I'd second replacing all the shoddy cheap jubilees you can find. The last dodgy pair on my X1/9 I was procrastinating about split while I was in rush hour traffic, car overheated and headgasket blew.
Always get good ones.

Matt,
check the rolling radius of those wheels and tyres, the T2000's (and most classics I know had smaller 16" rims. What you have are Newage ones. Your speedo might under read if they are stock tyres sizes.
My Winters are classic rims, but with higher profile tyres to match my Bugeye

My Winters are classic rims, but with higher profile tyres to match my Bugeye Your winters look like the wheels Mats probably left the factory with. Speedo might not be that far out. Although Mats tyres are 225 and not 215 that wrx newage are fitted with. On my originals (same wheel as mats with 215/45 17’s) the speedo would over read in comparison to garmin sat nav. As soon as I changed to the oz 18’s with 225/40 18 tyres the speedo reads bang on with the garmin. Edit: looks like the silver wheels have 215/45 but the black wheels have 225/45 tyres? If so do not mix any of the tyres you might wind the diff up.

Every post from now until the 24th requires a pic of what you got from your Swizzels advent calendar that morning. Them's the rules.

Maybe want to change the coolant reservoir cap to a 1.5bar one aswell. IIRC 300bhp is around the limit for the standard ones

So today's little update. Managed to get a couple hour this afternoon to pull the manifold and identify the broken bit/bits (plural is never good is it) 🤣 To be honest it's not "that" bad to work on. There's just a lot of standard "stuff" and nothing I've had recently has had it. The lexus had been simplified as far as as possible. No emissions rubbish or breathers back to inlet. Fuel system simplified as far as possible, only ran a crank sensor. The kit car wasn't really any different. This on the other has it all and then some. The plumbing and wiring although original (doesn't look to have been touched for 22 years) is like spaghetti 🤣 In total there's only really 8 bolts hold the inlet on. Hand full of nuts and bolts scattered round. And a load of pipes clips hoses and wires. Anyways. Less waffle more pics. After a bit of tugging pulling and faffing. It's off!! First broken bit identified. Turbo inlet pipe fell apart. So that's ripe for replacement.think I may put a silicone one in while I'm there. Also. The crankcase breather system. In my head I don't want horrible oily crank case breathy vapours back into my inlet pre turbo.. so would normally run a simple catch can set up and be done.. but this has lasted 22 years as is and doesn't seem very oily in it... (Few hoses are perished tho). Replace with a catch can or reinstate as factory, answers on a postcard please. With inlet out the way I could identify my leak. Didn't take long this is the chap Runs from matrix down behind cambelt and into water pump sort of area. Luckily it's available. And you don't have to remove cambelt to swap it.. The pipe that runs side to side doesn't look much better either so I'm replacing that while I'm in there! (Check me out doing preventive maintenance haha 🤣) I'd like to replace the steel pipe from the crossover pipe too. However according to ICP and Subaru dealers its not available seperately. And I'm not paying 175 quid as a just in case for the complete thing... Had a good poke around and didn't find anything else untoward. Odd cracked breather hose but that's about it. So I can live with that. Ordered a some bits from ICP that will be here and waiting when I'm back off "holiday".. got both steel pipes (the front to back and the left to right ones). Genuine inlet manifold gaskets and a genuine oil filter (it's been serviced but don't know what oil is in it so gonna treat it).. Also while it was in the air had a lay underneath it for ten minutes, it doesnt look a bad thing at all, and isn't really that "bad" to work on (engine bay seems positively empty at side of a v8t haha).. I've also ordered fresh gearbox oil. I'm assuming this is the drain (big nut central in the box toward the front).ignore the wetness it's what I've lost in the coolant drama. Also. Injectors. I'm assuming these are "Subaru yellows".. but other than being yellow, what's spec of them. Need to do some digging so I can tell the link everything it needs to know (flow rate and dead time I think). I have had a semi apologetic reply from the eBay seller regarding the exuast and discount has been mentioned. If what has been discussed comes off it will make it a cheap system 🤞 Also managed to get a proper pic of the turbo, it's not original in the sense that it's been off before. But I'm guessing it's just standard. These are the numbers from it. Feels fine tho, no play no damage etc etc. Not sure what to do while it's in this many bits. That's pretty much where I'm up to. Cars up in the air waiting for parts. I'm going to centre parcs of all places next week (and snows forecast aaaaggghhhhh I want to go snow drifting 🤣🤣). And not a lots going to happen.. Like I say I did call int Subaru dealers to see if they could get that pipe seperate. They couldn't. But they did have this parked round back. Check the mot history of it! And how much is that plate worth alone!! Hoefully some more actual progress soon. Need to make a decision on the breather system, and order a turbo inlet pipe (silicone or standard).. plus any other fun stuff I can waste money on when I've had a beer 🤣🤣 Cheers

Standard td04 uses 13t compressor wheel, you can get 15t or 19t replacements. If you are down in the depths, common thing that goes on them is the rocker cover gaskets. Because they are down low and fairly close to the exhaust the heat warps the rubber gaskets. This then causes it to leak, usually on the Dow pipe somewhere and leaving the car smelling of burnt oil. Spark plugs, 60k mile change on these, ngk iridium’s. Cam covers are weeping but not bad. So they're getting left alone for now. Cheers

Sounds like you avoided my head gasket guess by only a few minutes! Having done heads on these, that's a good thing! I'm overly paranoid of heaters blowing cold and temp gauges post lexus. It's probably no bad thing tho. Head gaskets most definitely look like engine out and then some Cheers

The top one as shiny as it looks is out of budget for the minute. Middle looks bearable price wise. But for what gain. And bottom is in budget. But I feel like it's gonna turn into one of those permenantly in bits projects and I need it back together before I do owt else haha. Cheers

Your speedo might under read if they are stock tyres sizes. My Winters are classic rims, but with higher profile tyres to match my Bugeye The wheels on the car currently have 215/45s on. The black wheels had 225/45s on. I know it will make a difference but not sure how much. I'm aware it should have 16s on but with a bigger sidewall. Il compare my GPS speed with these Vs the other tyres when I get them back on. Painting the wheels has suddenly gone down my list of priorities haha Cheers

Don't worry I won't be mixing n matching both sets are matching set of 4 and the 225s are brand new. So they will be going back on once I've sorted its current problem's. Cheers

I don’t know if you are aware of the best way to re fill coolant, as they can be a bit of a b@stard to fill on these without getting an air lock. Best method is from the metal header tank on top of the engine, disconnect the tube coming from the turbo, and slowly fill through that with a funnel, slowly so it doesn’t gulp and burp.
If you are replacing that turbo, give me a shout if you are selling it mine is a little on the noisy side!
