I've had this car 14 years - it wasn't retro when I bought it!! Full resto with loads of new panels in 1993 and still looks as good as the day it was done....it has been in a garage for 3 years tho due to a young family member coming along.

Lovely Mk1, very nice. I'm really feeling these now as they get rarer. Shame about the "Barry" plates though..... I've got a gear knob with flowers in so maybe my style opinions don't count for much ;D ;D

Thats beautiful!. The only thing I would probably change would be the reg plates. But it looks absolutely fabulous. Sooo clean!
How do you manage to keep it so clean??

Did you intend to keep it this long when you got it or has it just happened? Just wondering as I got into old cars accidentally just by never getting rid of 1st car (Capri) and it eventually became retro.

Cracking looking car. I had a red one with grey stripes / interior check when I was 19. My 1st car and I was chuffed to bits. I knew nowt about cars until an exhaust valve burnt out once and my old man made me fix it with him so i knew what went on in an engine.
Within a year I had a XR2 MK1 engine & box in it with a Piper 285 cam, full lighten and balance, Vulcan st2 head and a bigger Weber carb. It was rolling roaded at 90bhp @ wheels and went like hell.
You've got me all nostalgic now - I'm going to dig out my photos. Might even try and scan them and load them up. Excuse me while I check on ebay for the availability of cheap supersports needing work.

Well, there aren't many left now....maybe a 100 or so according to the Supersport Register.
As for finding a cheap one that needs work...you will be lucky - even wrecks seem to be fetching a good few hundred ppounds now.
I originally bought it as a 2nd car for the girlfriend as I had we had a Mk2 XR2..took it to a show and was amazed at the reaction it got. Ended up doing a full resto on it with lots of new panels and a complete respray. This was done in 1994 and the pic above was taken last year so you can tell it was a quality job ( I was in the trade at the time - did the paint myself)
It's been off the road for about 3 years due to family commitments but I hope to get it back on the road next year...it's not right to keep it locked away!
