New member here showing off my small collection of old Japanese metal. I will be familiar to a few of you out there however – hi to Richard plus Darren, Reece and anyone else from the DOC lurking here. For the moment I’m not quite sure how to post images and I’m too disinterested in computers to bother messing around with my own webspace, so for now you’ll just have to take a look here to see a picture. www.datsunworld.com/discus/messages/4/1649.html?1126556810#POST4820Working from R-L…… 1973 180B estate (610) Bought last year from its original owner with 27k miles. Now 32k, just about to have new wings fitted plus minor work for the next MoT. Has 14” Skyline alloys with 185/70’s to fill the arches, otherwise stock. Early model without wraparound indicators. 1977 100A FII 2-door (F10) Bought recently from a local DOC member, just out of MoT. Is in the garage at this moment seeing what it’ll need to pass – if not too much then it will be a handy winter runaround, or I’ve got a friend who is surprisingly keen so it may get sold on quite quickly. Stripe not of my doing….. 1979 240K GT (C210) Bought earlier this year having sat for last six years in a barn in Essex. Only 43k miles with one owner. Seems quite solid, better than my other 240K, so this may become the donor for a reshell, or may even end up on the road in its own right? Missing car here is my other 1979 240K, basically identical to the yellow one but a much nicer metallic maroon colour. Owned it for more than seven years now and have done 40k miles in that time including two trips to Norway. Currently my only roadworthy car, though it is now starting to get a bit tired bodywise. Fitted with Japanese/Australian-spec front lights and Japanese round rear lights. Hopefully, shortly to be seen in Classic & Sportscar in a feature vs. Alfetta GTV6, Lancia Gamma and Vauxhall Royale coupes. 1986 Laurel 2.4 SGL (C32) May seem modern compared to the others, but it’s old-fashioned underneath with RWD, solid rear axle and final incarnation of the long-lived L24 engine (fuel injected here, same as the 240K). In Japan they could have nice RB-series straight six units, and elsewhere in Europe they got a version with the VG-series V6 (similar to 300C and 300ZX models, lovely engine). This one has done a few miles and is nothing special, though it is fairly tidy. Trouble is it has no exhaust (sounds nice….) and that’s not something you can pick up at ATS – Powerflow system will probably be cheaper than genuine Nissan. They’re rather slow and uneconomical, so I’m not rushing to get this one back on the road unless circumstances dictate. I’ve had over 30 Datsun/Nissan cars to date, about half of which have been on the road and the rest were for breaking or have been passed on as projects to others. I suffer from a surplus of optimism and ideas over time, money and mechanical skills so I tend to struggle with anything that needs more than the usual running repairs and servicing (but that doesn’t stop me buying more of them). Any questions about these cars? Please ask!

Though I say so myself, the 610 estate is pretty tough looking, very muscular coke-bottle lines much enhanced by the larger alloys. These pictures are shortly after I bought it, sorry to point you in direction of another forum again. www.datsunworld.com/discus/messages/4/1191.html?1092830781

Update on these cars and response to your replies...
180B estate failed MoT on brakes and welding. It's currently booked in with Nick at Freestyle Bodyworks in Beccles (ace car builder and old car enthusiast, I'm sure some of you must know him or his work) for new wings when the sills can also be sorted, and the brakes shouldn't be any great hassle, so hopefully that'll be sorted next month.
100A failed MoT on rust, brakes, exhaust and CO reading. Probably wouldn't be that much if you can do your own welding, but too much bother for me right now so that may get sold or broken. Anyone interested? See thread in cars for sale section.
Nothing at all on yellow 240K, that's more of a long-term thing. The maroon 240K continues to be a wonderful everyday driver.
Laurel failed MoT on very little, so that'll be sorted and used ASAP. Even though it'll be a bit juicy, and not the ideal winter car for Norfolk country lanes, it would be handy to have some back-up family wheels and it's not so smart I'll feel bad about using it through winter. Final plus is that it will be easy to fit my stereo and CD changer into it, which has been homeless for too long.
300C's are great! I've had three, an estate and two saloons. They surprise people with their speed, though handling and steering not brilliant. Last of my saloons has just been exported to Norway. This Laurel will be nowhere near as quick, but with its rack the steering should better.
Of course I agree about the 240K looking good. Some odd angles and lines to it, but certainly distinctive. The way it drives is just perfect for my tastes.

The stripe was not done by me! It was entered by the previous owner in a fancy dress parade/carnival thing, and won it too.

Update on the Laurel - now in daily use having passed its MoT. Didn't need too much doing, and it's very solid underneath - needed just one small patch welding. Due to me being a mechanical numpty and having to pay garage labour rates it'll probably work out more expensive that just going out and buying one already MoTed, but that goes against my ethos of keeping these old crocks going (summed up by Derbydan's quote below).
Generally a nice drive, just getting used to the auto's shift points. Worse thing is seat has slightly collapsed one side and wheel isn't on straight, so it feels like I'm about to capsize. Hopefully even I can remedy these.
I doubt it will be getting lowered or anything, but I'm going to have to swap some better wheels onto it with some offset - it looks horribly overbodied and knock-kneed at present. Got lots of older Datsun alloys or even a set of slot mag's. On the subject of which, can anyone tell me where to get new wheelnuts that would suit these?

Took a few snaps at the weekend after I cleaned the cars up a bit... It'll be getting the older Skyline alloys fitted very soon, which I think have a bit more offset so will fill the arches better. Ayone else got any bright ideas how to improve its appearance a bit? Must be cheap/free! Bin most of the badges to confuse people, and perhaps satin black up to top of rubbing strip to get rid of the lower blue (done by hand with gloss paint by previous owner), and tint the rear indicators and reverse lights so all you see is the red strip? Did think about black window surrounds inside the chrome strip, but might make the glasshouse look even taller. Shame this isn't the Japanese hardtop model, they're fantastic and have a great roofline. Excessive lowering not an option! Bodged exhaust already very low, besides which I think the car would end up looking like a hat from the side on. Cars with tall windows don't look good too low IMO. Here's the recently bought C210 Skyline. Would look really quite tidy with decent wheels and a new front bumper. There's a set of slot-mags in the boot which will get trial fitted soon, and I have a spare fairly straight bumper, then I really ought to try and get it on the road. Regular sympathetic use has got to be better for it than just sitting there, right? Finally some details shots of the maroon C210. It's a UK-spec car, but as said before I've fitted JDM rear lights and non-European headlight mounts/surrounds. The latter basically make the lights sit back from the bonnet edge by about 2", transforming the front end and getting rid of that 'bulbous eyes' look standard Euro models have. Bonnet on this car is in a bad way - twisted and filled from old accident damage, and now getting rusty. I have an excellent replacement, but its green - maybe time for a bit of satin black again? Edit: When fitting the headlight surrounds they come with these great little monitors that stick up on the wing tops, where normally a rubber blank sits. As for the other cars, the 610 is of course now sold to ScrapingScrap (can't wait to see his work on it) and the little 100A is hiding out the back awaiting either a new owner, breaking or a guardian angel to come and fix it for me.

if the laurel was mine, i'd get it repainted in a light metalic colour like that, a bit of lowering, some bigger wheels, maybe even those minilitte type wheels like they use alot in Japan, and then, go cruise....matt black...hmm, not sure how it would suit this car..

I'm not going for some sort of rat-look on this! I was just thinking the bottom third or so a satin black/gunmetal colour to get rid of the gloss blue.

Black lower flanks could work well. Esp. if coupled with black detailed wheels.... like this ex-nightmaresracing car: Which also featured some nifty pinstriping - all cheap & all effective

Spot on NickB, thanks! Knew I'd seen that picture before buried away somewhere. Rather unimaginatively, I could end up with something virtually identical. It shows that the black in a straight line looks much cleaner.
Good use of the word 'flanks' BTW, sadly not one I use too often.
My Skyline wheels would suit the polished rim and detailing thing quite well, perhaps I might even get my set properly refurbed. Anyone know of somebody good in East Anglia?

As ever, a fine selection of cars Nigel. Thanks Darren, but thoroughly unintentional. Only one I actively sought was the maroon C210, everything else was just an orphaned car that I couldn't resist, or something that was available when I happened to be in the position to get something new. This applies to virtually all of the 30+ Datsuns I've had to date, long may it continue. There must be other RR members who are just the same. So far this year I have bought four cars, none cost more than £50! OK, so it cost a little bit to get the C32 roadworthy but don't all cars? A car for a few hundred quid is never going to be 100% and there's always the risk of something needing to be done, so why not start from virtually zero? I used to spend far more as a naive youngster until I saw the retro light (probably a dim tungsten bulb inside a cracked lens). This time next year, who knows which of them I'll still have and what new will have turned up? You haven't got a bad collection of cars yourself. Thinking of KE10s and car collections, did you see who bought the 120A on eBay?!

I saw that, and considered it quite seriously. I think the money would be better spent on fixing mine, rather than another resto job. I have nearly everything for it bar the whole rear valance, but I'm sure a talented body restorer could sort it out.
I emailed the vendour to let me know its eventual status - I even asked for its chassis number but they never got back to me. I think its the post 73 version as far as I could tell (unused rear lamps in boot), but I might be wrong. I think Irocco had his eye on it though....
