Hello all. It's dawned on me recently that the Lupo platform is almost 25 years old, being a slightly modernised yet simplified polo Chassis. I've owned my GTI for nearly 5 years now, it's never got the appreciation it deserves in my ownership, so i've recently began sorting out all of it's little issues etc. Here's the only photo i have of when i went to view it and ultimately bought it. Only heard about it from word of mouth as it wasn't listed anywhere. After begging my dad for days to take me to see it, he finally gave in, and upon arrival i had to basically beg him not to buy it instead of me. It had been sat for almost a year under a tree, had been owned by a teacher and her husband for 8 years so hadn't had a abused life in this time, with a folder as thick as a brick full of paperwork. Had mainly cosmetic issues, classic Lupo electric window problems (still does) and a misfire. 6 weeks later, with a full service and some AP coils, it's my daily driver. Borrowed my splits from m other lupo for a bit while i sorted some daily wheels Dailied it with no major issues for 4 years, until i decided to run a deer over last year. Split my radiator, condenser, smashed all the grilles and popped both the tow covers off, lost all the badges and split the bottom half of the bumper, aswell as cracking my screen. To Add insult, i then slid into the curb at the bottom of my street during the awful winter we had this year. So it's spent the last 10 months off the road while i've tried to get parts. Unbelievable how hard it is to get parts for these now! Now MOT'd as of 2 weeks ago, nearly all the little issues and damage fixed. Currently SORN for maybe a week or two more as i need to replace a rear caliper and a CV Boot, but it's great to have it somewhere near fixed! Treating it to some BC coilovers soon, and a really good clean!

The wife bought one of these new back in 2003 (anthracite grey one with leather, VK53 EYY if anyone knows where it is now). Brilliant little car. We sold it at about 3 years old when we decided to pool both our cars into one bigger one. I'd buy it back in a heartbeat now, but I bet it would cost me more (if I could find it) than we sold it for back then.

You were lucky in the deer hit that the bonnet survived, they are unobtanium. I passed up an offer of a blue GTI in 2012 for £2795 with known history. Big regret.
I had a 1.4S some years ago and I loved it, apart from the engine being knackered due to the amazing breather design and long service intervals.
The Lupo really is a German Mini clone, down to the little bins at the sides of the rear seats.

I had a 1.0 that i put a 100bhp 1.4 in, ditched off the awful breather design and serviced it every 5k, was a nice little engine just a bit tappy! It is almost like they just borrowed the original designs in a way hahaha

Two local dealers were visited, the first didn't even let us past the reception desk before getting stopped and quizzed by one of the saleswomen about what we were wanting, only for them to tell us that it didn't exist in the used market and that new was "very expensive, and couldn't be bought in grey anyway". The second dealer was much more helpful. Couldn't offer a test drive because of a complete lack of cars of that model, but the order was soon placed for the anthracite, with heated leather, sunroof and no aircon. If I remember right, it was about £14500 back then, and sold it for about £7500.

No aircon is incredibly rare in a GTI, i think i've only seen one without it!
