Here are a few pics of my car,its just had some light restoration and a new respray. All credit to Retrocar for doing the work on it. The car has been owned by me for 14 years and I thought it was about time it got restored to its original condition. It isn`t really my daily drive as for the last 9 years its been summer use only, infact i`m just about to take it off the road until next summer. BTW there is another one ebay at the mo it needs some work but it would be a nice car once its sorted,i`m tempted to bid myself but I think one project is enough. If anybody has any questions on Sunbeams not just Lotus ones feel free to ask.

Yep that`s the one he is a sunbeam specialist and a member of the owners club,i let him do the work as I had seen alot of his restorations before. This car wasn`t too bad but as ever when you start taking the paint off you always find more than you think. He was gonna have the car for two weeks but ended up having it for a month.

Welcome Sunloti72! sounds like decent motor. Good for you for getting to restore it, usually on a road car it gets left till its too late.
|
|
it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

The car was in quite good condition when i bought it back in 1991,it had`nt been messed about with and the bodywork was original with a few rust scabs here and there. It only had 46000mls on the clock and had a lot of history reciepts ect.
The milage now stands at 63000 and it seems like the engine should last for a fair bit longer with regular oil changes cam belt changes ect.
The worst thing you can do with these cars is thrash em when their cold cause your just asking for trouble.
Not that it gets any thrashing these days as i`m am a bit more careful than i used to be in it!

Where abouts are Retrocar based? I only know they are in S-O-T somewhere, but I don't know where? I have a feeling they may be in Longton, is this correct?

The wheels on it are original lotus alloys, later ti`s also used these alloy wheels. This is a picture that was taken around 6 years ago,to be honest it has`nt changed that much.

JonnySierra, the colour scheme is an acquired taste, some people prefer the normal ones with the stripes but i prefer the Avon colours myself.
When i had it restored i did`nt even consider changing it to the standard colours,i did see an identical car at Retrocar that was being converted back to standard colours.
I think it defeats the object of owning such a car,if you want a standard one then buy a standard one but its obviously the owners prerogative to do what he likes with his motor.

Cool Ride! Didnt even know that there are Lotus Engines in Talbots... Could you provide some technical Info about the Machine?

Cheers jagrip, these cars are the road versions of Talbots 1981 WRC winning cars and were produced between 1979 & 1981.
The specifications for series 2 cars - 155 bhp and 150 lbs torque. Performance - 0 to 60 6.6secs & a top speed of approx 125 mph. Series 1 car specs are slightly different but the performance is the same. This particular car is a end of production special which was converted by Avon Ladbrookes, these cars were numbered corresponding to either the registration or the VIN the number of the vehicle, this is sign written each side by the wing mirrors.
Avon`s are standard Sunbeam Lotus`s with a different interior trim, sunroof and a special paint job, some cars were not sold until late 1983 therefore there a few cars which were registered as A reg`s. Their is believed to be one or two B reg cars around. Avon apparently converted only 56 of a planned 150.
My car has a couple of modifications such as a quick rack, bilstein suspension and a LSD.
I will post a better picture of the interior now that all the trims have been refitted.
