Hi guys, i'm new to this board but been playing with old cars for 25 years, picked up a super bargain (£300!!) minty clean 3 door 1600 Sierra a month or so ago, it runs and drives but has had its interior stripped out. I am collecting up parts to make it into something a little more special, originally i was gonna go for the 3 door cossie look, but have decided against it now, i am gonna keep it more or less standard on the out side bar a bit of lowering and some nicer wheels, i am thinking about wider steels for it but am undecided yet. i have the running gear from a 24 valve 2.9 V6 granada cosworth that is going into it (including the brakes and suspension etc etc) and hva e aproper V6 Mt75 gearbox to convert it to manual. i have the proper servo to run discs all round as the standard one will have to much peadle travel if used without the drums on the back, it was quite hard to find one as most of em came with ABS with all round discs. need to sort out an injection fuel tank and a few odds and sods and i'll be ready to put her together. she's never been welded, or dented apart from one teeny mark on the passenger door is straight as a die. look at these lovely mint arches!! the only damage on the whole car! anyway, hope to be posting more soon. chhers guys.

That's absolutely lovely!!
I vote for wider plain black steels with chunky road legal slicks, some WILD camber, super low suspension and a side exit exhaust coming out from in front of the rear wheel!

Hi Mate, how ya doing?! Only this week JonnySierra posted up pics of his new love and now this! I had heard of it though. Looks very smart. The first one I ever saw in Hmmm... approx 1986 was red like yours. Great that this one isn't going to be a replica too, its crazy though its the first thought that goes through ya head when ya get one, and it lingers, cos Cossies are nice cars, but Its nice to do summat differen and a replica never seems right unless its an actual Cossie - which indeed yours will be really! Looking forward to this, and welcome. Have you still got the other project(s)?

Great car! 3-door Sierras are obviously like busses - two arriving in Readers' Rides in a week! Looks good, I guess rear arches must last better on these than on 5-doors.... Can't wait to see how it progresses!

Have you still got the other project(s)? had to have a clear out of projects due to a change of circumstance unfortunately, i still have a few things left simmering though. on the look out for a cheap old merc 200 estate to drop my 500SL V8 into (theres one on ebay I'm watching) still have parts and plans dotted about all over the place for when the right cars come along at the right prices!! I guess rear arches must last better on these than on 5-doors.... all the 3 doors were built in germany, all the german ones seem to last better than the dagenham ones.

yeah saw that, too much money for me though, what i really need is a minty clean one with a blown up engine, and knackered wheels and tyres, as amongst my large and very random collection of parts i have a 5 litre ohc V8 out of a 500sl and a set of 17" MIM's with new tyres on in merc stud pattern. lol

Those Merc V8s are lovely too. Drove a 1973 Merc 350SE recently and loved it. So comfy yet very quick and sounds like a muted muscle car. It did occur to me that if a 350 is that nippy, the 6.9 must be truly mental!

my 5 litre makes 240bhp standard, but huuuuuge amounts of torque, they are so understressed you can bung on a couple of turbos and run em at 10-15psi with no internal mods and make over over 350bhp. great engines, all alloy so light (for a big V8) and will do 200000 miles if serviced regular, mine only cost £60 as well.

thinking about turbos on the merc engine got me thinking and i had a word with a few guys who are in the know on a couple of other forums, I think i'm gonna turbo my 24 valve before it all goes together, it will delay the project a bit, but you can run a single turbo set up at about 7psi and make around 300 bhp with no internal mods and it looks like it may be possible for around a grand with a small amount of luck.
as for black steels, the spare wheels that come in the ford puma are 15" (cant go any smaller over granny cossie brakes) and have more offset than most (all?) of the other ford steels in that diameter, i used to use em on cortina's etc, you can still buy em new from Fords for around £50 each.
