Any interest in my not-so-little Pug project? Got bored with my Skyline since I'm not going to race it so bought this as a covid-lockdown project that has gotten a little out of hand....
I started in early 2020 with an ex-rally 205 rolling shell with a decent custom cages cage....however the roof was fully teabag spec and had a reg swap, so that went back. I then bought another ex-rally RWD shell with the stupid idea of putting a 1uz V8 in with the spare engine from the Skyline...but it was a bit too battered, so I part-ex'd that for the monster below.
Hopefully my image hosting is working. This is how I found the car at the start of last summer languishing at the back of a garage in Matlock.
And when it arrived at the unit
It was built as a prototype by Tony Palfrey (Maxi Motorsport), rallied for a bit until he built v2.0. It has full custom rose jointed wrc-spec macpherson struts by Satchell Engineering with tarmac spec inserts (bilstein fr, avo rr) and runs a toyota corrolla rear beam. The bodykit is custom one-off and wider than a 'normal' maxi. I think it is 8-10" wider than a normal pug. And it runs 18"x9" team dynamics.
V2.0 (I don't have a decent pic of mine actually rallying)
After a bit of rallying and a minor prang the rolling shell then went through various owners, one of which totally butchered the floors...which we knew needed replacing. After several cups of tea we decided to do it properly. Ground up bare metal resto, nut-n-bolt with a modern engine, fast road brown trouser big smile generator
Stripped
New roof, as the original had a big hole for a vent and looked like several fat lasses had slept on it. Not too hard a job, but took us one very long day. According to a pug expert I know we are the only people he has ever heard of that did the roof and rear quarters in one single transfer piece.
VAG 1.8T 20v BAM 225bhp engine with 5 speed box. Don't care what others say, this was a total bar steward to fit, and it is LOW. I swapped the 6sp 4wd for a 6sp fwd cupra box, which then got swapped for a 5sp golf dervbox. Plenty of space at the back. Very little room at the front due to 205 snub nose.
We went thru 4 intercoolers and 3 rads before getting something we were happy with. Ended up with a Radtec rad from a dolomite and forge twin pass intercooler from a focus rs (i think). Either way not cheap! But put it like this, I had a rad from another reputable uk rad maker with cast end tanks, and that weight more than my current rad + intercooler combined! Angle iron was just there temporarily for alignment
Rest of the spec is bias box, electric throttle, ap brakes front, cossy brakes rear, custom fuel tank, 044 pump, remote PAS, digidash, rally switch panel, buckets, and harnesses out of richard burns rally csr (yes!)
Anyway I have waffled enough for tonight here is what it looked liked last saturday. It's getting a new bonnet btw. Off for paint on friday....let me know id you want more info or pics??
