Yeah sounds like what initially seemed like a bum deal, with the car not looking quite as it did in the magazine article only a short while ago. The car with its new MOT & buffed-up paintwork now looks like quite a steal for your £300 Its certainly alot of car for the money. I to like the fact that its abit of an oddity - surely theres more differences over and above the lights to seperate the 200 Turbo & a 100 turbo? Hopefully get to see you & the Audi at the next Beds/Herts/Bucks meet? Really fancying one of these at the mo.... Just seem to be known as a V8 Quattro - does anyone know if they are based on anything else?

Not sure they are. The styling is very 100/200 but I have a feeling the V8 is overall a larger car. In modern terms, the 100 is an A6, the V8 is now an A8. In other words, looks the same but is enormous!

This car owes me a lot more than £300 now, I can assure you of that!
Those V8's are teh sh1zz. I have had one, a 3.6 auto, 250 bhp. The 'hull' of the bodyshell is like a late model 200 tq but almost all the external panels are slightly different. the interior is the same as a 200tq but with every option fitted as standard. The engine is effectively 2 golf GTI 16v's spliced together (i think they share a cylinder head casting) and it is a total honey. I used mine as a daily for a long time and it was fantastic, 25mpg is achievable with an awesome V8 burble. Not blisteringly fast unlest you really gun the engine, but somehow unstoppable. All V8-specific parts are ridiculously expensive and difficult to find, but most bits that are likely to wear out can be nicked from elsewhere in the VAG range.
My mate Miballsa_ritchie off here has had two including a 4.2, that is rarer but better than the 3.6, 280bhp with no economy 'trade-off'. All are autos but a few manual ones exist on the continent.

Top write-up Mr_B! Did you ever go for that job at PC?
Funny how you gradually build up a relationship and trust in a car isn't it? Always (well, mostly) an enjoyable process.

From memory the 4.2 never used more fuel than the 3.6. And was approx 1 million percent better to drive. Mainly because it had a fook load more torque, the 3.6 always felt sluggish from a standing start. My 4.2 had also had its cats replaced with straight thru pipes, which made it wail! However for the ultimate Audi V8 win its gotta be a lang. This is the only one I have ever spotted in the flesh, parked up at a motorbike dealer here in Stuttgart. or

So are you bringing this along to the Beds & Herts RR meet? Always liked these big Audis, as my parents had two 100 Avants However for the ultimate Audi V8 win its gotta be a lang. This is the only one I have ever spotted in the flesh, parked up at a motorbike dealer here in Stuttgart. That looks superb & far more classy than any other modern stretch limo ;D ;D

Actually I had the OSR wheel off in that shot, the cat was actually supporting the car while I checked the brake pads.

Anyone fancy an update on this car? I have now had it a year and done 23,000 miles in it. It needed some fettling in the beginning, particularly the front suspension which I completely rebuilt with new shockers and bushes, strut tops etc etc but apart from that I have just driven it. Shamefully I have never even done the cambelt, despite not knowing when it was last done. I have used it a lot for towing old heaps around, which it is bloody great at. The torquey turbo engine, big brakes and 4wd make it a perfect towcar. Now it is due for an MOT and a year of neglect is probably going to catch up with me. MOT preparation have extended to buying a new rear light after the old one was smashed in a trouser-ruining incident with the A-frame, which also resulted in a big dent in the rear wing (now knocked out as best I can): The rear wings were also tackled by JonCedric, who did a great job at digging out the rot, welding em up and repainting them: After a year of use and never being washed there is still not a speck of rust on em. Beds/herts/cambs R-R members have seen this car in the flesh several times, and no doubt been impressed by the amount of wibblepoo I like to cart around at all times: I am thinking of changing this car soon however. Although the economy is good (I get about 31-32 mpg) its still not a cheap way to do 400 miles a week. Overall I estimate to have spent about £1500 on owning it including buying, repairs at JohnCedrics and other parts and stuff. I estimate it would 'bay for about £300-350 with a ticket on it, meaning I have had a cost per mile of 5p or 19p including petrol. That compares favourably with the AA cost per mile for a £13000 petrol hatchback of approx 35p. See you later depreciation! A great car.

How are you going to be able to do 400 miles a week more reliably for cheaper whilst still keeping the same flexibility?
Piece of mind and reliability is worth the extra 1p/mile it might cost you to run over something like a 405 Diesel..
