To join in with the novelty of two 3-doors joining the RR RR page, decided it was about freekin time I showed ya mine too! ;D Plans great aren't they? Maybe i'm afraid of rust, but I have kept up with the tradition of this one being agrophobic for the past 15 or so years, by keeping it 'comfortable' for a year+ or so! Built by a mechanic frend, this project begun as a sideline in the early 90's as a Cossie chasing street sleeper! Time has been taken to get the quality high. better condition than my J reg! So I lashed loads o cash once the Capri O doom had gone. Great plan was to also sell the Sapph and be a one car man!!! LOL and why not I wanted retroness, customness, performance, and a more powerful Sierra than the Sapph. Ideas and designs for this have come and gone, and at this moment it could go either way! It was gonna go Street mild custom looking, or perhaps track racer. The sleeper idea could be rehatched, but I really wanted to put my mark on it, and still do eventually! Its got an SD1 Rover 3.5 in it, with Cossie T5(?) box, LSD axle ( I believe), Cossie brakes, cossie/XR4 suspension, and all the base bits inside(nowt), except plusher 5 door seats! Going back to page 19 in my PB acct, i'll see what I have got: Fibre glass grill and big lights wont be staying in its first incarnation, I don't think. half engine and clearence with standard radiator, new solution figured out Old pic with 'new' Momo wheel, now in the MR2, and old dash, now removed! this came along and ruined 2006 plans LOL ;D ;D an idea potatochopped on fast ford dan's car needs new exhaust, this wakes all the neighbours, sounds like a dragster according to me mum! Losing a second garage has this scene looking busier! --- So a bunch of small jobs to do to get it roadworthy: -tidy minor body scuffs -fit new dash and connect speedo and a rev counter, and any other clocks. -lower front end - loads! -get new rad and custom hoses plumbed in -air filter -exhaust system. -other bits am sure -Waxoyl like my life depends on it! This will hit the roads, but there will be some dosho sorting some of the tasks on that list I want to carry on the same level of workmanship so bear with me! and for what I want to do it'll be even more work/money. I have acquired a few bits for it and done a load of photshops, so updates coming up as it all happens. Peace

Loving it, a lot.
Are those the cossie or the mondy rimz? On another note lack of spoiler and standard steels would abso-freakin-lutely rock!

Loving it, a lot. Are those the cossie or the mondy rimz? Thanks wheels are both. they look and fit great but not sure they are forever! The wheels were the only clue on the sleeper. standard cossie exhaust was planned and it even came with Sierra spacey steering wheel and 4 speed gear knob with wrong reverse location on! LOL top trumps are all estimations BTW, we'll have to wait n see...

Sleeper or no, I think the early base style nose FTW. You never see them about any more.

Awesome!!I would say lose the spoiler and wheels. Those 8x15" wheels that were for sale on here I while back would have been brilliant.

The wheels briuser capri bought would of been great I agree, they certainly look the nuts on his Capri. In the flesh the 16x8's on the back look pretty smart. spot on to get me going, it would look pretty rubbish on the original 13 inch skinny steels IMO. Staying with stock grille for incarnation 1, need to anyway as rad will be too big for big lights...

i like 3 doors without a rear spoiler, i have heard a story from a mate who list his whale tail on a track day on his cossie at high speed on a straight, and he said the thing felt like it lifted the back wheels of the floor and scared the c**p out of him, he reckons at 130mph plus they generate lift at the back.
i dunno how true or exagerated that it, but i'm bearing it in mnd for when mines built and i will be testing its high speed stability VERY gingerly. :S

A definite brown trouser moment! But, if you accelerated up to 130 with no spoiler at all, I don't think it would be much of a problem.

Hey brilliant! My first opportunity to have a 'proper' look at this beast So many options in terms of what direction to go with the syling- the colour is superb IMO, I like the early (origional) grille and lights but then the cossie set-up looks mighty fine too!

Jeez, anyone would think these were common, looking through readers' rides lately! ;D Great car, and it's in my favourite mk1 Sierra colour! Bodywork looks fantastic, minimum fettling required. No doubt it'll be a Waxoyl-fest before it hits the streets! Wheels are tricky..... (obviously I've been thinking about this a lot recently!....) It's hard to find aftermarket rims which DON'T look a bit Halfords-esque, (unless you spend a damn fortune ;D), but (IMHO) most other Ford wheels are a bit narrow or look like they came off a Mondeo ('cos they usually did). Wide black 15" steelies would be ideal, best get the order in to Slater Rimz Inc. I quite like those Mondy wheels though.... If you want an extra pair of hands for a days graft on it let me know. Yeah I'll second that, once I've re-sat my final exam in december I'm happy to "blast" up the M6 and lend my expert tea-making skillz and slightly limited spanner-wielding abilities!

Ford South Africa actually did an XR8 with a 5 litre V8! There was one for sale over here earlier in the year. Reading a review in an old custom car mag from the 80¡'s its amazing how different this was from the Cossie. Some really impressive XR4 based 'XR8¡' projects being built that MWF kindly pointed out, shames mine so I wont point yous there! Spoiler tech: Now I really have hummed and ahhed about a Cossie look type of affair. Full on cossie rep is boring and costly, half assed mix and match is a bit barry/council estate chic IMO, so care has to be taken! ;D Please don't quote but somewhere (here? Mag? I dunno!) I read that there were quite a number of whale tail wing/spoiler prototypes were made till they got it right so it actually works keeping stability and holding things down at the back at high speeds, and the RS500 one was tweaked a bit more! Probably a little OTT for my application so I'll ignore em on ebay auctions Mine is a rubberoid one from RGA, quite good for getting out there first time, but theres a custom Ford spoiler being built... With a bit of rake a spoiler-less sierra looks quite refreshing. Re-an that is a really nice machine. If you want an extra pair of hands for a days graft on it let me know. Thanks Mr Bo11ox, how generous yes extra hands always come in helpful, you are welcome anytime if you are due to Yorkshire or Mancunia. Looks like a great project As a suggestion for the wheels how abut the early Sierra Cosworth 3 door wheels I think they would like great along with a bit of lowering and rear spoiler removal Cheers, I'm not mad on the Cossie wheels, they look so much better on an escort or perhaps a Cortina, however with use of spacers and removal of centre caps they could work. Hmmm... JonnySierra, cheers mate, I wonder how rare these are now. you are spot on, wheelage is tricky, mondy rims look a bit curse word most of the time imo, some have got away with it though. Fronts stick out more than rears. Aftermarkets look chav sometimes. No doubt some price wheels; splits, racer inspired could look good too, which is probs where it will go. The more I look at the paint the more I appreciate it. Believe it or not my early photoshops were of a bit of a 'mad max' style affair with big bumpers, big round lights, bulges, wrapped in gloss black paint! Although I still like these designs, the finished article, will have a friendlier look to it! Really feeling revved up about this project again now thanks gang New photoshops coming up!

Blimey doesn't piggin time fly! Had a bit of a fix up mission happening round these parts, so the poor sierra has not seen so much love. A need for the garage, got me shifting it about and thinking about a neighbour friendly exhaust. Theres a copper on the drive who does not like making friends so better quieten the fugger just incase. I think this is the before video, after killing two of the next door dudes antique battery chargers! Thers no alternator so having some charge is important for making it back to the garage recent charge with my old charger killed the mains fuse eventually, it was going off the meter, then resetting, and at other times hanging halfway charging happily! Battery must be goosed. So second weld practice, I had a go, and produced this lovely power-flowing masterpiece based on a sawn off pinto zaust. and quieter, not very happy with it, not staying, it IS temporary and should chill the neighbours during moves Hoping to get that dash back in with extra clocks maybe, plus this new wheel I just purchayassed off the Lewis, hand not included making some sales shortly so I *may* do RR show in this unless I get retro car overload and collapse in a corner!

Getting there! Glad you got the wheel ;D You should get an exhaust cutout, that way you get the best of both worlds - noise when it's open, sensible when cruising or in built up areas Looks great though!
