Blame Ricorocco for this, but after trying to get a Mk1 Golf pickup to help with the DIY trips I noticed his gorgeous slammed 'rocco on this forum, remembered how I always loved them, had a looksy on ebay at how much they went for and bought this: Only found it on ebay with a few hours to go so no chance of a look, stuck in a £70 bid and got it for £67.02! Picked it up at weekend, seems very sound so far, if it stops raining I'll loook under it and check it over. Needs shocks and rear bearings, maybe a tune up. I've seem the p-slot go for nearly that much on their own (need two more centres mind), was thinking of changing alloys but might just see if I can find a cheap place in Milton Keynes to get them polished. Note nice non-matching lights- An engine so powerful it made the camera shake- A surprisingly minty interior, just needs new guides on drivers seat -

Excellent! - even if you spent a couple of hundred quid sorting out all the niggly bits you mention - you'd still have a bargain motor - and a great fun one at that These are the sort of cars that you initially treat with abit of disregard and generally don't care for much due to the low cost - but after time you start to get attached to it as you realise that it does everything every other modern car on the road i.e gets you from A to B but you've spent next nothing for it - the only begrudging factor is that the cost of running the car, insurance, tax, petrol etc far outweighs the purchase cost

what a great buy! what was the mileage (not that it matters for £70!) is that the RP engine(start of engine number) in the GTX? ie.. same as in my Passat? looks similar if not exact (different fueling) a car for £70. i assuem it had no tax?? well done fella. if you fancy a challenge try and sell it for £700 in 6 months time

True, 6 months tax is 96(ish), insurance weren't bad at 210 TPFT, was going to be 300 odd, thought I'd see how much to stick wife on and lowered it to 210. Hoping I can get it sorted enough for July MOT and only have spent 500 all in.
Plan is to buy a lot of stuff off ebay as I sell a fair bit on there so it's all out my payapal account, and doesn't seem like real money!
Got a Mk1 Golf GTI sporty back box I might try and fit but don't want to go too chav with it, fine line between tweaking a retro and becoming a Barry.

i've got a spare P-slot centrecap somewhere, you'll still need another but i'm sure three's better than two.

Why are these cars so bloody cheap,i had an electric blue GTX ,slight dent in the front wing and it cost me £50.these have got to be the most underated v-dubs out there.then again i also had a white colour coded scala (carb version) and that WAS pants. ;D

Guz, would be interested in the centre, how much?
Suffolkpaul, car has 106k on it, and big wadge of MOTs (nearly every one) seem to support it. Engine pulls like a train after about 3500rpm, but is a little hesitant and lumpy low down, not helped by exhaust rattling away. Will be doing a service when I get a chance and seeing if engine mounts need doing.
I dunno why these go for so little, if you could find a Mk2 Golf GTI 8 valve in the same condition you'd be talking 10 times that much, and they cost less to begin with! Hell you'd be lucky to get any dub for the money you get one of these for, even the Mk2 Polo Breadvans go for more. Hoping they suddenly hit classic status whilst I own it :-)

Great buy - and you beat my Scirocco price wise - I paid £102 for mine back in Jan 2005, but then mine did have 8 months Tax, 10 months MOT and didn't need any work.......

Under £70 surely makes this a legendary purchase, you could get that back just selling the interior! (i'm not implying thats what you should do) Leave the centre caps off the P-Slots, i think they look better that way. Great buy.

It's a cracking looking car, I take full responsibility for you buying it!! You should try polishing the wheels yourself, it's pretty simple to do and will save yourself a fortune!! I'm doing a set just now, I'll stick some pic's up when I'm done.

Well now I've got some spares I might have a go at the polishing, let me know how you get on. And ta to all for the comments, have a set of shorter springs, new rear lights, clear indys and a new headlight on their way shortly all to fit. So far I've given it a damn good wash, t-cut and polish, and binned the fog lights. Looks good for feck all cash I reckon!

Fantastic bargain!!! Yeah have a go at polishing up the wheels yourself like Rocoroco says, its really not that hard. Quite a rewarding job actually Polished rims on your black motor will look A1.

Well thought I'd do a quick update: Fitted new seat runner guides, defogged and a matching pair of lights on the rear. Thanks to a kind chappy on the Scirocco register I got the missing centre caps, a grille badge and replaced the cracked headlight. Today I fitted lowered springs (40mm), new shocks, new front discs and pads and bump stops. Also tried to tighten the exhuast that was blowing on the joint, sheared off the bolt and had to get a new bracket. Grr. Good point - found bearings weren't knackerd on rear after all. Bad point - found it was the wheel rubbing on a loose brake line that made the grinding noise - caught before it wore much though. So far all in the car now stands me at £356 which isn't too bad for one in this knick that handles so well now. Hoping the rear springs will settle a bit.
