That’s just fantastic! If I had one of those to get out of the lane in winter I could ditch the 4x4. Watching with interest.

Comes with its original single cylinder petrol engine in loads of bits. plus a small diesel engine that might fit??? Will see if It can be rebuilt, otherwise I'll sort out a transplant. Need to read up the manuals & parts book and whatever is on the web for these.

The diesel engine that came with it is a 666cc Lombardini one. The previous owner never got round to working out what was involved in fitting it. Will try to get it going then work out what needs machining/adapting to fit this. Have been sorting through the parts for the original 600cc petrol engine today, most bits are there but odd ones are missing and a chunk out of the bottom of the crank case suggests a disaster in the past.

I like the idea of the bulldozer... Would help with clearing the wild area of the garden (for more car parking..!!) a job I've been meaning to do for years..!!

Other than the bulldozer attachment what would these have been used for?

Other than the bulldozer attachment what would these have been used for? They were...and some probably still are used on small holdings. Depending on whether you had the PTO option ( Power Take Off ) or not, there were many different implements available for them like cultivators, plowing attachments and disc harrows etc. I had one about 10 years ago with the PTO and it had a cultivator mounted on the back. It was a great little thing. You'll often see them at steam fairs these days. There was a company called Whitlock that converted them into mini dumpers by putting the seat up by the steering levers facing backwards and then putting the tipper where you would normally sit.

These things have always intrigued me, there was the rusting remains of one outside "the Horn" cafe on the a90 outside Dundee for years, where we often stopped en route southwards on family holidays and the like when i was a kid.
The engine was missing, so just the tracks levers and frame remained and i couldn't work out how it was supposed to look or what on earth it was until seeing a complete one at a show many years later.

I've always found these intriguing as well, really looking forward to seeing how this come apart/goes back together.

Ransome MG tractors were manufactured in Suffolk, and primarily aimed at market-gardening use. They were also exported, and in particular to France, where they were used to cultivate between the rows of vines. Remember, vinyards were often on steep slopes and it was necessary to control weed growth between the vines. Low ground pressure, being a tracked vehicle. They were also used as tugs on canals, railway yards, some versions used in water treatment plants. Finished production in 1965, as by then outdated. vhgmc.co.uk/forums/ source of information from those who know about MG Crawlers.

Thanks norfolkshire, before I start work on it I need to read up on as much info as I can find. Parts books and maintenance/instructions came with it but am currently sorting through the boxes of bits he'd dismantled.... to see what's there and what might be missing.

Many decades ago I had a student summer job spraying fruit trees. Imagine my delight on being first shown the equipment. A Ransome crawler towing a bowser full of DDT with a manual spray wand and a Villiers powered pump. I lasted the day! We knew nothing then apart from spray downwind which was especially difficult with varying breezes.

Today's job is to make some room in the garage to get the SIMCA that's in there running again making space to work on the Ransomes. Reading about the Austin A30 powered ones set me thinking. Do they use the original centrifugal clutch or a conventional one? Also I've a number of engines from the basic model SIMCA 1000, same dimensions as the A30 but lighter using an alloy head.. a possibility???

Snap, although this is a MG2 with the Sturmey Archer engine. It belongs to my dad and we’re pretty sure it had been painted and used as an ornament outside a farm shop or something as the brakes had been locked up and all the levers put down, I guess so kids didn’t hurt themselves climbing on it. The Lombardini is a fairly well known conversion and dad has seen one or two competing at plough matches. He’s spoken to the owner of the A series one, but I don’t think he converted it and he wouldn’t/ couldn’t give any details on the drive/ clutch set up . We’d like to swap the engine on this as it’s knackered but, like you we’re not sure what to do about the clutch. I think the centrifugal one is the way forward but dad isn’t keen as he says they’re not very refined and a bit snatchy! There was a kit back in the day to convert them to a Ford pre crossflow engine but I’ve struggled to find pictures
