You're becoming quite the collector Phil !!
-80mm, 7"s and low offset will look unbelievably cool, but might be a bit close

Hi Phil - Mk1 looks nice and tidy, good colour too. Is it an 895cc powerhouse then?

Very nice, great colour, are tuning parts readily available? Most of the suspension and engine mounting is the same as mk2/3 polos.... quite handy!

Looks lovely, such a neat shape. Seems a shame to b*gg*r it about after its survived so long unmolested, but there you are. Agreed. I was going to modify my Mk1 Polo when I got it, lower suspension, different wheels etc but after using it for a while you appreciate how right it was to start with. Yes, it looks a bit high (comfy over speedhumps though) and has narrow tyres so not a great 'stance' but it drives so well I haven't messed with it. Standard is the new modified. Mine's been standard for 25 yrs and will stay that way

'R' plate, that's an old one isn't it? Agreed on the colour, it's great.
Odd how the short the nose looks on the early ones, as if it was going to be a bit longer and more sculptural, then they couldn't make their minds up and simply chopped it off flat.
(Hate the long front overhang on modern cars)
BTW philJ, was that "Drive Carefully" sign put there especially for you?!

Its an early one, it would indeed be rude to screw with it.... mine on the other hand, is a later (no goddam chrome!) model, hence, its gonna get attacked soon

Thanks for the nice comments everyone. Don’t think its one of the bus barn ones, although I wouldn’t mind having a look at what they got for sale if you have a link? The cleaned.de one is very nice, although I don’t like minilites, wouldn’t mind the Audi 50 grill. Will be close! But you can pick up -80/60 with adjustable rears on german ebay for £125 delivered. ;D Got the wheels and the 175 50s, just need them refurbed. I'm using the car as daily drive for the mo, but I'll be getting the dark green mk1 with a mk3 GT lump soon, so that will be my runabout, so the blue one doesn’t have to be practical. The colour is rude, I think its florida blue. Yeah it’s an 895cc. Tuning parts are available, as most mk1/2/3 are interchangeable. If you want a hole in your slam panel a G40 engine will go in there. But I think eventually, when my G40 is sorted, and I have the MK1 GT sorted, I'll drop a 1272 coupe s lump on a gt block head and gearbox in. Would be nippy enough. Yeah R plate is a '77. ;D I understand what you mean about leaving it standard, it is a lovely car to drive and everything is just so right atm. Your right on the suspension etc, the car actually feels alot tighter than a few MK3 Gt's I've had (but they were ropey examples) I think 80mm and 13x7s will emphasise its shape and give it a damn nice stance. The wheels on it at the mo are obscenely skinny. After the lowering and wheels, the rest will stay standard, just going to make the thing absolutely mint, but have 2 other cars to sort out right now! Its not like the lowering and wheels can be put back to standard if need be. The drive carefully sign is a bit ironic isn’t it? NickB, whets your point? and what has that got to do with my car? I've given my view about the barryboys site, how come every post I make has to drag that up at some point. That thread happened a year and a half ago. The things they are talking about happened 2 years ago. That red car is nothing to do with me. The green one was my first car. Let’s just say I've grown up a little bit, and we all learn from our mistakes. But I don’t see why I have to justify myself everytime I post on here, because some of you arseholes insist on bringing up history. How would you like it if everyone kept reminding you of your mistakes everywhere you go? At least I don’t try to run or hide from any of them. Maybe I should have signed up as a different silly username that has no meaning?

yea, you shouldnt have bought that up nick, seems a little harsh. and to be honest I'm pretty fond of euro style polos mk4s (altho his wasnt to euro, but nor was it too barry.) any way, not polo, I'm gettin pretty keen on the mk1. might have to get one next... what does a solid one cost?

BTW philJ, was that "Drive Carefully" sign put there especially for you?! Sorry PhilJ, this was entirely coincidental - had no idea about you on any other sites and didn't mean to go digging up past history I'm just here for the cars! Edit: Did they ever sell the Audi 50 in the UK?

There's a yellow / brown Audi 50 somewhere on the roads in Berkshire / Hampshire....(a little vague I know....)
Last time I saw it must have been last Christmas in the Cinema Car Park in Basingstoke......

Nice Polo, I love that colour! - looks like its wearing its 28 years better than me ;D To be honest I find this type of car a bit boring if they are left standard (no offence intended) I just see the potential in how much cooler it would look sitting nearer the earth on wider wheels. 105e Anglias are they same I wouldn't dream of owning a standard one - but they take on a whole different appeal just by lowering them and adding some Lotus steelies Audi 50s as far as I know weren't brought to the UK - though it wouldn't take much to swap the Audi grill & badges onto a RHD Polo - there was one such red Polo at GTi Inters two years ago. Don't know if the 50 reached South Africa - this would explain a genuine RHD Audi?
