Well that is just stunning! Normally spot most Oaky's going through eBay, but somehow missed that one. Really interested to see how this one progresses. Obviously i'm biased, but it is the best colour - and I always hated Oak Green with a passion when I had a string of MK2's in the late 90's/early 00's. Yeah I had an oaky 10 years ago, I hated it and sold it on…. Was a small bumper early car man from then on in… until this came along. I firmly converted back to big bumpers too.. madness.

Have a look at camskill for what tyres are available in certain sizes. Looks like you would be limited to PS3 in a 16. Had PS4 on my Mustang & have PS4S on my Yaris, fantastic tyres. Car looks great, how is it with the TFSI engine? Doesn’t seem to be a huge range unfortunately. It’s immense with the tfsi, a lot of power but very driveable… has the 6 speed box fitted too, which makes all the difference.

That is pretty much the perfect combination, with the already stated exception of the idiot tyres. The 2,0TFSI is an absolute peach of an engine, and much more characterful than the 1,8T. It feels like a more grown-up ABF, which is an engine that suits a mk2 insanely well. I'd lay that rear wiper properly flat, put some period correct plates on, change those tyres and just drive it everywhere and all the time!

What inlet is that? Looks like a AGU one? Dunno, I’ve not dug into the finer details as yet, look like one tho doesn’t it. I’ve laid the wiper flat… it was doing my head in too. And as much as I like the wheels, I may well look for some magnesium bbs splits for it.. something a little more special.

That's my perfect combination, best colour, big bumper and the stance is bang on. Well bought . These were my exact thoughts too as I scrolled over the photos. I am actually a lover of Tornado Red, but there’s just something a little bit special about Oak Green…. Beautiful car Agreed. What a stunning car. I love tornado red too, but thats my choice for a small bumper car.. Oak Green for big bumper. As said above, I wouldn't change a thing on that... well except put it in my garage!

Maybe one day I’ll own a tornado red big bumper… now that would shock me.

Just got hold of this 76 swallowtail too, only got 55k km’s on it, it’s genuinely like driving a new car.

Swallowtail, refers to the sweeping line at under the rear light clusters, it was only on the very early Mk1 golfs, the same as the metal bumpers.
Must say that does look spotless!

Blimey thats a beauty, I remember those earlier golfs were great to drive but horrific for corrosion, look after it there can't be many left.

So I’m not going mad modifying this as it’s just too original. So I’ve gone for bc extra low coilovers and choice of two sets of wheels which I think will work. The zender turbo 2 will go on as they are, but I’m wondering on a Center colour change on the oz turbo before I build them. Thoughts?
