I went on my own to the Gathering in 2019 I think it was, I found as above, on your own you've got the freedom to wander, look at the cars you want to, etc.
There's always the chance you could get chatting to someone while you're there (fair chance someone will want to chat if you're in or near your RX7 ) , but I wouldn't say you lose anything from the experience of just chilling on your own around cool cars
I went to the NSRA Supernats on my own Last weekend. All the usual crew were either busy with work or had family commitments or were skint. It was their 50th Anniversary and I really wanted to go so I decided to just pack up the car and go on my own. It was one of the best weekends I've had in over 30 years of going to car shows. I bumped into people I hadn't spoken to for years, rekindled some old friendships and met new people who they were friends with. By camping for the weekend you also find yourself effortlessly chating to the other campers around you and of course interesting cars are always a conversation starter. Had I gone with my usual group of mates probably none of this would have happened as we would probably have just stayed within our own little group.
I often find going with other people ends up like trying to hurd cats with people going off in all different directions. You then don’t really get to look at what you want to see because you end up being pulled in different directions. Going on your own seems like a good antidote to this 👍
