Hi as of 4 days ago i am the new owner of the ratty looking chevette hatch thats posted somewhere on this site... this is now my project car and its gonna be going thru a whole new makeover of the non rat...scruffy trampy kind...its gonna look mean...clean.. and they're wont be a single tacky sticker in sight damaging my babys body or windows.......ive taken off the roofrack already...the stickers are long gone so already it looks much better. i will be posting new pics along the way of fixing it up... I'm going to be getting the paint off any day soon and attaching the new wings...so for evryone who loved the ex owner; robs style of how he did it...read and weep it aint gonna look anything like that once I'm finished with it..... ill post new pics up as soon as i can...at the moment it looks the same as it did minus the rack...spot lamp and dodgy stickers on the back.. in the mean time if anyone has any ideas for it let me know.. ;D

Welcome to the forum! ;D I was a big fan of the car before, if it was me i would keep it that way but its not my car, or Robs now, so i look forward to seeing your project! I reckon it will look sweet all bufty and clean, keeping the low stance....... maybe euro look? (that seems to be my answer to everything lately) Look forward to the pics of your progress ;D

hi again. thanks for the welcoming reply street ;D its not all bad news...the low stance will be kept of course..thats what grabbed my attention in the first place wen i first saw it. altho it is a curse word going over speed bumps now I'm used to flying over them in my non lowered 1.1 pug 106 so thats gonna take time getting used to having to take them slow. the roof rack was kinda funky i suppose but its gotta go it was all rusty & I'm doin my own thing...another thing i forgot to mention were the holographic stickers on top..ive left them on for the mo but theyll be gone once i start proper work on her. I'm think of keeping it retro style but giving it a nice clean fresh appeal to it.. i want to install some old style wire wheels to it.. not sure about the colour yet ...maybe chrome i honestly don't know I'm open to ideas anyhow just keep me posted...one thing i am decided on tho is the body colour, i shall do that in a high gloss black. i want to install the old standard wings mirrors again and also the rear bumper (maybe).. and does anyone know what i could do with the front lights they're standard and look pretty poo, and i want to change them.... also does anybody have any useful links... for parts...or spares and interior styling? or anything to do with the chevette hatch.

Welcome. Good to see the new owner is an RR'er...I was also a fan of the look of the old Chevette, but it certainly doesn't bother me you changing the look of the car, nor should it anyone else, it is your car now..and it is not like you are cutting it up to make a kit car or something...
keep us updated.

Indeed, its sad to see a good car go but who wants to drive a car someone else has designed and built?! Thats what put me off buying it myself relly, cant take the credit for someone elses hard work.

hello, thanks again for the welcoming replys .. but fear not... i promise you it will look better than what it does now...but hey its staying the same great shape and it will still be as low as ever which are the reasons in which i bought it and i think you'll agree they're the best features...glad you see where I'm coming from tho.. little else to say apart from slater rounded it off nicely...'who wants to drive a car someone else has designed and bulit'.

for evryone who loved the ex owner; robs style of how he did it...read and weep it aint gonna look anything like that once I'm finished with it..... Yeah whatever! Why didnt you just buy a stock chevette then if you don't like any of the mods?? You can do what you like with it of course, but you'll have your work cut out if you're gonna improve its coolness rating!

Welcome to the board. Glad to hear you've got your own ideas for the Chevette...it was really cool with the retro-rat look, but that was a quick job to give it a certain 'look' which Rob achieved brilliantly. Quick and easy-to-do cars like that are potential eye-openers and show-stealers...it's about ideas and timing for a project like that. What you're talking about is a higher quality car, one which is less of a fashion victim and quite rightly so - the car deserves it. It takes both types to move forward, a scene full of rat-lookers would be just as boring as a scene full of concours classics. Let's face it, it caught your eye...and many others.
Do your own thing, but do respect it's previous guise, it had it's time and IT ROCKED!

It'll be sad to see it go - Definitely one of the coolest cars we've had on the site. It was getting more attention at RCS than the Ferrari it was parked next to. That said, can I have the roof rack? *n

tehe, i ned a roofrack - that reminds me might put an add on the wanter/forsale section. yea I'm thinking retro racer style would go down a treat, get some old skool bucket seats, harnesses, a cage, a nice old big tacho, some deep dish wheels with the euro look, and maybe some grp3 arches to hide them. then what about shoving in a nice vaux red top engine to make it shift and maybe sum number spots. (#76 sounds good 2 me) keep the bonnet black, but paint the rest dark red... Lets hear it guys... what would you do with this car? tehe. nick
