Me again. Made a nice purchase this week, found this big bumper mk2 golf on eBay. Now I’m not, or I thought I wasn’t a big bumper mk2 golf fan… even tho I’ve had a fair few over the last 20 years. I’ve always been a type 19 small bumper man. But this just screamed buy me.. it’s a 1991 oak green mk2 golf 16v, with a twist. It’s running a tfsi 2.0 turbo with a Garrett turbo and 6 speed box… safe to say, she’s a bit of an animal. Plans…. We’ll not a great deal, an audio upgrade, maybe a wheel change if I can find something better than the RS it sits on.

Oh my, that is almost perfection in my opinion.
In fact put the rear wiper back to standard and it would be !!!

Thank you guys. My plans re polishing is to get it in the workshop for a correction and ceramic, However I’m very very busy at present with customers cars.
The wheels may stay, but I really must get some proper tyres. Can anyone give me some feedback on decent tyres, I want to make this car as driveable as possible… I was gonna go for pilot sports, I’m not afraid to pay for the best, so if anyone can help that’d be great.

Bloody perfect Mk2 combo that. I've used a couple of iterations of the Uniroyal Rainsports and they perform very well. In the dry they are sticky and progressive. In the wet they are epic. The payoff is wear but I'd rather pay for more tyres than a new front end (or worse) with tyres that don't stop and steer in the wet.....and it's always bloody wet AL.

Yes I put uniroyals on my old s type r, nice tyres. I was leaning toward Michelin pilot sports for this.

Never used them myself but they get very good reviews. LinkThe Continental SportContact 7 seems to be their closest competitor. LinkI'm sure either of these will be great tyres. AL.

Michelin Pilot Sport 4S are my go-to tyres, I've found them to be excellent in all conditions for a multitude of very powerful cars.

Thanks again everyone.
A slight oversight on tyres being I can’t get anything decent in 16” in the current size. I’m still in 19” wheel mode… 😂
Currently the car is running 165/45/16 on an 8” wheel… which quite frankly is too narrow for the rim anyway.
So I was thinking of going 195/40 as I want to keep is current stance and not have any fitment issues.. but maybe I’d have a greater chance if a decent tyre at this size.

Well that is just stunning! Normally spot most Oaky's going through eBay, but somehow missed that one. Really interested to see how this one progresses.
Obviously i'm biased, but it is the best colour - and I always hated Oak Green with a passion when I had a string of MK2's in the late 90's/early 00's.

Have a look at camskill for what tyres are available in certain sizes. Looks like you would be limited to PS3 in a 16.
Had PS4 on my Mustang & have PS4S on my Yaris, fantastic tyres.
Car looks great, how is it with the TFSI engine?
