Hey Folks! Another week, another weekly chat, your place for stuff that may not warrant a full thread or stuff that is just going on right now that you want to share. And by storm I mean putting out an update for the theme, one that had far too many things in it because it took so long to actually get live because of all the myriad of other things happening. Anyway that seems to have settled down, still a few tweaks here and there, but there are lots of changes in it, some of them quite subtle, some of them very noticable. Jobs for this week are Club RR members updating, to make sure all those that are supposed to be in the member group are in the member group. Then it is getting ready for a trip to Essen to the motorshow for the first time. Which should be interesting, been on the list for a while. Hope everyone got through the actual storm okay. Guess it is a quieter end of the year, still always nice to know what people are up to, or if they have seen something cool and fancy an easy place to share it... No storm damage here. Note to the dictator that "promote Club RR to non-members" is on your list I am in what we call "close out quarter" at work meaning I will be busy as heck now until NY. I am looking at all the stuff I meant to do in '24 which I did not and won't before the end of year now. I am a bit frustrated by lack of progress. I have done some cool things during the year though so I won't get too tied up on beating myself up for there still being stupid jobs to do on stupid cars... But I do need to focus on making some stuff happen, thats obvious. I bought myself time on the daily driver front by taking custodianship of the '05 RAV4 which will be 20 years old next year but still feels like a new car to me. 32,600 miles from new! Anyway I am obviously not fully satisfied with that as a daily so I may shuffle the deck a little and slide something a bit more me in which is at least a winter friendly daily. I have ideas but my ideas can be a bit stupid. Lets see.

Last week at work so I'm already mentally planning what to do with my bit of time off before I start something new in the new year.
Primary focus should be finishing off my bike and evaluating where the MG is at, I'm fairly certain I want to farm out the welding work on the MG to give me a kick start on it but I've been very wary of welding work I've had done in the past and need it to be a quality job..
Drove through storm Bert yesterday, torrential rain and standing water on the A14 wasn't much fun but could have been worse.
It's just occurred to me that I'll be in Germany while the Essen motor show is on, but we'll be a fair bit further south, not sure my gf will appreciate a couple hundred mile detour 😂

Lots of flooding round here... Hope everyone has stayed safe Car fixing will resume shortly. I've got a Morris Minor needing new suspension bits before I can put it back in the barn.

Storm? What storm? From my room that is my limited world currrently I had 2 days of wind blowing leaves and rain at my window and rattling my door. That's about as much as I experienced Into what is hopefully my last few weeks of a quite unexpected, humongous and life changing hospital stay. Rehab going ok I ache a lot but they took my wheels (Zimmer frame) away and I'm on a stick now, progress apparently, although I preferred the zimmer Still onwards and upwards, home in time for Christmas hopefully and next stage of recovery/living with my new found limitations. Did 1.5km on a static bike today so that's something, might have to get a E bike for mobility until I can drive again. Would be tempted to treat myself to something but I not getting my hopes up yet the road is long.

skinnylew fantastic news on your rehab - well done on the static bike. Midas-wise I am fed up with the wiring issue that I'm not clever enough to fix, so I am likely to put the lights back in then change out the fixed negative camber bottom arms I have for a set of fully adjustable ones that are cluttering up the workbench. I also need to sort the correct CV clips, as they currently have cable ties...Then get on with the other door. Which I REALLY don't want to do!

This week I mostly be suffering from parcel anxiety... bought some components from a private seller(and all the stress that brings anyway) in the US and they've shipped via USPS. Wasn't expecting a quick delivery however it's seemingly enjoying a world tour right now😬

I know the US postal service had a bad reputation at times, but Chicago to England via Japan seems a bit extreme, even for them.

Last night I took a four year old battery out of a car that hasn't run since I moved it from paddock to driveway over a year ago and it was still showing a green "good battery" light. Chucked the charger on it anyway and hopefully it'll start the tractor I just bought.

Starting to see Essen Motor Show stuff turn up on my Hipstergram feed, so starting to get excited about it. Taking a pal who's never been before, and he wants to go in the GTI. Figured I should probably fix the broken passenger door lock, so spent an hour or so on that the other day. It's been broken for over a year, so it feels ridiculously good to have a passenger door that locks and unlocks on the remote again. Need to find the grommet for the emergency lock now. Will probably give it a right good clean tomorrow. I know I'm weird, but it feels disrespectful crossing a border with a dirty car.

Well the USPS anxiety has receded, although it's left me more than a little confused... the parcel(set of V8 main caps) is now in my hallway.... the USPS tracker still showing the item in Tokyo. Given how much hassle it was to find these, and it's still not a given the block they're destined for can be recovered(recommendations for line boring in the north or Midlands appreciated) i really didn't want to find another set.

It's worth sticking on a pallet and sending to these guys. www.ocservice.co.uk/Best I've ever seen for line boring. They've always found a solution to all the janky old curse word we send down to sort.

Bit of progress last week with the 2 wheels and the 4. Got the ball rolling again with the Lambretta project as fed up of seeing it on the bench. Took frame to a shop for a bit of work and a couple of brackets and got some bits copper plated that are holding off the engine build. And for the car I picked up some bandies

A snap frost meant changing wheels today. Two had still held some air from last year. I think this is their final winter, though. Felt fine at 95-100, but a wee 120 blast felt kinda sketchy. On summers, on that particular piece of Autobahn, 130 feels planted. So yeah, in Germany again. Essen Motor Show tomorrow!

I did a "road trip" in a Citroen C1 across Norfolk & Suffolk (from Nottingham) picking up Oldsmobile stuff and other memorabolia. Why is this stuff always out there?

I'd love to say because they are made of different stuff in those counties but the truth is probably that there were and still are multiple USAF bases and the servicemen and woman brought over lots of their cars, and probably local garages serviced and repaired them so had odd stock. Plus they never throw anything out.

There is an element of US Air bases, but there are far far less of those now and the US servicemen will be bringing over Toyotas or whatever, I think that they are no longer given that free shipping thing for their cars. "The Flatlands" from Lincolnshire across to the coast is full of old stuff, not just yankee stuff. One of the things I was collecting was an original apparently unused "Little Chef Early Riser Big Breakfast" serving plate...
