Straight away my British buddies have said that "You colonials talk funny" when I used the word "Chassis" rather than pronouncing it correctly ("shassy") haha..
Anyway- It's been I think 6yrs ago that I started cutting up these old trucks and putting them on modern Dodge Durango frames, using only the ones that came with the 5.7L hemi engines. It's been alot of fun and they're still turning up for me to convert/save. Retro Rides has always been full of cool people and lots of nice things to say. I thought it only fitting that I pop in to share the latest story of Bonnie & Clyde, a bullet riddled old truck that somehow found it's way to me, in Ohio USA.
I build stuff because I love it, and most of the things that find me- would never get built if I hadn't taken the project in. Thanks RR and thanks for watching, should you choose to spend a few minutes with us.
Here's the FIRST one I'd built, so many years ago now..
Here's the link to the story:

What I find super cool is how some of these trucks show up a loooong way from Ohio.
Either in continued ownership or having been flipped for sizeable profits.
Also the evolution of some, that started as brutal, basic builds, but then gain aesthetic development.
I love the fact that you do take these builds on and share to inspire others.
Will wait to see Bonnie and Clyde make an entrance.
Merry Christmas, now get building.

Thanks! The 2wd Durango donor is here, it's in quite a state having been crashed in a front end collision. We're starting to dismantle it tomoorow. Pics as it happens

Really love these threads, (follow on You Tube too,) Looking forward to seeing the bonnie and clyde build progress, as well as the damaged one - I'm assuming it's to be repaired rather than harvested for parts ?? Nigel

What does a small block V8 in serviceable condition cost in the USA? Been having a look on eBay uk and they all seem to make throng money It depends on the year & miles. 5.3 or 5.7 or 6.0 GM engines, A known runner or one from a junkyeard- many variables contribute to cost. Let's say a good running 5.7L from a 1999 Trans Am with sub 100k on it, usually around 2K usd. Cheap junkyard engines that you can roll the dice with? Pfft, 700 usd all in. Good mile 2007 & UP, expect 4k usd. It's pretty much the same market for every maker with specialty engines fetching a premium price.

You make it look so easy, but then practice makes perfect !! Without measuring anything, I can get the cuts within an inch or two just from looking at the floor pans. Knowing where to cut the Durango body into pieces really makes it go much faster. It used to take 3+ days with 2 people, now I can get one down in a day and a half, by myself.
As soon as the complete wheels arrive I'll set the cab permanently.

I decided to string up the harnesses after a full service. 16 spark plugs, replace broken exhaust manifold bolts, replaced the water pump and the fuel pump, belt & pullies. I figured I'd better put a battery in it. You know- see if it starts, right? I also figured I should at least warm up the engine a little bit (since there was no radiator yet, I'd better make that a quick warm up) so I can change the oil. You know- to help it drain out a little...
