don't wanna be rude but hows this retro, ive recently bought a 1996 fiesta to run into the ground daily, but its hardly retro, maybe I'm getting grumpy in my old age. give it another 20 years to mature (although knowing fiats all that will remain is a pile of dust) and then post it up. I can see your point Ryan, but somehow I think these little buzz boxes are a bit retro, personally I'd like to see some retro-style modifications before it's truly earnt the title though. It's not about age, it's about attitude.

As is oft-repeated on here: Retro is an attitude not an age. A Cinq Sporting, low and on nicely-dished 13" split rims would certainly be Retro in my book. *n

Top grammar tips! Bought = purchased. Brought = relocated Lose = misplace/opposite of win. Loose = your mum

Its not retro (tis 10 yr old though maybe ) but Will is a retro-er at heart if you get my drift. Seeing the atmosphere of pretty much a show of like minds like at CaRS amazed the hell out of me, a bunch of guys so chilled out and open minded. Its an attitude, even if Wills cars not old yet, I'm sure He'll do great things with it or rid it one way or another to buy a retro as his second car. Thers a base model cinq outside my window now giving me ideas! the Cinqs will fast mature i recon due to Fiat build/reputation, and quirky smallness and boxyness. If I bought a 1996 fiesta, I'd only show it her if I intended to do summat different with it. I don't think i'd get too many bottles thrown... would I?!

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

Ryan, I'm the first to say its not Retro in age, but its my first car and I'm very proud of it Retro is a way of life not just a matter of age. One day it'll probably be replaced with someone older and for now i'm just going to see what potential I can squeeze out of my little box on wheels. Hotwire, thanks, but I really don't deserve Hero status

It may not be retro in age, but believe me its Fiat technology is as old as the hills! - and all the better for it!! ;D

I reckon these have a retro style to them even stock, there's something about them. They generate a bit of a cheeky image so unlike a lot of bland small cars. I love seeing them parked about when I go to Greece, usually with a cheesy fold out windscreen sun shade and really dusty paintwork. The way they're treated as disposable means they seem to be disappearing fast here! They just seem to make the most of what they've got, a fun small car with a bit of character, bet they feel a lot faster than they are too. Not like say a povo-Corsa/Fiesta where it's like here's your car, yes it's gonna be a dull and breathless trip, lump it! I wonder how much weight could be saved by stripping the interior out?

I'm guessing not much lol, not alot in there anyway tbh. It does feel faster than it is and any faster than 75-80mph feels too fast lol.

I have a Cinq Sporting too as my daily...(I didnt choose for it to be ) and I will agree, at heart there is a bit of retro too it... full of rattles and squeeks, a trip out feels like an event, bombing along at 30 which feels like 50, they are also dirt cheap now, and pretty good spec, although I cant get comfortable in mine, the teddy pedal sits at too much of a funky angle..

The 1.2 16v isn't an easy swap - not only do you need to fudge the ECU, but the 16v is fairly significantly taller than the 8v variants, which means either bonnet bulges or custom engine mounts - which pose another problem as, if you've lowered the car, the sump is too close to the ground for comfort.
A 1.2 8v will drop straight in, I *think* you can run it on either the Punto or original Cinq. ECU, too. With a cam, decent exhaust and induction system, the 8v lump will produce almost as much power as the 16v, but it's also a bit lighter and more flexible at low revs.
In my opinion, the 16v swap isn't worth the hassle - If you're doing that amount of work, you may as well fudge a Punto GT Turbo lump into it.

Unfortuantly the Cinq is a bit poorly at the moment, but having thought about my options I just don't have the heart to scrap it so luckily I'm moving to a house in a couple of weeks which includes a garage so it is now my first project. Gonna start stripping it down and properly assess the damage when its in its new home.
