Shook hands with a friend on this today, very clean, long mot, loads of spares, a car I have known and admired for years. I shall tinker and maybe go as far as a bit of a fettle. I am excited.

I had a black one from new. S539DFC. Put 50k on it in 14 months, handed it back to work, then emigrated.
Was a great car, but very tyre sensitive and the bloody fuse box cover kept falling off.
Watching with interest…..

New baby is home, first jobs, cambelt and decat. 😁 I have not seen an R plate 156 in the flesh before.

Really looking forward to thread updates as I nearly bit the bullet and bought a similar car a few years back. Still fancy one to this day.

Had a bit of time today, boot carpet was heavily soiled so scrubbed that and cleaned up the wheel well, did a bit of interior vacuuming. Thought I would put the eibach lowering springs on, found that the nut wrench is 19mm, nuts are 17mm, all my heavy tools are in the lockup so cancelled that. I did notice a none Alfa screwdriver in the spare wheel thingy, luckily I had one so swapped that. Checked the tape deck works, admired my new knob and smiled at the mileage. Also received an extra rare genuine set of Alfa roof bars, with keys. Insurance we’re happy with my £2500 valuation but suggest we may need to increase it soon. 😎👌😁

Very nice, got a soft spot for a 156. Nearly bit the bullet on a V6 a few years back but opted for a Celica instead for Toyota reliability. Yeah right, that didn't go as planned....

I bought a cheap V6 a few years ago, how it got an mot is beyond me, needed most of the floor and inner/outer sills on both sides, it did drive like an angel on the way back from Scotland.

Watching with interest….. I bought a brand new 156 Selespeed in 2000. I'd forgotten about that bl00dy fuse box cover!!

I had a 1.8 sportwagon a few years back. Loved the wood wheel. Great car and despite the reputation. One of the most reliable cars I've owned. Ignore the factory cambelt interval. Change every 30k. Mine went through tyres but I put that down to spirited driving.

The cambelt and associated gubbins have done 8k… Over 4 years ago. Time to do it I think, especially as with the car I got a bucket (really huge bucket) load of parts, including a waterpump, pulleys and tensioners. Ordered a new gates belt yesterday so that is everything I need. Surprisingly no issues getting everything off, everything is in great condition, I’ll still do the whole job. Not sure if I will run it without the balance belt, I have done that on all my previous twinsparks, gives better response.

Snap! Absolutely love a 156. This one's passed between me and my dad off and on for over a decade. V6 in the same colour as yours been the most reliable thing we've owned, and beautiful to drive. Always fancied RWD-swapping it, which may or may not happen at some point.

I had a V6 156 for a short while too, and really enjoyed driving it. Really nice car. Shame mine suffered a similar issue with the floors, mine were like swiss cheese. Funny story about buying it. The seller offered to put a new WOF (Basically an MOT) on the car for sale, so of course i took him up on that. Shame it took so much work to pass the WOF he ended up basically making no money on the car after the repairs. I probably should've taken that as a warning...

After completing the cambelt change this morning I went for my first drive in my beautiful baby. First Alfa drive for a couple of years. God it's good to be back, forgot how responsive and entertaining a twinnie can be, she is an utter peach. Dark skies and sunshine with a cassette enhanced La Traviata providing a second soundtrack, a large Alfa induced smile stuck on my face, just loved it.
