine up tonight ('90 GRD turbo) Loving the pepperpots they always look great re: towbar , was thinking of taking mine off, luckily i didn't as had to use it to tow a GRD out of a hedge the other week , plus i think it acts as an olden days parking sensor (if you hear a clunk then you've gone too far)
