where's chuni govind based? would like to have a chat with him regarding my mi16 engine..... cool to see a wellington based person. I'm in brooklyn.
pretty common for nz mechanics/anyone to be scared off by peugeot/french/european stuff in general. they're often used to aussie stuff which you can stand in the engine bay of to work on them. makes for cheap cars, though. and pugs don't seem to rust here either which is awesome

Hi Paul where in NZ are the GF parents. Here in Wellington is a bloke called Chuni Govind who is a Peugeot 405 guru. Unfortunately whilst being great cars they are pretty worthless over here so the time and money spent fixing them is often not woth it. They're on South Island, about 2.5 / 3 hours south west of Nelson, so probably a bit too far away! Is he a specialist or just an enthusiast? Wondering if it might still be worth getting my gf's dad to contact him for tech advice ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) I know what you mean about the values, but aside from this minor 'coughing', it's in very good order & they've had this car so long that I think they would much rather fix it than replace it. A bit like me with my Amazon!!!! Thanks all! ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)

here's a pic of mine ![](http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa154/atlanticblue_photos/07052007259-1.jpg) Very nice - i'm a huge fan of the 'Goat' as we've affectionately christened them ;D A good mate had a TurboD one very much like the one above, It was comfortable, nicely built, reliable, had tight handling and being diesel had reasonable low down poke with great economy (especially when we turned the fuel pump down for long journeys ;D) I also think they have fantastically sharp - almost Alfa-esque styling. DD would love a mint TD estate or Mi16 Wasn't there also a euro-only 4wd V6 or turbo?

There was a left hand drive turbo 16v 2.0 called the T16, our local dealer Harrisons at Lowdham had one for sale about 10-12 years ago and wanted £19995 for it. Not sure if there was ever a V6.

I love 405s, have been toying with the idea of a 1.9 TD exec, with all the toys, air con, leather etc , but i also love the look of mi16's ,thats why i got quite excited by this on piston heads: It's a 1.9 Turbo diesel exec that is basically an mi16 lookalike www.pistonheads.com/sales/335067.htmI think with a good wax and polish that'd be a classy daily for yours truly

here's a pic of mine-i don't suppose its that tasty cos its still bog standard but i've had it over six years and its never let me down. build quality is great with no squeaks or rattles but I think the 93 on series 2 cars are better made because I had a j reg 1.9 before and that felt a bit flimsy against this one-it was still a good car though. the 2.0 engine feels smoother than the old 1.9 too-i'd definately recommend them. thinking about finding a diablo red 16v le mans now ![8-)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/cool.png) ![](http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa154/atlanticblue_photos/07052007259-1.jpg) I Had a TD exactly the same as this GTDX?? on a M plate did 50k and never lifted the bonnet sold it 5 years back with 190K and I still it around every so often. Just remembered mine had a rear spoiler though

A guy at work is building a 405 TD with cossie wheels and a coilover conversion! if he ever finishes it then il get him to put up some pics! Seriously pondering this on an estate for my veg oil powered daily... Possibly with the mi16 kit as well, just thinking about the rear bumper... might need a bit of filler to join the two together...

I would say about 700 for it. Thats not because of the bodykit bits on because they don't add any value, Just because its the Exec model. All the Mi16 lookalike bits are plentifull and cheap on e-bay. It does matter what the mileage is. my 406 has done 218000 and still drives lovely, but its always a good bargaining point as there are certain components renowned for wearing out. Also make sure the air con works as if its not working its almost certainly the Compressor on it.

Ask him what he thinks its worth, £5-550 is the figure that springs to mind. I sold an M reg GTX td with a years test for £450 last march if thats any help, and the phone never stopped ringing. Make your offer, the worst you can get is told to F**k off. If I get an offer rejected I say it stands for a week or so if they change their mind.

I really don't get why some garages suck through their teeth when they see stuff like 405s. They're not remotely difficult to work on in my experience (and I'm rubbish at mechanics!) and (in my opinion) no different to working on a Cavalier/Sierra and the like. Ok, stuff like the BX, Xantia and XM can scare people with no knowledge of the hydraulic/LHM system but any garage not willing to work on a 405 isn't worth bothering with ever again imho.

Definately feeling the 405 love & that TD Mi16 lookalike is tasty!!!! I've been thinking about possibly getting a 405 for myself one day but ideally would have to be a diesel estate. This btw is my gf's parent's one, which she & I were using in NZ: ![](http://x-files.serveftp.com/paulharkerdesign/personalgallery/albums/NZ-Cars/IMGP3390_001.sized.jpg) The styling of both saloons & estates have aged very well imho ;D Interesting to read about the quality differences between Mk1 & Mk2, but I really prefer the interior design of the Mk1, as to my eye it is so much more coherent with the exterior styling.

I think anyone needing a non estate car needs to be quick. As Petrol Saloon values are so low they are just being scrapped rather than work carried out for each MOT. I picked up one last year for £50 becuase the owner didnt think it was worth the £50 MOT fee (the car went straight through with no advisories). Even then I got far less for it than I would of done any other similar sized car.
