Well I bid and I won. Its a 1986 Phase 1 renault 9 turbo. Has had 5 owners and has 114k on the clock. I have a few old mot's and tax discs but thats about it when it comes to history. My friend brought the car home on Friday night (in the dark) and then I was at work all day Saturday so I didn't see it in the light till this morning. Well what can I say I love it but it does need work. I have had the engine turning today just to make sure it does. Tomorrow I will be making a trip to my local motor factors to buy an oil filter and some other bits and bobs. I have gone all over the car with a screwdriver and prodded and poked. I have found some rust: Front wing: This isn't the only bit on the passenger front. I'm not to bothered about this as its a bolt off part N/S Sill: Again this has been thoroughly prodded and is solid just a bit of surface rust which will be rubbed back treated and sealed N/s Rear arch: Bit of rust on the base but again it hasn't penertrated and can be treated N/S Inner wing: A hole here but i'm confident that this can be patched pretty easily. The roof!!! There is a hole in the roof!! Dunno if its been a bee sting or something but there's a hole which has been fibreglassed from underneath. Don't quite know what to do with that. N/S Bumper support: This is quite badly rotted out and needs to be replaced and most probably re-manufactured. O/S Inner wing: Again a hole in same place as the other side O/S Innerwing/ intercooler suppot This is quite badly rotten and needs to be plated and a new cage for the intercooler (wonder if I could just mount the intercooler somwhere else ;D ) Quick shot of the engine: Oh yeah and of course I had to modify it a bit so I put on Some phase 2 Rear lights. This is half way through when I'm deciding if I like it or not. What do people think?? (phase 2 on left) I'm quite worried about the rotten areas (especially the roof) I may need to enlist someones/somepeoples help when it comes to that time, but at the moment I just wanna get it running and stopping. Car came with a boot full of spares and four solid (if a little dented) doors a solid bootlid and a solid bonnet(which will be for sale) So there ya go!

Brilliant work quwertiye!!! I love it when folk buy something just cos they like the look of it, and then put themselves through loads of grief to get it sorted out and on the road.
That is gonna be a super-cool car when you get it rollin', especially after being stuck with a fuggin spaxo.
I say stick with teh older lights on the back.

Don't think it ex police. Ex taki is probably more like it, or somebody has had a cb radio in it. And for the intercooler I was thinking properly front mounted.

Cor, you don't see many 9s at all these days, let alone Turbos!
Phase 2 lights. Easy!
My Dad had a 1.2 Broadway when I was a child. Major excitement as it was his first car with a five speed gearbox!

Nice one Qwerty, I've been waiting to see some pics since you started talking (typing) about it. I can't remember when I last saw one. I love the front grille treatment. Nice ride height aswell out of the box.

Funny looking Minor It doesn't look like any of the rust is terminal so hope you get it sorted soon. At this stage I wouldn't worry too much about any of it that isn't an MOT worry and get it on the road. I saw a later one in white yesterday too. My vote is for the earlier orange-tastic lights.

Not seen a R 9 Turbo before, is it the same engine as in the R5?
I think the roof single rust hole was proberly something dropped on it 10 years ago and just left.
Has these got the black leather as the r21turbo? I was looking around one of them in a local breakers last week thinking man this must be as rare as a metro turbo which i am mainly into from the 80's!

Inner arch a bit foopared and chassis leg needs patching I also discovered that the carb probably needs replacing to say the least!! Sooooo... anyone good with a MIG welder or know where I can get a cheap decent one.

Harsh - but if your serious about it anything is possible!
i hope the rest of the insides of your engine are in better nick! i would take the rocker cover off and give it a good once over, looks like its lived somwhere very humid or somthing!
are repair panels available?
I have a r5turbo carb for sale....
i would start taking off trim and having a realy good look at that rot, and if you cant weld find somone who can to teach you, or contact your local college about a course - its a skill that will come in very very handy!

looks like the reality of owning random retro tat has hit home, but don't wallow in self pity, it is fixable. carb shouldnt be hard to find, and I wouldnt have thought they'd be expensive. as for the rot, its a 20 year old french car, only to be expected. this is a good oppertunity to give it what for, and boost your skill/ confidence levels. like you say, get yourself a welder, then practice on some other stuff, when your confident enough start on the car. can you enlist the help of some mates? a bit of company while your tinkering, I find, always helps. oh, and make sure they can make a nice cup o'tea. 22 hours left on this carb clicky
