Are you not going ahead with the 4A-GE transplant, or is it still on the cards?

More updates!

Progress has been slowed right down as I am waiting on engine bearings. (If any of the Starlet/KP owners can recommend a supplier I would be very grateful!!)

I polished up the crank which took out the slight markings without the need for a re-grind;






I have the radiator back with an uprated core and a new 12" Electric fan;





I then modified the manifold to fit the KP30 (It was a KP61 manifold) and to suit the uprighted engine. This has now given me clearance for the steering arms. It just needs the welds cleaning up a little and painting;

Engine and gearbox mounts are all done now.

My coil-over kit has been ordered and I'm starting work on the rear suspension tomorrow.

Just a thought;

Will it be OK to run the carbs (Dellorto 40's) at this angle?

Rob you couldn't be so kind to tell me the part number of that clutch as mine looks like it might need one soon.

The clutch is part number 618 0183 60

GAZ Dampers for the back (originally for the front of a Mini)



And a big silly dildo gear knob full of dried flowers!

Not updated for a bit, as Ive been busy building! so this is a big'un! Sorry again for the poor pick, still no good camera.

I decided to get the suspension finished while i was waiting for my engine bearings so;

I built the front coilovers;

Bye bye spring pans;




Because the conversion kit was for an Escort the ID of the threaded tube was 52mm. The KP Struts are 45mm OD so I had to shim the threaded tubes. I did this by turning down some pipe until it was a push fit into the threaded tubes, then just welded them up as normal;



I cleaned and checked the inserts and then built the whole lot up again with fresh oil;







Next was the rear suspension.
I Made up some adapters to change the top mount for the rear dampers from two threaded studs to a single through damper bolt. This let me fit the Mini front GAZ dampers;

Next was the new exhaust pipe, 10ft of 2" pipe and some flanges later;







Under axle again;


Its a bit bigger than the old one



No back box yet as I'm still deciding what to go for - Bike can or single up-swept pipe coming up about 8"

Finally my bearings came so it was engine time.

The next job is to modify an oil pick up pipe now the engine is going to be uprighted. The 5K pick up pipe is cast ally so no joy there;



I robbed the one out of my spare 2K which was brazed together mild steel so a bit more workable;



Then began fabrication, my Dad Brazed on a new pipe and cut it to length;



Just need to make a suitable strainer now put it together and bolt on the sump and she it ready to go ;D

to that end i painted the gear box up;



and repainted the engine bay;




Hopefully it will be together in another couple of weeks!!1 1! 1

I can't wait to be driving it again, windows down and sun blazing!

I'd nearly forgotten about the lengendary and speedy skills of the racer-boy!
