Save it! You know it makes sense.... After all, me and TopTaff spent more than 900 quid getting our '71 164 up to scratch mechanically - the body was pretty scruffy mind.
And yes, red steels on any Volvo also make sense. I should know!

The Amazon is staying, and will be sorted out - it's booked in at the bodyshop (of a top Amazon specialist) for 19th April. Cheers again for all the support Meanwhile, in photoshop..... A good thwack with the lowering stick (to both the roof and the suspension), and some much wider rims (the centres are in the original positions). Oh, and straightened the front bumper too ;D ;D Not that I'd ever want to do this to my current car as it's of far too much sentimental value!

The Amazon is off for surgery this evening. In the meantime, this is what happens when you don't fix the (compulsory for an Amazon?) leaking windscreen: & That big hole is directly above one of the outriggers..... Here's the gory details of the front inner wings. First up, the offside: & Now the nearside: & Finally, the sill: I'll be out of action for a while as well (sadly the NHS won't operate on the Amazon too), but I'll let you know how it goes!

5x112 slotmags hereDan occasionally posts on here, and I'm happy to vouch for him as a thoroughly good bloke. If you can wait, I can pick them up next time I'm back home and drop them off next time I go anywhere near Lahndan...

5x112 slotmags hereDan occasionally posts on here, and I'm happy to vouch for him as a thoroughly good bloke. Many thanks for posting that :-), but unfortunately these are 14" which is a bit too small (Amazon wheels are 15" as standard) & really I don't want to lower the gearing. Even for only £100, I'm not sure I can afford it at the moment, as I'm also expecting to be deeply skint when I get the car back (not expecting any change from £1K) Cheers Rev! To be honest, it's the whole hospital experience that I'm more afraid of, than what's actually wrong with me..... I should be home by Friday, but will be out of action for a while - the docs said that I won't be able / allowed to drive for two weeks, but that also means that I'm off work too! As for the car, I've been putting off this welding for a few years now, but it really needs to be done now. There's nothing else structural that needs doing, but plenty of minor cosmetic bits & pieces. I've seen cars half its age & less than half the mileage with worse rust!

Just back from the hospital - I can't use my left arm much as there are loads of stitches in the left side of my chest & under my arm - just had some of my chest and some lymph nodes removed because of a melanoma (basically skin cancer). Got to wait about two weeks now for the test results to come back, but all should be ok... I'm at home now and my gf is taking care of me That was a very nicely done photoshop! Thanks - I use it a lot at work (but normally starting from scratch) so I've plenty of practice ;D I also have a rear 3/4 view of the Amazonl but it's not quite finished yet.

Bloody hell, that sounds pretty serious! Glad to hear it'll be alright! Plus you get to take it easy till it heals up! I know how you feel a little, I had an accident with a mate's old Suzuki 4x4 a few years back, we were working on it when we somehow managed to set the electrics alight, which set everything else on fire as well, and I managed to burn a large part of the skin and a surprising amount of tissue off of my right leg. (It also ruined a decent pair of jeans! ;D ;D) So I know how that feels, only the most annoying thing in that case was that I couldn't walk for a good couple of weeks at least afterwards, until it healed up a little! Also, when it happened, for some reason my mate decided that rather than wait on an ambulance he'd drive me to the hospital, which was pretty scary because I had the Imp with me, which he had to drive for me of course, and having to teach him how to drive a rear engined car very quickly through crowded streets in that condition is an experience I'd rather not relive! ;D ;D ;D In short, when you blow yourself to pieces when working on a dodgy mate's knackered motor, wait for the ambulance to come! ;D ;D ;D

Thanks guys - much appreciated! I'll be fine - they removed the melanoma itself back in February, and the surgery this week was purely preventative.
Guess who won't be sunbathing again....

UPDATE!!!! ;D Although I got the car back last Thursday (wasn't allowed to drive until then - doctor's orders), I've only just got around to taking some photos of the repaired areas: New inner wing tops: Nearside outer sill - also shows how faded the original paint is...... Outrigger and floor (I'd already put the floor matting and carpet back in, so no pics from inside I'm afraid) In the end, the corners of the bulkhead (where the inner wing repair section joins) and front footwell sides also needed some localised repairs, but despite this, the welder still kept to his original estimate. :-)

Looking good, I bet you are really pleased with it Are you going to "distress" the new paintwork to match the original? ;D

Heres to it holding out for another three decades. My thoughts exactly, as I'm in no hurry to sell this car! Are you going to "distress" the new paintwork to match the original? ;D I'm resisting the temptation.... ;D (eventually, it will all be that colour). I'm very pleased with it, but would have liked to be able to have done the work myself, mainly for the sense of achievement, but also for the money saved. The welder is very good, and has probably welded more Amazons than anyone else in the country, so he knows what he's doing! Cheers guys
