Mine is a HAN6 948cc on drum brakes.
The only alterations to standard are:
Ribcase gearbox Radial tyres Electronic ignition. Locking fuel cap
I have toyed with the idea of fitting an anti roll bar on the front but to be honest its always been ok as it is.

Hope that you get your Sprite back in action...They certainly do end up as keepers! It's currently out of sight & out of mind, but I also need to build up the necessary skills to sort it properly. As a 948, it is not fast, but it feels it. Not a motorway car, but such fun on country roads  Btw, love those early Cosmics on your Frog - out of interest, how wide are they? When I sort my Sprite, I do want to get the Mamba wheels back on & get it so that the rear ones aren't scrubbing on the arches (13x5.5J, 155/80R13). Might need to have a think about the tyre size, and possibly add a panhard rod to keep the axle under control. I don't want to hack the arches though!! Mine is a HAN6 948cc on drum brakes. Nice to see one that hasn't been fitted with a 1275! Whilst mine has been upgraded to front discs, that's a modification which I am not undoing. However it is otherwise pretty much original spec as it still has the smoothcase box, and no ARB. Aside from potentially a panhard rod if required for the Mamba wheels can be refitted without scrubbing the arches, I am making sure it all looks as it should (especially as it has various things which were distinct to the first few of months of production), so those sill covers will go, and I have the correct petrol cap & steering wheel now. Early, unmucked about with Sprite HAN6s seem quite scarce now, which is a pity. However I will have some welding to do before it is back on the road, and whilst I can happily MIG weld 2 mm or 3mm steel (which I often have to do, and also teach pupils to do, at work as I'm a D&T teacher), I am not yet good enough with the thinner metal yet for car bodywork to do a decent job, so still some practising to be done!
Oh, and I think that's now four of us on here who have sidescreen Spridgets! |

I would definatly keep the discs as you are doing, the drum brake can be quite hairy at times. Especially on long steep hills, i've had a few times where they start to fade badly as you are half way down a 1/5 gradient!
When welding car body work i've always found the trick is to weld a series of continuous tack welds rather than a long seam. You just pulse on/off/on/off as the steel isn't thick enough to keep welding continuously, you will either burn through, distort it or both. Whenever I weld anything thick up i'm always amazed at how easy it is to just be able to run a continuous seam (and how much better my welding looks!).

My Cosmic Mk1 wheels are 13" x 4 1/2" and I have 155 profile tyres on. The front wheels do have a thin spacer (about 8mm) and longer wheel studs. Despite this they still rubbed on the ARB fitting that I had early on. The back wheels do not rub. Of course it also depends on the inset/offset of the wheels, spacers can be used and I have also had hubs machined to change the other way.

I've been putting this off this for much too long, as it is something that I really don't want to do. However the time has come that I have now decided to sell my Sprite.
The likelyhood of me ever having the time to get it back on the road is just becoming less and less for a number of reasons, so it will be appearing in the for sale section shortly...
