another excursion into odd car territory! want to know everything i can about them, i know the bodies made from a fiber/plastic combo so at least they don't rot, small 2 stroke or VW polo engines, and they're a communist car i want info, tuning potential, and lots of pics!

The floor pan is galvanised steel, not duraplast. Still rust proof. The VW polo engine is the best bet for tuning obviously. Lots of existing knowledge and parts for that engine. One cool variant is the military version.

Two strokes are for winners, that enough should convince you to buy one. I'm disappointed to have not found a single one that's had an RG500 engine chucked in.

Polo-engined one, turbo'd G40 lump, 200-odd bhp and stock appearance. Win.

You can buy a brand new one in a couple of years, Taken From www.retrotogo.com/2008/01/move-over-fiat.html 'Hot on the heels of the Fiat 500 comes another cult car from the archives - the Trabant - which is set to be re-launched in 2009. The Trabant was the car of the common man in East Germany from the 50s through to unification, a light and durable car with a two-stroke engine and plenty of room for a family of four. Amazingly, it was also eco-friendly before its time, using 'duroplast' for much of the car's structure - a recycled material, made from cotton waste from Russia and phenol resins from the East German dye industry. The new Trabi is being made by a company called IndiKar, based in the east German state of Saxony. According to Ronald Gerschewski, the director of IndiKar: "We want to build a grown-up version of the famous Trabi. It will be simple, inexpensive and, of course, comply with contemporary security and environmental standards." It is said to have the looks of the original Trabant (pictured above), but with a modern, fuel-efficient and environmentally friendly engine and a price tag of just over £7,000 if all goes to plan. We should be able to see the new Trabat 'in the flesh' at the International Auto Show in Frankfurt in 2009, where a prototype will be officially launched.'

I even said that in my FIRST POST!* sorry Sorry Pete, close - but it´s a two cylinder! Here´s a few interesting facts for you........ Two Cylinder - Two stroke - Aircooled Engine type P 60/61 Capacity in ccm 594,5 BHP at rpm 23/4000 max. Torque 5,3 - doesn´t have a fuel pump - it´s gravity fed! - has five valves - one per wheel incl. spare - the engine has none! - no camshaft or belts - no radiator, water pump, pipes, grill etc. the only water on board is to wash the screen and when it rains! - no disc brakes, no servo brakes, no distributor or points - no lock on the passenger door - no coil springs - no comfort - but definately good for a laugh. Sorry about all that, i´ll go and hang up my anorak now..... ;D You´ll find some here... www.autoscout24.deor www.mobile.de...go for it, the misses will love you for it!

gold one has massive arches? well you put me straight anyway, was reading the "how stuff works" site on 2 strokes, appeared to be a single cylinder. reed instead of valves, i got that bit surely it doesnt need a lock? who in their right mind would steal one! what kind of suspnesion do they ride on? as stated before a suzuki rg engine would be fun, and surely if polo engines go in a lot fo other crazy stuff will go in too

You want to look into the mysterious art of tuning 2 strokes, you do Then when it all goes bang at 12000rpm you can consider a more sensible motor
