Bascially I was given my Cousins Mk2 8v KJet Golf as she was emmigrating to Australia. I had my first Mk2 when I was 15, which ended up looking like this (Back in 2001) This was back when the BritLook started to take off, and once everyone else started doing it I wanted to go back to small bumpers etc, but never got a chance too as I sold it due to my then Girlfriend pestering me about my "curse word" car. This new project was designed to be my Daily runner to save my Rallye (See other thread) When I got the Car Alfa Front Seats Shagged 8v I had the thought that if I stripped the car, there would be less weight, so it would be quicker and also use less petrol as there was less mass to be moved, so the work began The car was very much bodged, I found wralplugs honding in panels bizzare bumper clips, suicidal seat frames, the rear bench wasnt even bolted in and strange wireing such as Out came the dashboard too For a car that had sat for the best part of a year and is older than most of my girlfriends have been, rust wasnt that bad I swapped my big bumpers for some Small CL ones Decided on a Motorsport White Interior This however changed as you will see in a bit… Bought some different wheels for a more motorsport feel And a Hella Trailblazer for that more Retro Look My TrackSport Dash Decided to get serious about stripping the car, sound-deadning gone next was the Bitument A Grille Is born Descreet Badges TrailBlazer and Wheels Decided the Enginebay and Interir should be MattBlack New Engine Straight Thru Homebrewd System The Swap Bought some 15” G60 Steelies… Their too big and too common now so after some 7 or 8x13s Bonnet Standoff (From my days growing up helping my bro work on his Beetle’s with their Decklid Standoffs… Very simple test brackets atm Grille Finished Cars with the Blue spare donor 16v used for some needed parts 280mm Calipers for use with 16v Servo/MasterCylinder Now probably wont be used as going for 13s A spending guide at that present point Fairly recent picture to Old comparison Old GL style Arch Spatts rather than complete arches Inside Delocked Handles Matt Black Intake for Next Phase of Engine Smoothed Bootlid That’s about it at the moment, its tryin to be done on a proper budget, got some modest bhp increase planned while still keeping it cheap… the 20vT Mk2 boys need to get tuneing or be prepared to have their arses handed to them on a plate

I have forward facing vents to help push air thru the engine bay
Also removing the internal bay scuttle to aid in airflow. Got a Turbo setup going on soon and want as much cooling as possible
Plus it looks cool IMO. I'm buildng the car to how I want it to be, not how the rest of the dub scene percieves things

Absolutely brilliant!!!! Great to see someone doing their own thing with a golf instead of following the 'recipe book'. That dash is bizarre! Have you got any clocks in there yet?

Clocks? Why on earth would I want those According to the MOT bloke at work, there is no requirement for them, only the warning lights for indicators/hazzards, foglights and mainbeam, I am looking into this tho and I thought you needed a speedo, but then its only for your own use to stick to the limits Worst comes to the worst Ill fit the clocks from my old Ninja And the dash was a bargin, they usually go for about £200 new, found that one forsale and the bloke wanted £50 as he didnt quite know what it was... Offered to have it for £40 including postage, took about 4 weeks but finally got it

What a refreshing change! Nice to see something different being done with a Mk2, looks like a great project and with a turbo setup it will be rather rapid I'm sure! Don't suppose you have any centre caps for those G60 steels you want to get rid of do you?

Well I'm sure I'll be corrected but I thought you didn't need a speedo but did need an odometer to record mileage covered. Could of course be wrong.
Nice motor by the way! I like the bonnett standoff, adds a bit of motorsport look and a "my engine lump is so huge it barely fits" look.

Fan tastic... always love something that bit different round here... and that is great work.
You could go all flash with your dash and sort out a head up display arrangement,.. that way you could keep the dask super smooth.
Keep us posted on this... its top notch.

What a refreshing change! Nice to see something different being done with a Mk2, looks like a great project and with a turbo setup it will be rather rapid I'm sure! Don't suppose you have any centre caps for those G60 steels you want to get rid of do you? Thanks mate, its always something I wanted to have a go at properly. Nothing winds me up more (apart from the dubscene atm) than people with “Stripped” cars, and they still have carpets and subs etc… Oh and usually Ripspeed seatbelt pads And Ill see what I can do, I work for VW so you never know what I can sort Well I'm sure I'll be corrected but I thought you didn't need a speedo but did need an odometer to record mileage covered. Could of course be wrong. Nice motor by the way! I like the bonnett standoff, adds a bit of motorsport look and a "my engine lump is so huge it barely fits" look. Well heres the funny thing…you don’t need a working speedometer cable to pass an MOT… and if that’s not working your not clocking up miles… It’s a catch 22 sorta thing, Ill prob chuck em in for the MOT And as I say, the standoff is just a little nod to my Aircooled roots. Thing is that same mods cropping up on some cars round here now after they saw mine on the drive… ah well A very very interesting golf. Keep up the good work. Cheers Right...If you raise the trailing edge of your bonnet, air will flow IN that gap, not out. *n Right, heres my very simple take on physics in the world of grathies, excuse the curse word picture Without a standoff, air will just pass thru the grille and over the bonnet With a standoff, the air is more likely to rebound off the screen and into the bay, as you’ve said. This is still with air escaping due to hot air rising. With forward facing vents and a standoff, the air will be pushed thru the bonnet and meet the hot air at the top of the bay, pushing it out of the standoff. May or may not work, either way it’s a bit of R and D Fan tastic... always love something that bit different round here... and that is great work. You could go all flash with your dash and sort out a head up display arrangement,.. that way you could keep the dask super smooth. Keep us posted on this... its top notch. Cheers for the support, Ive got a flocking kit for the Dash ala Rally cars which will tidy it up a bit. Id love a heads up display, but I really am intent on keeping this on a budget so that’s a no no unless anything comes up cheap [ Right...If you raise the trailing edge of your bonnet, air will flow IN that gap, not out. *n yeh only really when the vehicle is stationary, and thatd be cool air. so its a good thing. love the car really makes a change from the monotomony of the vw scene Again thanks, its nice to step away from the “Rat” look and “Euro” look. TBH outta any of the dubs around and the moment it’s the lariy bodykitted ones I prefer, simply because they aren’t following anyone else. I grew up workin on bugs, been involved in a 66 cal’looker and a 68 Targa’d bug (my older bro’s) and its funny how people are transferring bits from the aircooled scene to Golfs… and it doesn’t work!

lol No, thats a long story about that Basically I'm more of a biker than a car lover, and I really miss my Ninja. As a little nod towards it I wanted some green elements. Originally it was to have green strips on the bumper and interal bits. However, thats too in yer face for me now, so all thats stayin is the slampannel and calipers Gonna keep it Atlas Grey. Too many cars have "Retro" brown or primer paintjobs now, the original colour suits it well I think

Right, heres my very simple take on physics in the world of grathies, excuse the curse word picture Without a standoff, air will just pass thru the grille and over the bonnet With a standoff, the air is more likely to rebound off the screen and into the bay, as you’ve said. With forward facing vents and a standoff, the air will be pushed thru the bonnet and meet the hot air at the top of the bay, pushing it out of the standoff. May or may not work, either way it’s a bit of R and D Firstly - I do like what you're doing! ( ) It's certainly a breath of fresh air in a scene that is getting rather too secular of late. The way to think of in terms of aerodynamics is with regards to flow and pressure. Air will always move from a high pressure area to a low pressure area (extrapolated, airplane wings work by creating an area of low pressure above the wing, 'sucking' the wing upwards and creating left). The base of the windscreen is a high-pressure area. Cowl induction works by sucking air in from this area: What I would do in your instance is to put the bonnet back as it was and ditch the 'scoops' on the bonnet. They will only add drag and increase under-bonnet pressure along with under-bonnet lift. Replace them with a few rearwards-pointing louvres. This will allow air to escape to the low-pressure area on the front/middle of the bonnet, reduce under-bonnet lift, keep drag low and look UBER COOL! Actually...I quite like the idea of going all-out on the aerodynamics front on a Golf... *n

Cheers mate The vents and standoff are here to stay, Ive seen a few Mk2s with them run 11second 1/4s without lift... and they cooled nicely from speaking to the owners. Physics are the baisis but reality often says otherwise. And Louvres? Thats a bit too 1998 MaxPower featured Dimma 306 for me Thanks for the input tho
