Yup, it's all change at ScrapingScrap HQ. Gutted to get rid of it, but the Renault is for sale due to pending round-the-world trip. What's it got?... 1979 Renault 4 TL 850cc. Genuine 47,000 miles and 0 previous owners on the v5. 6 inch roof chop at front dropping to daft 11.5 inches at the rear. Lowered (lots!). Mechanically excellent but the clutch is slipping (new one included to be fitted by new owner). 4 brand new tyres. Brand new exhaust. Spare rust-free bonnet to be fitted (original is very dented from me jumping over it in the last year or so to get to hi-fi in garage). Also included are 4 brand new wings (very difficult to find now) to be fitted if you can be bothered, although the ones that are on there are fine. What's it need? There is still a fair amount of work to do, but the hard bit is done. Welding. Inside of pillars need finishing and there is a small hole in the floor that will need patching. No more than a weekends work. A-panel (behind front wheel arch) is buckled and needs some work. The roof is pretty much finished and the shape is all there (the difficult bit!), with just a skim of filler needed here and there to smooth before paint (gutters etc.). It needs a new bonnet, but a good rust-free dent-free one is included. The chassis is good and solid. It needs a new clutch fitting (included), but still drives. I guess a new battery will be required by now, as it's been sat around for the last 18 months. It used to sit at 70mph happily all day long and give 50mpg. Of course it's more streamlined now, so will be even better Windows will need to be made all round, however the front screen apature is flat, so it won't be difficult to get a bs-approved screen made/cut-down. All other windows can be quite easily made from perspex. The original front and rear screens broke on removal, but all side glass is there - no use to this car of course, but maybe it can be sold on? I expect the original wiper mechanism could be modified to work on new screen size, but I did have some headlight wiper motors kicking about which may be a better option. If I can find them, they'll be included. I have the original headlining, but it will need modifying, as the roof is now longer. All the bars/attachments are there, so it shouldn't be too much of a chore. Dash and interor need refitting. Rear lights electrics to be re-attached as the loom originally ran along the roof section. Can you insure it? I had it insured on a classic policy for £116 when it was lowered, but otherwise stock. I phoned to ask how much more it would cost after the chop, and they said £16 extra to cover the paperwork. So long as you don't modify the engine, it's cheap as chips! I think thats about it. If I remember anything else, I'll let you know. The original story/photos of it's build-up are still at my old website: www.rustynails.co.uk/Scrapingscrap/stoppress.htmlThe price... Difficult one. It must be worth £400 for the parts alone, so I guess that would be fair. But please don't buy it for the parts - you know it needs to be finished! I am offering it here first (and probably on VZi). If there are no takers, then it goes on eBay next week. p.m. me or call my mobile - oh-seven-eight-oh-two, six, treble-seven, double-one. Car is an Andover, north Hampshire. Cheers guys. Christoff p.s. I also have a very rare 60's bonnet, which I did plan to put on this car. I can't include it in the price above, as it's fairly valuable, but deals can alway be struck

It's sad to see that this is still very much at the project stage too. Mind you, I know from experience (only the once so far) that this is too often the way with projects. Best intentions and good ideas rarely translate to a finished article and stripping down is so much easier than rebuilding!
"Non runner, but may have a go at getting it running" made me laugh. What, after 9 years? Mind you I always find it risible when people list a car with faults then say something like "Will try to get it fixed if the weather is good". Like you'd bother after listing your shed for sale with a fault that has been there for ages...
Cynical? Me? And I know there are exceptions, some people are gems...

It needs a bit more work than when advertised on here
"It needs, at least, new floor front and rear, sills, rear inner arches bulkhead repairs, chassis leg repairs, and probably much more"

rMad just sent me the link on FB. Sigh...
It looks almost exactly the same as when I sold it 9 years ago, just with much added rust. Looks like it's been outside for a few years too.
Can't believe it still exists though.
As said on the other thread, best I send them message and buy the bloody thing back then... Damnit, Lilla is going to kill me!
Bruce, got any space at A52 for a couple of months?

Well it certainly doesnt look like that now. I bought it last week off the guy whos owned it for a couple of years who was going to scrap it after losing his storage. I would say its definately been outside, its rotton everywhere.
And yes i might get try and get it going, but with currently 39 cars and an e bay shop with over 2000 listing to look after, time has to be spent on looking after those, rather than something I saved from being weighed in. Getting some facts before cynical comments may be wiser.

Bruce, got any space at A52 for a couple of months? Funnily enough, I'd been looking into the possibility of buying this as an Area 52 project, we haven't had a good project for a few years and this would be perfect. However, if you're wanting to buy it back, I'll step aside and let you do so. After all, it'd be far greater to see it in your hands. I might be able to find some storage but probably not at Area 52 initially (literally zero room) - but let me see what I can do. I've also messaged Jim about going to have a better look at it, I'll report back to you once I've done so.

Yay! Loving a bit of RR collaboration to rescue a legend (I loved the old scraping scrap site) from the crusher. Looking forward to the (re)build thread
