Hey Folks! Another week, another weekly chat, your place for stuff that may not warrant a full thread or stuff that is just going on right now that you want to share. I've ended up behind myself again, a few things coming in from leftfield has derailed my things to do list which was going along lovely. So this week is getting that back on track. Whilst also trying to edit photos and do a write up of the VERY excellent Essen Motorshow for Performance VW, and to do a different write up/photo share for here with the less VW content. Going to the show was a big mojo boost though, just what I needed as we head in to the quieter bit of the year. I've taken some extra days off work just before Christmas to try and get a solid run in to 2025 and hopefully get all the little bits of this machine turning together smoothly, it all feels so close. Other than that, still throwing money in to the 996 and waiting with baited breath for the next Datsun bill. Also the first set of Christmas decorations went up whilst I was away, sneaky, so it is beginning to look a lot like.......... (it is too early to say the word) Previous Thread: forum.retro-rides.org/thread/228033/chat-thread-after-storm-wc

Try this...I've been going through a MOUNTAIN of editing and reshoots, tweaks and fettling on this "Christmas special" episode I'm going to make on the channel. Early draft is looking good, and I reckon Patreons will see it on the other side of this weekend. Other than that, the motivation sink that is painting a car continues to grind along, hampered in no small part by predictably cold weather last weekend. I had been keeping my eye on a few companies out there for the Black Friday commercial horror show to hopfully bring some deals out, but no dice.

Kever Winterfest in Rosmalen is the first weekend in January. Post new year mini break, and combine it with a trip to The Louwman Collection in Den Haag and Autoworld in Bruxelles?

misteralz adam73bgt some cracking suggestions there. Hows the driving weather over there in January? Feels like we may have a cold hard winter in Northern Europe....

Usually bright and cold. Germany's a bit more complicated than Benelux in that you'll need compliant winter tyres at that time of year, but both Sinsheim and Speyer are only just off the A6 autobahn and Germany doesn't mess about when it comes to clearing snow. You're probably only five hours from Hoek van Holland. NL and Belgium will be fine on the big roads - the worst part would be finding parking in Bruxelles.

Collected a project car on Monday, still need to arrange to go back and collect the rest of the parts. Other than trying to get it mobile so I can push it into a corner of the shed, I'm not doing anything to it until I've got the current one finished. I will keep an eye open for parts that it needs, but until I've collected what's there I don't know what I need. It belonged to a mate of mine, he bought it as a spares donor for another Alpine that he had and it's been sitting in his garage for 10+ years. I'd been talking to him about buying it as a project, something different, then he died and I agreed to buy it from the estate. The rest are parts that he had lying around in another garage, and I'm hoping the list of bits that are missing won't be too long. It's in a bit of a state, worse than I thought, and takes up more room than I hoped. I'm going to have to get creative to be able to keep it in the shed and still get any work done.

Civic is back from welding. Now between jobs but this has given me a bit of a boost with my own cars. Fetched a gearbox from Manchester last minute and drove it to Kent to help the owner of one very broken Civic aerodeck. (Would have offered to pony express stuff for fuel money but this was a 11th hour request) I have changed the logos oil, date on the filter was 2012 so I feel more sorry for the poor thing. Looks and sounds much happier with fresh oil and spark plugs.

Mostly I have been rehabbing, but into what is hopefully the last 2 weeks of my some what prolonged dragged out hospital stay. Managed to do 2.4 miles in 15 minutes on a static bike as well which is positive, as I am hoping cycling will be a route to some freedom when my stamina/core/balance is improved. Have also been hearing about just how ill and serious my condition was, I could barely communicate, or eat for two months, dropped to 8 stone (lived up to my username again!!!) I am grateful I don't remember April or May!! All being well I should be home on the 18th, and the next stage of this long journey begins there. Did find out my works office is being relocated due to raac concrete issues so that is a bummer, basically means working from home although who knows what my work will entail all the while I'm less mobile. They have to find me something to do

I spent saturday doing a cambelt, tensioner, water pump, aux belts (x3!), new rad, new thermostat, and investigating an aircon issue on this for a mate: and I properly enjoyed working on cars again. It's been so long of scrambling around on driveways, or the road, or gravel, every spill is an issue, not having the right tool, the job fighting you, no space to work in the engine bay, on your own and needing the car to work at the end of the day that I'd lost a bit of love. But just giving a mate a hand, in a nice dry workshop whilst it rained outside, no pressure if we didn't finish (we did), was a bloody delight. And acres of room for activities in the engine bay!
