Here's a few pics of my current daily driver, and shock horror its not a Skoda. Its a 1991 Ford Escort 1. van, ex British Gas. Its taxed and tested until Feb 07 and cost the grand sum of £50 ;D YES thats right £50 ;D Its had a pair of new front wings fitted, and there's a new battery tray sat in the back waiting to be fitted. The engine has done aroung 150,000 miles, but starts first time every time, and runs great. I haven't decided what my plans are, whether to keep it, run it until i get my Felicia pick up fixed then sell it, or run it into the ground and scrap it.

Now I don't rate these at all but you have to hand it to Ford. It's a very neat back end for a van.

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

We ran an M-plate one as a marshalling barge/parts chaser for a bit, was OK until we put the 17" rims off my mate's trashed Mundano estate...then it would struggle to pull 75 on the flat and was down to 60 on the hills...
As a beater/hack though 55mpg isn't to be sniffed at, they cost peanuts to run.
One word of warning though.....if you hit them with the lowering stick the load compensator valve on the back brakes thinks that the van's loaded, and puts extra effort on the back brakes....fun in the wet......NOT!!!

It may look like a METHADONE DELIVERY VEHICLE, but at that price you really cannot argue. Wish I could pick one up that cheap, save me getting grease all over the fambly wagon. ;D

that trucker idea has given me another idea, pu some big stack exhausts up the side, airbrush something corny like a wolf or a dragon on the side and fit a rolls royce grille and square headlights. that would be awesome, stupid, but awesome

With all that on there you won't need a 56mph limiter..... :-)

If you're going to keep it any length of time I would change the timing belts and pay special attention to the plastic idlers! The 1. Ford engine is a swine for timing belt failure!

Funny you should say that I know someone who bought an identical J-reg Escort Van only the body was in far worse condition (oh it was a proper nice thing) for £50 and the timing belt went instantly, as in, that day!
