Great info, thanks. It's got a mount for one on the chassis, just got to make a clamp for the drag link. I did actually have a couple of leaks after the monsoon the other day. One from the screen seal, so I popped out the expanding strip and fired some tiger seal under the seal. The other was under the 'carpet' I'd put in the back, I found a gap in the corner of the rear door frame, hopefully that was it. Also lost 17mm socket during my shakedown the other day. Checked the wheel nut torques when I was out and the socket must have stayed on the bolt rather than the extension. I was a bit gutted, even though it was a cheap impact socket. I hate losing things. Took the dogs out in the car for a walk today and found it by the side of the road on my way home. Made my week. The brake valve turned up today, so got that fitted, just happens to be in the right place that I can adjust it through the wheel arch, I'll have to make a proper vover for it once it's dialled in

Test drive this morning with the new caster angle, which is either 2 or 3 degrees more than it was, depending on how I've been reading the gauge. Not bad, not a massively noticeable improvement, but it has been a week, I think I'm also getting used to it a bit more. The main factor was that at no point did it feel dodgy or wayward, happy, if loud, cruising along at 60. Only issue I have now is that the steering is a bit too light. On the brake bias valve, I guessed the start point for the adjuster and went to a gravelly track to test it out. Not bad for a first try, fronts were locking first, little tweak in the adjuster and the fronts lock a split second before the rears do, so I'm calling that done. Need to lock the adjuster off now so it can't move.

Jolly nice. Great colour, i think wheels might be a tad blingy compared to the rest.. maybe you are planning on changing or painting those. My Range-Trol i put caster correction bushes in the radius arms when I lifted it. Drives spot on. I actually bought a brand new steering box for mine, which was less than you'd think, around £450 If I recall.

I do agree a bit about the wheels, however, the tyres were brand new and came with the car, the wheels came from the fourtrak breaker and were in much better condition than the ones that came with the Taft, so it was a non cost solution really. Something to look at in the future though. Testing continues. Had a look at steering dampers, the standard britpart ones can be had for around £30 new, but lots of stories of them lasting 3 months. £45 get you a better quality Terrafirma one and £65 includes a 'return to centre' assistance spring First off I fabbed a bracket and fitted the damper by itself
Not a massive difference, but I think it's a bit better Back home and put the spring on
Same route and again, a minimal improvement which may just be phycological, although what was telling was letting go of the wheel on a horrible lumpy bumpy country road at about 55mph and it stayed on course, so I take that as quite a positive. The 'return to centre' function isn't really automatic or noticeable even but it's feel that it helps with the lumps and bumps on the road trying to throw the steering off. Steering is a nice weight at parking speeds, just too light when driving. I don't know what I expected, but you really have to change your driving style with the truck and be a bit more respectful, remembering that it's 70's tech, high up, on leaf springs with massive tyres. Next jobs are to make some plastic inner arches to deflect stones . Eyes being peeled for suitable material, there's always truck wheel arches on the side of roads, hopefully that will work

My 57 Willys Pickup, with the original Ross steering box, requires a whole ‘nother level of concentration to steer/drive.

We used 4mm correx floor protection sheets to make arch liners on the minor works a treat and an 8x4 sheet is around a tenner.

I'm going to enjoy reading all of this. I have an F50 here in Portugal, and yea spares are really hard to find. Ive been after a transfer box for over a year while its stayed there doing nada. Still, hopefully got one on the way now. I'm going to read all of this

I'm going to enjoy reading all of this. I have an F50 here in Portugal, and yea spares are really hard to find. Ive been after a transfer box for over a year while its stayed there doing nada. Still, hopefully got one on the way now. I'm going to read all of this If you still need a transfer, let me know. At my work we have loads of transmissions and transfercases of older Japanese cars, 4x4's and vans.
